Should be named Absolutely Amazing …read more I had a wonderful experience starting with a phone call , I called and asked some questions about what kind of fish did they have etc ... person on the phone was extremely helpful. Drove in the next day and from the moment you walk in the door there's plenty of people willing to help you and answer any questions you might have , and that was simply amazing to me . Not like going petco or pet smart where people barely know what they're doing . I was greeted by Vinnie and Nick and they simply followed me through the store and answer every question I had with confidence and helped me make a decision on what fish to get . I mentioned to them I was traveling far and the fish would be in the bag for at least 6 hours , they added oxygen to one of the bags and explained that the other fish didn't needed because of the kind of fish he was . I then asked about a small cooler since I didn't think they would fit in the one I thought and Vinnie went out of his way to accommodate me . Service is EXCELLENT.. Now let's talk about the store .. They have hundreds of fish of every size , breed and color in freshwater tanks , salt water tanks and even have a little pond in the store with some beautiful Koi . I must say every rank looks clean and well cared for , and I didn't see one single dead fish in any tank . ( every time I went to other places there's always dead fish inside a tank or two ) . , They also have a huge variety of tank maintenance products and decor . I am considering a larger tank in a few months and will definitely go back for more . Thanks to Vinnie and Nick for the exceptional customer service . They have so much knowledge and experience it's simply amazing to see .

Secondly, the guy behind the counter was clueless. When I mentioned that I called and no one answered. He just shrugged and said the women that usually answered the phone wasn't in for the last few days. I asked about what I was looking for and he said he doesn't work on that side and has no idea. I try to support local businesses but I ended up at PETCO where I will probably go back again next time.

My experience with NJ Exotic Pets was very bittersweet. I purchased my beloved hedgehog Hazelnut…read morefrom them, and she was the friendliest, cuddliest, smartest, chillest little girl ever. Our bond was truly special, and I will always be grateful that they brought her into my life. That said, I do have concerns about the health of the hedgehogs they sell. Hazelnut came home with rhinitis and severe diarrhea and needed antibiotics. I even asked if her completely liquid stool was normal (since I was such a newbie to hedgies and had no idea what was and wasn't normal) and was told "yes" by the store; which was very clearly not true... lol. Later in life, she developed a devastating neurological disease that eventually left her paralyzed and requiring around-the-clock care. I would do it all again for her without hesitation, but my experience truly taught me how important responsible breeding and lineage tracking are. Neurological diseases such as Wobbly Hedgehog Syndrome have a suspected hereditary component. Because captive pet populations stem from limited bloodlines and can involve frequent inbreeding, a heritable predisposition remains a plausible explanation, especially since WHS has not been documented in wild African pygmy hedgehogs. For anyone considering a hedgehog, I would personally recommend going through a reputable breeder who can provide documented lineage, health records, and information showing the line is free of known neurological disease. These animals deserve to be bred responsibly, with their health and well-being coming before profit. No hedgehog should have to suffer because proper breeding practices and genetic health weren't prioritized.

Their freshwater plant-life are healthy, vibrant, and the staff are incredibly knowledgeable on their products. I've worked primarily with Peter, and Joe (I believe is his name, sorry bro!), and they've shown excellent customer service. If you need products that they don't have, they'll purchase them for you to pick-up. All I'm missing are the fish themselves, which are ALL so well taken care of. However, HOF has not only a variety of both saltwater, and freshwater fish, but they are all so well nourished that it is impossible to not instantly notice the stark differences. GO. TO. THEIR. Now Peter and Joe are in the front office in charge of in home custom set-up and maintenance. Just two days ago, Joe rolled up to my house in the big HOF van to do a refresh of my 65 gallon freshwater tank. He spent 3 hours pruning and relocating plants, shifting hardscape.
