We left our dog in their care for 5 days during our move. We picked him up today and he's pee'd inside all day!! He's NEVER pee'd in the house before. They let the dogs urinate and poop in the large room the keep them in at play time. Otherwise, they're in a kennel. Our dogs demeanor has also changed. Wtf did they do to my baby?! I knew I should've trusted my gut and walked out when the lady was so rude when we walked in. We had obedience training there, so I am shocked. read more

A hidden gem, without a doubt. I was told by several people that the petsmart puppy classes were cheap and did a sufficient job so I looked them up AND other schools for comparison. Petsmart would not let me do drop in classes but Rockwind does. As a matter of fact, RCC offers a super cheap Saturday drop-in class and TONS of other classes for people who like a well trained dog by their side. I've waited two weeks and four classes to write this review because I wanted, as a novice dog trainer, to be sure I knew that this place was worthy of all the praise I want to shower upon it. It is!! I'm in love with all the trainers, the methods (and they are open to using anything you might want to use instead), and the environment. Their prices are competitive, however, expect to pay 10-20 dollars more but, trust me, you get a VERY personalized treatment for that nominal extra few dollars. They know breeds, behavior, dispositions, a plethora of techniques, and they make it FUN. If you just got a puppy, you have a dog who needs more stimulation, you are dealing with behavior issues, or you just want to mix up your methods give these people a call and you'll be glad you did. My new puppy is already flourishing and we just started!! I love Rockwind! Bravo to a group of people who care AND deliver premium training to even the most novice of dog handlers. read more

Do not trust this place. When I called to inquire about their kennel the lady told me it's $32 per day but they give discounts to military personnels etc. and my discount would be $30. I agreed to $30 and left my dog there for 5 days. I picked up my dog today and the lady there said it's $35 per day now since last Monday and after my discount it's now $33. I told her I had agreed to $30 on the phone and that's what it should be. If I had known it was more than $30 I would have gone somewhere else. She said "nope" it's $33. I didn't argue as I saw it would be pointless and not worth the trouble for just a few bucks. The lady was also rude and she seemed weak and unhealthy. I can't expect someone like that to lovingly watch my dog for me! She can't even take care of herself let alone someone else's dog. This place is also stinky and filthy (two dogs poop and it took her a while to pick it up) and very dreary looking. Do not trust what they say on the phone. Carol is not only an amazing trainer; she is also VERY rescue friendly! She has been working with our rescue group and foster families for over three years now. We take in high energy hunting dogs that people can no longer handle or no longer want; most of them with behavioral problems from a not so pleasant past and we work on finding families for them. Carol has helped me personally with three different foster dogs, all with difficult pasts. With the work, help, patients and guidance of Carol, I was able to get all three dogs to overcome their history, and get them to a point where they became highly adoptable. I'm happy to report that all three dogs are living out their Happily Ever Afters and thriving in amazing homes, due to the help of Carol!! She feels it is important to get the dogs in a good mental place and trained, so once they are adopted, they stay adopted and the cycle is broken! I am just one of many fosters in my rescue group that Carol has helped with their problem dogs. She understands their behaviors and works with us foster on how to get them past it. She helps us make these dogs whole again. I also know that she works with other breed specific rescues and fosters as well. It takes a village in the rescue world; Carol, with her knowledge of all breeds and understanding of dog behaviors, is a huge helpful piece of it!! Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks??? I have worked and hunted over my personal dog for the last 9 years. However, he is getting to the point in his life where, for his safety, I have to start thinking about retiring him from the fields. He is smart and I want to keep his mind and body active, so we have started an Advance Obedience class with Carol. He may be a trained hunting dog, but he and I are both learning SO much on the other end of the spectrum in skilled obedience! This is training and a fun challenge for BOTH of us!! It is so much fun working him and then seeing the light bulb go on when something clicks and he gets it!! It is also keeping our bond strong! It's a new kind of work for both of us! 0 stars due to lack of respect for my basic inquiry about getting my Bernese mountain dog to become my service dog. As a combat veteran I struggle with anxiety and depression. The lady on the phone was quick and rude and the fact that she abruptly asked me "well what is he going to do for you?" Umm, I don't know maybe increase my mental well- being and overcome trauma!? I was granted a letter from the VA stating I would greatly benefit from a service dog. That meant nothing to them and my service connected disability. Wonderful doggie daycare! They have a very knowledgeable and caring staff! My foster dog enjoys going to play with the other dogs and greatly benefits from the exercise and socialization while I'm at work. I can rest assured knowing that my dog is in trained hands and safe while I'm away. The location is also perfect as it is not too far from the VA hospital and medical center in Aurora. The facility opens early so it is perfect for those of us that have early shifts. I highly recommend this great place for doggie daycare. read more

My puppy was there for daycare from May to July and was attacked twice. We overlooked it BUT then she was boarded during thanksgiving and was hurt again. She had bite wounds on her head and a bite wound on her chest. No one bothered to mentioned it AND she was covered in urine. I contacted carol the owner who offered to pay for the vet fees and to date 6-26-14 she had not paid me one red penny. I will never take my dog there nor would I refer her to anyone that cares about their dog read more

The owners and employees have always been caring and very helpful with any of my training needs. I highly recommend the training facility and boarding facility. I stopped by one day to check out the facility because they had a program called Barn hunt. In the meantime I talked to the owner because my rescued dog had such fear aggression with people especiand all because of Carols patience and training techniques and her ability to help me as a human understand what I needed to do for my dog and I just really wanted to say thank you. Our dog (a doberman) LOVES this place! As soon as we are within 1/2 mile he starts clamoring to get out of the car and inside "Doggy Camp." He LOVES it. We have boarded him for short trips and for 10 day trips. We did find him to be a little thin after the 10 day stay, but that is because he was running around playing and not eating enough! You have to up their food for all the activity they will be getting... now we know. Regarding the reviewer who said they boarded their dog here, then brought it home after their *MOVE* and the dog began a new habit of peeing throughout the house, I believe this had very little to do with the dog's stay at Rocwind. It was more likely that the dog was marking over the scent of a dog who used to live there, or the dog was marking its new residence. Yes, the dogs do pee and poo in the warehouse play area at Rocwind, but the assistant watching the dogs CONSTANTLY cleans up immediately after a dog goes - so it's not like they run around in it all day or something. We have never had a problem with our dog going in our house after a stay at Rocwind - I think this is a "specific-to-their-situation" incident. The kennel is no frills - a big warehouse to run around in with other dogs, and crates/cages to sleep and nap in. But our dog LOVES it. He is very happy to go there and he is always happy and in great spirits when we pick him up, too, so I think they take great care of him. We have taken our dog to obedience training here, too, and Carol did a GREAT job of educating us humans how to communicate effectively with our puppy! The only reason I give 4 stars, not 5, is I wish they had longer pickup hours. But you really can't beat the care. Dog is happy, we don't worry about him because we know he is in good hands, what more can you ask for? read more

We would highly recommend Carol Volleberg / Rocwind Canine Center to anyone in need of a great dog trainer or boarding facility. We have been clients since 2006, when we adopted a female Rottweiler puppy that had severe fear aggression. She acted so aggressively around strangers that we had to place her in a separate room whenever we had guests at our house. We were told by several people that she was hopeless and simply needed to be "put down." But we just couldn't give up on her without trying everything we could. A friend recommended Carol Volleberg for her particular expertise in dealing with large-breed dogs. We immediately signed up for the Basic Obedience Class and found Carol to be absolutely wonderful! Carol possesses an incredible ability to effectively communicate with canines of all breeds and temperaments, and to teach their owners how to do the same. In just the first three sessions, Carol transformed our fearful puppy into an amazing family dog who was confident, social and loving. For the balance of her lifetime, she always loved to go to Rocwind for both training and boarding. We are now just finishing the Advanced Obedience course with our second female Rottweiler (she earlier completed both Puppy Obedience and Basic Obedience at Rocwind). She is a happy, well-adjusted dog that loves her classes and is excited to see Carol each time! We have had our 90 lbs. puppy go through two training sessions at Rocwind and it was very educational as an owner to understand K9s and their pack mentality. Too many times people try to be sweet and talk gently to their dogs to make them 'behave'. Dogs may act like children, but they are not humans. We learned that K9s instinctively respond to the pack mentality and become more loving pets when they understand you are in charge. You should utilize corrective actions for inappropriate behavior differently than you would with people. This has made a world of difference for us as our puppy is happy and playful but understands what is acceptable behavior. Our older dog has a much gentler disposition and does not need as much correction. Not all dogs are similar in how much corrective instruction is needed but they all will be more loving to the alpha (dog owner) when you set expectations for proper behavior. All dog owners should take training classes with their pets to learn the instinctual mind of the K9 and master the right kind of techniques for correction to improve your relationship with them. read more

After several days of oral antibiotics, Benadryl, betadine-soaked gauze eye washes and topical antibiotic ointment, The skin around Rufus' eyes is slowly improving. After the course of treatment was complete, he still has healing scabs and a small not-quite-healed lump that may need another course of the ointment. It will take a long time for all the hair to grow back though (hopefully it does). I emailed the vet bill of about $76 to Rocwind on 3/25/15 and today is 4/2 - 8 days. I have not received reimbursement yet. While they seem to be concerned about it and were very apologetic, the excuses I have been given over the couple of weeks after picking him up just continued. I would have been more placated with apologies without the excuses thrown in. read more

I was very disappointed with Rocwind. I had asked if it was safe for my small dog and was assured that the program was o.k. for small dogs. However, my small puppy was left alone with 2 very large puppies all off lead. My puppy was traumatized by the experience. The trainer/owner even made a comment that personality is bred out of miniature breeds. Clearly, she has a prejudice against miniature poodles. I only went to one class and realized that it was not for us. The office is unorganized and dirty. I left a message cancelling my reservation and asked for a refund, but never received a call back. I do not recommend this training center, especially if you have a small dog. read more

I took my dog to Rocwind for the first time today. I was very nervous as I have problems socializing him in the past at dog parks. He is a large breed and can be protective. Carol, Don, Gail and the rest of the staff are AMAZING! I can't believe how well my dog did socializing with others. The people at Rocwind really know how dogs react and how to properly correct them. I am very grateful that they are a part of my life. My dog now has a place to play when I go out of town. I highly recommend Rocwind especially if you have a "special" dog....that needs extra attention or help with social skills. read more

For about 12 years now, I have been using Rocwind Canine Center to board my dogs. I, and my furry friends, love getting to romp with the other boarders, and then retire to their kennel-condos for sleep and meal times. Carol and the rest of the staff are so caring and knowledgeable. An added plus is that it's on the way to the airport! Rocwind was first recommended to me by a friend who had had long experience with Carol's training and competition skills, which I've never had the need for. When my current dog is gone, if we get another puppy, I fully intend to sign up for obedience training with Carol. read more

I have boarded and trained four dogs at Rocwind over the past 20 years and have only the highest praise for them. My dogs eagerly run in for boarding and are happy and healthier upon my return than when I left them. And I don't say that lightly. Tucker, my 16 pound Cavalier King Charles was attacked the day before I was leaving for 10 days resulting in his eye having to be surgically removed!! It was awful and I had to go due to parental health issues. Carole and Crew at Rocwind were better trained than I to care for Tucker. They created a makeshift pen next to the desk for him to hang out in as he couldn't be with other dogs. Tamra said he spent the first day on her lap only occasionally whimpering. They monitored him for pain in case he needed pain meds and to rule out any infection and the need for a vet visit (to which they said they would transport him if needed). They updated me until I no longer felt the need to call in. I returned to a largely healed and happy dog. I trust Carole, Don and their staff with my precious Tucker and any future doggie member of my family. As well as boarding, they trained me to train and maintain my dogs' behaviors. Well behaved dogs have made my life pleasant and my dogs welcome in and invited back to all dog-friendly settings that I frequent. I cannot recommend Rocwind highly enough. read more

We took a puppy class here. Their techniques are all about submission, holding your puppy down, being "the leader of the pack", scaring them every time they do something wrong. Most of the training focused on how to scare your dog out of doing bad behaviors, instead of positive reinforcement. I was shocked to find people still promoting the view that you have to dominate your dog to make them behave when all the research indicates otherwise. So, if you want to scare your dog or force them into doing behaviors instead of training them with kindness, then this is the place for you. We walked out of the class when the owner was holding a puppy down to MAKE it stay on a mat - her expectation was that the puppy should sit for 30 minutes while we listened to her lecture (why would anyone have this expectation of a 4 or 5 month old puppy?!). The puppy was crying and she was holding it down. It was just plain awful and in my opinion bordered on abuse. Do her methods work? Probably! She has dogs that won't even touch her dinner if she leaves it on the coffee table - but at what cost? I have a really well behaved adult dog who I trained using positive reinforcement - she does what I ask because she wants to please me, not because she's scared of me. Big difference. read more

I have an ongoing issue with the owner of Rocwind K9 center in Aurora. We first contacted Rocwind about 2 months ago for basic obedience for our 8 month old Cane Corso, Lucy and our 2 year old Cocker Spaniel, King Charles Cavalier mix, Cooper. We started the obedience training on the 8th of March and thought that it was a good class until the end of the class when the owner repeatedly slapped another dog for growling at another dog. We were inot shock to see that a professional would do that to a dog that they were supposed to be training. However, we didn't question her because she "is" a professional after all, and decided to attend the class the following week. All was going well until Cooper who has never had training before, didn't listen to her lay command. She tried to force him to lay down and Cooper growled. She then began to repeatedly smack Cooper in the face yelling "You're not going to win, I am going to win!" She then lifted Cooper of the ground by his leash that was attached to a "snap choke" collar and repeatedly snapped the collar while he was dangling in the air. Cooper undoubtedly tried to defend himself and managed to bite her finger at which point she put him in a muzzle. My wife, 9 year old son, 6 year old daughter, about ten other customers, and myself just watched in horror as this so called professional was handling the situation. Cooper is a 18 pound dog that stands no taller than a foot and half, and is the most loving, adorable dog anybody could ever meet. The owners bite required 8 stiches, that I paid for in full ($312), first, because she threatened to have him put to sleep, and second because of lack of knowledge concerning dog bites and dog handlers, groomers, veterinarian's, etc. After some self investigating concerning dog bites, I contacted the owner and asked for a refund of the training which was supposed to be a 6 week course that totaled out to $240 for both dogs, and the cost for the medical bill. At first she was reluctant and argued and called me out of my name multiple times, before I told her I would seek legal counsel. She finally agreed to pay the full amount by mail. I provided her with my address, and after 3 weeks of no contact received nothing. On, 04/03/2017 my wife and I, decided to go speak to her in person at her facility in Aurora. After waiting for about an hour, she finally came to speak to us. I asked her for the money which she replied she would be paying us $50 monthly because she has "truck issues". I told her that we couldn't wait that long because we also have issues of our own. She got very belligerent, and again began calling me names, and being very rude in front of other customers. She finally said all she could do was $200 dollars, went in her purse took the money, threw it at me, and then walked away saying she had a class to teach. As a business owner, I believe she is very unprofessional, and other people should be warned before they have to endure something like this. I believe this will be an ongoing issue and any pet lover should beware of this. This is ANIMAL CRUELTY plain and simple. Something needs to be done about this. read more
