I AM NOT BEING DRAMATIC WHEN I SAY THIS STICKY BUN CHANGED MY LIFE. Okay, maybe just a LITTLE dramatic, but my god - it is GOOD. I drove nearly an hour round trip for this (thank you, pregnancy cravings) after seeing that this place has a highly acclaimed cinnamon bun, but when I walked in, the pecan sticky bun stole my heart. It is everything you could want and more. Soft, gooey, perfectly sweet, delectably dense, just absolute perfection. I'm bad with names but I believe Ash helped me, and they were also so sweet, too! A little something sweet has been my go-to for years now. This petite bakery hidden in the back of a Starbucks anchored shopping center is no slouch. It is bright and inviting while still feeling homey and full of love! The staff are so sweet and inviting that you can feel the love that goes into their pastries and cakes. They have dozens of treats, quick pick items for parties, cakes, miniature desserts, and my personal favorite, the CINNAMON ROLL!! I have spent years perfecting my own recipe and sampling from every bakery around the country. It is the best cinnamon roll in South Orange County without question. It is gooey, warm, and behind it's light and flaky crust, the vanilla cream cheese frosting gets in between the soft layers pretending to be a mozzarella stick with cinnamon goodness "cheese" pulls that will make your mouth water. The vanilla cream cheese frosting is to die for. Their savory pastries are all made in house. They have gone through a few different versions from their take on the savory toaster strudel to roasted veggie croissants, but they always stand out for their quality and use of fresh ingredients. My wife's obsession is their lemon meringue pie bites. They are sweet, tangy, creamy, and the perfect touch of sour. My daughter's love their "no cake left behind" cake in a cup. What a cute shop! Super friendly service, and I love the variety of offerings here. There's even more than baked goods! Cute decor pieces and decoration sets as well as some cards. I asked what was uniquely theirs, and was pointed to the No Cake Left Behind section. They take the extra pieces of cake from baking and layer it with yummy toppings, like you would see in a German chocolate cake. It's very good. I followed their recommendation and waited about 30min for it to come up to room temp. We also tried an almond coconut cookie, pistachio croissant, and 2 macarons (blueberry and watermelon). Everything was very good! The almond coconut cookie and German chocolate No Cake Left Behind were my favorites. Everything here is also very fairly priced. I'm definitely coming back! read more

I brought home one of their Cinnamon Rolls ($5.25) for hubby, who is a big fan of cinnamon rolls; these are superior to other places' typical pastry. After heating these in the microwave for 20 seconds (as instructed), these are moist-&-flavorful with a generous layer of frosting -- and appreciatively not overly sweet! I also enjoyed one of their Hand Pies (Custard was the flavor for that day), $2.95. Our thoughts are their No Cake Left Behind (chocolate cake cup, $5) was the least impressive of the treats we tasted; the cake was nice but the frosting didn't have us desiring more. We enjoyed the Cinnamon Roll (our favorite in this area, to date!) so much that I returned the following morning for more! Friendly, knowledgeable, patient, and efficient service. Fabulous find! I decided to get a custom cake about 12 days before the birthday party. Usually it's at least 14 day advance for custom cakes but they were able to accommodate the event. I went with a golf theme cake and it came out amazing! Everyone said how awesome the cake was. I usually expect nice cakes to lack flavor or be dry but this one wasn't! Myself and all my guests were raving about the cake flavor. We went with a white cake with raspberry and mini chocolate chip filling, it's one of their speciality creations. SO GOOD. I now have my go to spot for birthday cakes...highly recommend! read more

My husband ordered a birthday cake for me, but to my shock, the bakery handed it to him without any box or cover -- just the bare cake sitting on an open tray. Because there was no packaging, my husband had to place it on the floor of the car and drive very carefully to keep it safe. The lack of a box was not only inconvenient but also raised serious concerns about hygiene. A cake should always come in a proper box or protective packaging. Handing it over this way felt careless and completely unprofessional. For something that is supposed to be a special creation, this was extremely disappointing and absolutely not what I would expect from a bakery. The cake price was $45. read more

This is a cute bakery with everything made from scratch. We started making it a tradition to purchase the take and bake cinnamon rolls for Christmas. You purchase them ahead of time with a pickup on Christmas eve. Everyone who works here are very nice and the rolls are easy to bake and delicious. They also go well with Champagne! read more

They replied promptly, they had a good selection of flavors and combinations and they were willing to work within my budget. The best way to describe this bakery is a neighborhood hidden gem with magical surprises inside. From delicious treats to handmade gnomes to a genuinely kind fairy godmother, this place has it all! The chocolate croissant was among some of the tastiest I've had, and the cinnamon roll did not disappoint. My only regret was not buying more treats for me to eat throughout the week. The lady working there was the sweetest, most energetic person I've spoken to in a while, and her recommendations were spot on. Cute little shop here in Lake Forest. They make custom orders cakes (as long as you put in your orders a few weeks in advance) and the prices vary depending on the labor and design of your custom cake. I came here for a few breakfast pastries and it was delicious. This store is super cute and when you walk in all you smell is sweets and butter. So you know they make everything here fresh. They even make their own flavored butter that are around $5 a jar. Their mini pies are $7 and they also have macarons, cookies, and cheesecake bars. Owners are very friendly and super nice. I have come here on occasion to get "a little something sweet," but this was my first time ordering a cake from them. I will say I was NOT disappointed! I came with pictures of what I wanted, which was a purple ombre with a glaze icing, topped with fruit. The cake was perfect all the way to the perfectly placed pieces for fruit and it was really good cake! The service I received for this order was really nice as well. They took the time to go over the order with me and when time to leave with the cake, walked it out to my car for me and gave me instructions on how it would be best served so I would get the most out of my purchase and experience. I just discovered this little gem a few months ago! It's kind of secluded near the starbucks close to Lake Forest and Dimension. They offer yummy cinnamon rolls (I've been told - I can't eat dairy or gluten), delicious little pastries, and desserts. They cater for parties and events too. For my daughter's beach picnic grad party we wanted simple small treats so we ordered mini red velvet cupcakes, pecan vanilla minis, and snickerdoodle mini cookies. They were a hit, especially the snickerdoodles! I also ordered a few gluten free cake cups and we have ordered breakfast pastries and a variety of other goodies. Delicious treats! My husband found this place as we were researching desserts for our wedding. We communicated with Elizabeth directly. communication was a little delayed at times but never an issue. We got great service and yummy treats for our dessert table. Many guests enjoyed them! As for the shop itself, it's small and filled with so many great and tasty desserts. The staff that works there are so kind and helpful! Cool little sweet shop here at Lake Forest, right behind Starbucks. My wife and I walked around here almost every day, but it's usually closed (They close at 5 pm daily, Sundays they close at 3 pm, and on Mondays they are close all day.) Today we dropped by, it is a family own business and the owner is usually working in the back. They lady at the front was very nice, very patient while we decided what to get. Various options. It is very small inside, but you can seat outside and enjoy the sweets and or coffee if you want. The sweets we bought are really delicious. Who wouldn't appreciate a good cake and decadent cookies on a rainy day? Today around 10 am, I stopped by this cute desert place to grab a few sweets and a cake to bring to the office. While checking out what they sell, I couldn't help myself, but adopt this one-of-a-kind gnome. These are irresistibly cute! They all look and feel different, as these were made "one by one" by Kristin. She'd mentioned that she makes these during Halloween too, which I'm looking forward to adding it to my gnome collection. Little bakery tucked in between a vet and a hotel, seems to have a pretty big variety of desserts for pretty much anyone with a sweet tooth. This tiny counter service shop has no indoor seating as it devotes its spare square footage to on-site baking and displaying its wares. I came in for the cinnamon roll which is only available on the weekends starting from Friday. There are a lot of tiny squares of sheet tray bakes, cakes in a cup, and cookies but only 3 savory filled croissants. Not having a giant sweet tooth, I picked the spinach and cheese croissant, a mixed berry cream cheese turnover and a cinnamon roll and a hot Earl Grey tea. The service is exuberantly friendly and helpful. The clerk asked me if I was planning on eating any of the pastries right away. She heated up the cinnamon roll and croissant for me and upgraded my hot tea to a big cup when I told her I liked a lot of very hot water in my tea. A weird thing was she mentioned she doesn't like eating the spinach pastry but her coworker in the back has one for breakfast every day. Having had the pastry, I'm siding with her. I don't know how much turnover this little shop gets but the pastry was tough and tasted at least a couple days old. Flavor seemed dim. I had to look at it to remember what flavor it was supposed to be. The cinnamon roll was tasty with a gooey center and unctuous icing. I knew that they only make them for the weekend so I was reasonably sure it was fresh. I didn't buy the turnover for myself so I hope that tastes fresher than the croissant. All in all, if I were to come back, it would only be for the weekend cinnamon rolls and super friendly service. Prices seem high as a tiny 2-inch square cut of bar cookie running you $3. The cinnamon roll was $4 which seemed on the high side. I've read the other reviews about the flaky responses customers looking to place custom orders for cakes and special event desserts. I hope this business can survive in these tough times. read more

They are available to reserve in advance or you can stop in! Our predesigned cakes made in house can be picked up daily, or ordered in advance or placed on hold in advance. We offer 4 rotating flavors weekly. Our 3 weekly flavors are vanilla with rainbow sprinkles, vanilla cake with strawberry filling and chocolate cake with chocolate filling and vanilla icing. The 4th flavor changes weekly. Anything custom requires a minimum of 14 days notice but it his HIGHLY suggested that you reach out 14+ as we do tend to book up early. We exclusively do this Thru email, as there is one person who handles all custom orders. We consider anything that is custom decorated or a specific flavor combination requested as a custom option. We suggest reaching out to us as soon as you know the date of your event, as we book up early!

History

Established in 2010.

After going to Culinary School at the Culinary Institute of America in New York Elizabeth decided she wanted to share her passion with others and help make their events a little bit sweeter. She started A Little Something Sweet from her hole in 2010 and has been making unique and personalized treats for clients ever since. Their first retail location opened June 9th 2020 and now have options for grab and go or short notice items with the same scratch made quality and attention to detail!

Meet the Business Owner: Elizabeth Z.

A Little Something Sweet was a home based bakery that Elizabeth started out of her house back in 2009. At first it was just a fun hobby that she got to goof around with and make some cakes, now it is a full scale bakery that she gets to take customer's ideas and turn them into a sugar filled reality! She specializes in making everything from the simple scooped cookie, to elaborate dessert bars, celebration cakes, wedding cakes and 3D sculpted cakes. Her passion is in the details and believes that the sweet treats leaving her kitchen should taste as good as they look. After all, they are desserts and are meant to be enjoyed, not just looked at! Elizabeth graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York with a bachelors degree in baking and pastry and hospitality management. She has worked at many different bakeries as well as hotels and fine dining restaurants. She loves working from home and the fact that she gets to go to work and play with sugar all day!

For this price, I expected artisanal craftsmanship, not a collection of plastic balls and paper toppers. Once you strip away the non-edible parts, you are left with a basic chiffon cake that tastes no different from a $40 cake at a standard Asian bakery. The massive markup seems to be for the "styling" of plastic toys rather than the actual baking or artistry. It felt like paying a premium for a cake that I had to "disassemble" just to eat.
