They observed wear on the prongs that held the main diamond in place, and recommended fixing those as well. We were a little hesitant to move forward with fixing the unstable prongs, because the original design is extremely intricate. We did not want to risk losing the vintage character, but the professional at Sam's assured us that they would pay close attention to detail of the original design. With that said, we went for it. I picked up the ring after about a little more than a week, and it is flawless! The crack on the band was seamlessly repaired, without the slightest sign that it was ever broken. And the prongs....the ones we were so worried about...are flawless! They brought a 100-yr old ring back to life, without losing its character! Highly recommended and we will definitely be back.

The reviews about the high costs for repairs/replacement are also true, but remember Zales is a corporation, everything is marked up. So far, I have not had any issues with my jewelry, thankfully. I find it very concerning that an employee would knowingly attempt to package an item in that condition rather than simply saying, "This one doesn't look right. Let me get you another one." James Avery is not inexpensive, and customers should not have to carefully inspect merchandise because an associate may knowingly sell them an item with an obvious quality issue. I ultimately received another charm, but the way the situation was handled left a very poor impression.
