Moved into a condo on the river with floor to ceiling windows so decided to decorate in a clean, simple mid-century Mod style. Which by the way is vastly different than my previous Old English Tudor. To give my powder room personality and a WOW factor, I decided to wallpaper the small room rather than do a tile application which would have tripled the cost. My contractor recommended this Miller Paint location saying they had the best wallpaper selection in Portland. I didn't want the garish wallpaper of my youth and had a particular idea in mind. Enter Karen, the Wallpaper Goddess. I described a large, bold, chevron pattern in shades of gray and gray-blues. Karen walks to a wall loaded with books, picked out three, flipped to a few pages and I said, stop, that's it, that is what is in my head! Went home and put the book in the powder room and immediately called Karen and placed the order (Candace Olson design.) Karen even helped me find an installer. Next I decided to do an accent wall in my Master bedroom. Again, I had something very specific in mind. So specific I was contemplating hiring an artist to paint the wall. When I described the design concept to Karen she said, you don't have to hire an artist, you are describing Cork wallpaper. Again she goes over to the huge assortment of books, selects a few, opens to a page and on the first try, there was the exact pattern I had envisioned, exactly like a pic I clipped from a magazine and showed Karen. Ordered it on the spot. (Another Candace Olson design.) Three times a charm and so when I decided that I needed one more accent wall, this time in the foyer, I came back to see the Wizard. I described a wall that would have texture, colors and reminiscent of sand on the beach, with specs of shiny gray to pull in the color of the opposing walls and to provide a subtle sparkle. Karen said, do you mean you want Mica? I said I don't know what Mica is, I just know what is in my head. She brings me a book, and once again, right on the money. Seriously, how does she do this? Karen is incredible! She has also helped me pick out paint colors to work with existing tile and carpet. Nailed it every single time. Karen thinks I'm amazing because I pick out wallpaper on the first try and some people spend weeks coming and going with arms full of wallpaper books. Well, I know what I want and Karen magically produces it, so no need to waste time! Decisive is my game. In addition to her talents, Karen is super nice to work with. I'm bummed that my house is completely done as we made a good team! Don't be afraid of wallpaper. The designs these days are incredible and they can transform your space. Go to Miller Paint, grab some popcorn on the first floor, and walk up the steps to the wallpaper area and let Karen do her magic. Oh, and all the people working in the paint area are also professional, friendly and helpful. Great staff all the way around! Wish every store was like this. There is a huge parking lot so parking is a breeze, and they carry your paint and purchases to your car. Tell Karen I sent you! read more

I am not a professional painter. I am simply a homeowner trying to paint my house. Having 3 staff members gang up on me and Shame me with passive aggressive comments because I didn't store my paint can in the right place is unprofessional. I advise management to have a conversation with staff about how to talk to customers. The passive aggressive comments over a can of paint is poor client service. read more

Karen Keller in the design dept was recommended to me, and she is stellar! I was selling my house and agonizing over interior colors. I took photos of my house and showed Karen, and within minutes she grabbed paint samples for every room. Every color turned out PERFECT. I also showed her my ugly fireplace mantle and surround. It has been over eight years since my last Miller Paint review ("The One Where Danni Discovers Frog Tape"). And my love for this store just keeps getting bigger and better. I bring you now, "The One Where Danni Wants to Kiss the Paint Color Technician." We have been embroiled in a front porch rebuild for much of the summer, well into the fall, and dare I say I'm looking down the barrel of a long, cold winter with my front porch in a definitive state of disassemblage. But one thing that absolutely needed to be done prior to the rains was the sealing of the fir floor. We tried so many different options for stain. We would request a quart of a stain based on a chip sample, only to discover that the sample and the actual stain look nothing alike. This happened repeatedly. It was getting laborious. And disheartening. Finally the color tech took a sample of my home trim color, felt he truly understood what we were going for, and asked me to come back the next day. I returned the next day, and he totally knocked it out of the park. Perfect color and transparency. Seriously I could have cried a little with relief. There is absolutely no way that anyone at a box store would have (a) cared or (b) had the skill or (c) taken the initiative to be such an instrumental part of our home improvement project. We are so fortunate to have a company like Miller Paint here. Visit them. Rely on them. Support them. read more

This is a review specifically for their "paint consultations" and I'm not sure which location the lady came from but this is the first location of Miller Paint that came up. We had them come out and paid them to do an external and internal consultation. The external portion basically consisted of her agreeing with a color we already picked out and two options for the door that I felt were horrible. The second part was the internal consultation- basically consisted of painting a large part white! I mean- really? That's the level of creativity that's involved?? I really wanted to love this paint store because they are a local company and I really like a lot of their colors. Save your money and don't bother paying for this "consultation"- definitely NOT worth the money! read more

I had a clerk who wasn't fully versed in the ins and outs of a stain line and long story short, our small project was messed up as a result, but the manager handled it like a champ and completely compensated us for the loss. Their paint quality is outstanding too, with the Evolution line being specifically designed to add life to the walls with our gray PNW skies. Why go anywhere else when you can get outstanding customer service and high quality paint here? Oh yes, they have a design program for $125 for a color consultant to come to your home, then they will give you a $50 gift card to use towards the paint you'll purchase. Super helpful. read more

I get all my paint and many supplies for painting here. It was recommended by architect friends. The best feature of Miller is that you can bring in a paint sample on a piece of molding and they can mix up a match that looks the same when dry. They have all the brushes, rollers, masking tape, drop cloths, cleanup supplies you might need for wall work. They rent wallpaper steamers which are a pretty medieval machine for removing wallpaper. Free parking and a pro desk. I would say they are weak in super saturated dark colors, you might compare some other suppliers for those. They have branches all over town. As others have noted, they are usually busy, aka they are managing their labor efficiently to keep prices low. When you go in immediately get a number from the little dispenser and check the number being served display. It also takes a few minutes to get paint mixed. I had a great 2018 experience too. I had a challenging exterior paint project, primer and custom color matched tinted paint. (I can guarantee, guarantee, guarantee you that many big box paint employees who may seem to be qualified are not.) They made very solid recommendations through a transparent decision process and carried my small 2 gallon order to the car. read more

True fact: White walls are boring. The swatch wall is beautifully varied and full of practical colors with curious names. I chose "Lemon Poppy Cake" which is a dark golden yellow shade. "Praise Giving" gray made it's way on my walls as well. Miller Paint had a 2 for 1 Chinook Book coupon, which is a $40 savings! I was able to use the Miller Paint I bought 10 years ago to repaint my outdoor bench swing. The Miller store on Grand (and I am sure I could have gone to any of their locations) inspected my 10 year old can, put it on the shaker, reinspected the paint and said it was good to go. This Miller Paint store is the epitome of customer service! When i walked in, with plans to buy enough primer and paint (5-6 different colors) to do the entire inside of my house, i didn't realize they were closing in 15 minutes. A clerk greeted me within like a minute of me walking in the door. I showed him the Acro Pure coupon i had and he pointed out all the color options for that type of paint, and even gave me a brochure of color chips that weren't up on the wall. I actually had two different people help me throughout the hour and a half that i was in there - i think one was the manager. Both of them were really helpful - they ask you all the right questions to help you find what you need. So by the time i had picked out my colors, they were about ready to close but the younger clerk said it was no problem and they would mix my colors for me. Because i ordered so much and so many different colors, i wound up being there half an hour past close. They have a waiting room but i hung out up front chatting with them about my project. I never felt rushed or like i was in their way. When the younger clerk came out with all my paint on a hand truck, he and the manager (with all of my primer) followed me to my car and loaded it all into my trunk for me! This is my favorite location to buy paint in Portland. They always have some sort of deal going on. And they have a stash of paint mess ups that can be purchased at. Deep discount. The staff are very nice people and they have a waiting room with tv and free coffee while you wait for them to mix your paint. Parking isn't too hard here and the location is accessible by major highways. I prefer this location over the Hollywood location because this place has better staff and don't seem to be short on products the way the Hollywood location is. read more

You need less expensive paint if it's good than you do cheap paint if it's not. I like colors on the walls, but I hate painting. Miller seems to get this. You can get primers with colors added in which cuts time down dramatically, or if your wall is already primed all of the paint we've used from them has gone on in two coats max. They have everything you could need in a paint scenario, and their people are knowledgeable. read more
