There is also a public bathroom that is fairly well maintained. On any given day during the warm months (yeah, we have a few in Wisconsin) there will be various concerts and other musical events. I've been there when locals just get up on the stage and start playing. There is also the occasional craft market, where locals bring in some nice stuff. Not the biggest or wildest park in town; but a nice gathering place for the people of Manitowoc. Jenn's Java and the Get Reel movie house are just across Washington Street.

There is a building with warm weather bathrooms. Not really any quality picnic or barbeque facilities. This property was donated to the City of Manitowoc by William Rheaume on December 6, 1960. Considering there is a pile of gravel in front of the basketball hoop, there is no hoop shooting at this park. The best part is the big open field that's good for having a catch. Not the most impressive park; but it does serve a neighborhood. Right now it's pretty tore up.

A fantastic fishing--and catching--experience!…read more This was our annual fishing trip with my buddy from New Jersey, me from Tennessee, and his dad from Wisconsin. It was our first trip with Salmon Chasers, and we couldn't have been happier. Captain Mike and First Mate Brandon had everything ready when we arrived. We were out on Lake Michigan in no time, and within 15 minutes we landed our first fish--a beautiful 13-pound King Salmon. From there, the action never let up. We spent the next few hours catching fish, reeling nonstop, and having an absolute blast. One of the highlights was when we had three fish hooked on three separate lines at the same time. There's something truly unforgettable about three guys fighting fish off the back of a boat all at once! Just three hours later, we had reached our limit and headed back to the dock with 15 beautiful fish, including several King and Coho salmon. If you're looking for an outstanding charter with a knowledgeable captain, a hardworking first mate, and incredible fishing, I highly recommend Salmon Chasers. We'll definitely be back!

Drive down Karbon and ease right into the parking lot. Carstens Lake is 21 acres. The lake averages 12 feet deep, with a maximum depth of 28 feet. The bottom is described as "muck". Water quality is considered "poor", this is considered a "deep seepage" lake with no inlet or outlet. Only small electric motors are allowed. The launch ramp is only three feet deep. A few years ago the county "nuked" this lake to kill off the rough fish. Adult northern pike and bass were planted to repopulate the lake. Now days your best shots are for bluegills and largemouth bass. You might get lucky and catch a crappie or two . The limit for bluegills is 25, for bass 5. There is a small picnic area with a BBQ pit. There is no potable water. Bring your own. There is a "bathroom". Carstens Lake is sparsely used. It is a quiet, serene little lake that yields satisfying fishing. I prefer using a canoe or some other small, light boat. Use a light rig. Bring a lunch and drinks and what ever you like to smoke and enjoy a laid back time on a laid back lake

Marches and drills for volunteer Union soldiers were held at the park beginning in April of 1861. On September 20, 1939, a Civil War cannon was donated by W.R.C. It was unveiled by Jane Kress whose mother gave a hand-sewn flag to departing Civil War soldiers. The Manitowoc County Historical Society raised funds to erect a historical marker commemorating the site of the training grounds for the volunteers who left for the Civil War in Manitowoc County. This marker was dedicated on June 17, 1997 during a ceremony which included a pie and ice cream social. Restroom facilities for the park were completed in December of 1992. A nice little park with open areas with large trees. Dogs are allowed. There is a small playground and a large open area for volleyball, croquet and other field games. Very neat and trim, not wild at all.
