    We have been taking our dog to be groomed every six weeks for the last three years. We moved here…read morethis year and tried this place based on reviews. We have been four times. Each time is very rushed. We get a bath and full body cut with teeth brushing and nail trim. We have always expected a decent grooming to be at least an hour and a half for these services at various groomers. Our dog has never had a single complaint from a groomer and they always say how much they love him. Dee-O-Gee rushes through in 45 minutes. As a result, our dog is not as soft or cleanly shaved as other groomers. His behavior is also very unusual after we pick him up, like he is unusually scared. In November, the groomer told us he needed "too much reassurance" while being groomed and she was not sure if he was welcome back in the future. Not sure a groomer, and not a manager, has the authority to ban a dog based on her personal opinion. She was unable to tell us what went wrong when we asked and then offered to groom him at his next appointment. Very confusing! At today's appointment we were scolded upon pickup and told he pooped at the end. He has never done this in three years and something was clearly wrong. I'm sorry, but I'm also not sure what the groomer wanted me to do after the fact. She just felt compelled to scold me about it for several minutes in front of other customers and staff. Very condescending treatment from groomers who should be prepared to work with dogs of all types. Will not be back.

    I am an ex-volunteer, and I found the way the director treated her volunteers was abhorrent. There…read morewas poor communication among volunteers, and it was not an upbeat environment. I would ask if I needed to improve on anything, and would be told that I was fine. Then later on, would have to deal with her hating on me for various things. After volunteering there for seven years, despite my attempts at communication, she let me go. Rather than handling it professionally, she sent me a scathing e-mail listing why I was an awful person and volunteer. She also made claims that were not true at all. She does this to other people, too. She did it to one of my coworkers recently who had been a volunteer, and she did it to my husband, so I know it isn't just me. In addition, I found her training practices with the educational birds to be questionable. She is very authoritarian when training the birds, and she teaches you to deal with potentially-dangerous educational birds by adopting an authoritarian attitude with them. This does not work well with birds in general, and it does not work in birds of prey. If anything, it makes the bird more potentially dangerous to you, because they do not react to it well at all. They have also had birds come in that, due to their species, have very specific needs, which she did not always attend to until it was too late. At the same time, though, I will admit that they have also saved birds, and not all of their techniques are bad. I am no longer in contact or association with them, and most likely will never be.

    I have volunteered with Montana Raptor Conservation Center for 2 years on the Raptor Rehabilitation…read moreside of the organization. My duties mostly include caring for wild raptors that are brought to the Center to receive care and be released. However, I have had the good fortune of interacting with all of the personnel that are employed by the Board of MRCC. In my time with the Center, I have felt nothing but respect and appreciation from the personnel. I am always greeted with a smile, encouraged to learn about the Raptors and the care they are receiving, only do what I am comfortable with, and given timely feedback on ways in which I could improve (both for my safety and for the care of the raptors). At the end of every volunteer shift, the personnel always say "Thank You", and you can tell that they genuinely feel gratitude. All of the practices and procedures at MRCC are centered around providing the best possible care for the birds, both in education and rehabilitation. The education birds are trained and handled with respect and positive reinforcement. The rehabilitation birds are immediately assessed for their needs upon arrival at the Center and then are given prompt care. There is even a veterinarian that volunteers her time to perform procedures and surgeries necessary to return the raptors to the wild! I will say that the head of the rehabilitation side always speaks with respect, but will defend the birds and is here to serve them. If she feels that a volunteer's practices are not befitting the environment of respect and appreciation of the Center, she will defend the interests of the birds and the Center first. Usually this is not an issue, but occasionally some people may be here to serve themselves instead of serving conservation efforts. It's unfortunate when this happens, as I know the head of Rehab truly values her volunteers and offers second and third chances to improve interactions. I also know that she takes to heart all feedback and is a person of self-reflection. Southwest Montana is truly lucky to have such an amazing conservation center supported by volunteers who are lead by three personnel that strive to do their very best each and every day! I feel lucky to be able to volunteer here and to get to learn and interact with these birds and these people. (While I don't have much to do with the education birds and the program side of the Center, I have seen a few of the programs and can attest to their informative nature while also being engaging.)
