I was never a big fan of Macarons but ROCQ turned me into one as of yesterday. I visited the store for and with my son who loves Macarons. Pop up store itself isn't much but mini cakes and macarons were so pretty and eye pleasing. Macarons come in 30 some flavors. I picked up recommended flavors, Passion fruit, Butter Pecan, and chocolate caramel, and added mango, blueberry and coconut. I also bought almond croissants and a rum and raisin croissant along with herbs de Provence dinner rolls that were baked freshly in the morning. 5 stars for Macarons and Herbs de Provence dinner rolls! All Macarons I've tried so far are excellent - perfect smooth crust, slightly chewy beneath the crust with smooth and light filling. Passion fruit is tart and sweet hitting multiple taste buds and sensations. Butter pecan is my favorite with nutty, buttery and sweet - I was told it is also chef's favorite. Chocolate caramel has just hint of caramel and doesn't over power chocolate. All of them with just right amount of sweetness to complement the flavors. Croissants were dense and sweet. I prefer flaky. However, herbs de Provence dinner rolls are delicious! Good crust outside and soft inside. Olives add savory and cheesy flavor enhancing umami to the rolls. I will be back for more Macarons and trying out their cakes. And I will look forward to special dinner rolls! read more

The first time I tried macarons was at Rocq about 6 years ago when there was a small cafe in Lake Forest, CA. I was hooked! And as fate would have it, I was doing a search for yummy desserts in the area and discovered that they had not disappeared forever. I placed my first online order for a co-worker and have been averaging an order a week. Call it an addiction, but how can I deny my loved ones the pleasure of these delicious morsels? Don't get me started on the cakes! I again ordered online, went for curbside pickup on Saturday, and ended up getting more (and more) of the most beautifully presented, scrumptious, and oh so out-of-this-world display of mini treasures. I discovered the joy that is Chef Rocq thanks Milk & Honey in Costa Mesa. Milk Honey started selling his macarons a few years ago and you can also find Rocq desserts at Whole Foods Markets in Orange County. But recently, he truly gained my respect when I showed up to this location on a Monday only to discover I didn't read the Yelp reviews carefully since the location is only open on "Guilty Saturdays!" Please don't make the same mistake I did and check his Facebook page ( https://www.facebook.com/Rocq-Macarons-134960706579124/?fref=ts ) to confirm the times and dates when this location is open. Rohlinism: The worse kind of stupidity is the kind that is self-inflicted! I spoke to Chef Rocq over the phone after not seeing anyone in the building and I was informed he wasn't open on Mondays. As I was about to do the "walk of shame," he informed me there were some macarons and cakes available and he would be happy to sell some to us. I would have completely understood if he just apologized and sent me on my way, but he spent the time to go over the cakes and macaron flavors and even brought some of the cakes out so we weren't ordering blind. On April Fool's Day, we returned to get some more delicious desserts. We arrived around 11:00AM and Chef Rocq's wife Deborah warmly welcomed us back when we walked into the building. The flavors are well balanced and you never question what flavor you are eating. If macarons aren't your thing, the chocolate flourless tarts are equally addictive. My lovely wife is a choco-holic and can't put this tart down. The chocolate is decadent and melts in your mouth. The only complaint would be the graham cracker base is a little too thick for our tastes, but it is a minor issue. I haven't tried the chocolate cake with raspberry coulis, but I am sure it will exceed my lofty expectations both in moistness and flavor. The desserts will satisfy your palate and stomach, but the customer service is what will keep you coming back here ... only on Guilty Saturdays though! read more

Once upon a time, there was a small restaurant in Lake Forest named Rocq Cafe. I loved it so. Loved the delicious quiche, Cordon Bleu and ratatouille there but especially went there to get my fill of Chef Rocq's amazing macarons. I have always been a fan of these petite French sweets and Chef Rocq, being a classically trained French pastry chef, had not only delicious macarons, but wonderful desserts there, also. The Rocqs ended up closing the cafe to my and many South County residents' dismay because they wanted to focus on their macaron and dessert production. Their desserts and macarons can be found in many Whole Foods bakeries throughout the nation now with their dessert factory being located in Foothill Ranch. I was ecstatic to learn recently that Rocq Macarons started recently having Saturday macaron, cake and dessert sales at their factory. I went this past Saturday when the sale was from 10 am to 2 pm. I was so excited. Not only could I purchase a box of two dozen macarons of flavors of my picking for $40, but could also buy some of their beautiful 6" cakes, mini cakes and other desserts. Delicious macaron flavors such as chocolate strawberry, cookies and cream, passionfruit, coconut, etc,. Of the mini desserts we purchased, the Chocolate Chip Macaron filled with whipped cream and decorated with raspberries and Chocolate Hazelnut Mini Cake were to die for! Of note, this is not a retail store. Because the residents of South Orange County miss Rocq Cafe so much, the Rocqs have decided to have these Saturday dessert sales. I do miss Rocq Cafe and Chef Rocq's fantastic French cooking but am happy for he and his wife's success with their dessert line.
