He checked us in, and some of the prepaid people were missing. He calls his boss, who presumably reaches out to the missing. We then spend the next 15 minutes sitting in the Peachtree Center as he describes the center and the surrounding area, just killing time to see if the missing arrive late. We finally get going, and the tour guide talks nonstop, in a booming voice, with the microphone turned up full volume, and he plays the harmonica for brief musical interludes. Quite peculiar. At least the bus had air conditioning, although rather weak at times.

It was cold and windy that day; luckily, the trolley was heated, and the weather did not affect the tour. This tour is a great deal, priced under $40, to get a detailed overview of the main neighborhoods in and around Atlanta. These days, you will pay a lot more to drive around in an Uber or Lyft, and you won't get a tour guide giving you the history behind the landmarks you will see. The only stop made on this tour is at the Martin Luther King Jr. Center. You will have some time to explore the Center, but not enough to see everything in this area. Ebenezer Baptist Church is next to the Center, and the trolley drives by MLK Jr.'s birth home. At the time I visited, the home was temporarily closed for renovations. For a more in-depth tour of the neighborhood, you will need to return on your own.

He shared so many historical facts about Atlanta and the civil rights movement peppered in with a curated playlist of songs that correspond with the destination and significance of the area or artist. It was an absolute BLAST and we all loved it so much. I can't recommend this enough. I wish I could go again, and I will someday! It was very meaningful to be reminded of how resilient people are, especially the brave people who worked tirelessly to help African Americans gain equality, and how the spirit of hip hop connects us to this day. All seating was on top with the VIP being towards the back of the bus. Apparently they knew that someone was lost because we waited beyond the take off time for folks to show up. There wasn't much instruction given like today you will be tasting ALL the teas as we come around and give you a sip (literally a sip) ~ no sugar or honey or milk on the table. Asked for sugar as was given two packets. The food was meh . . . I can't say it was worth upgrading to the VIP as we left numerous things untouched. Nothing was mentioned as far as what we were having. It was wrapped in plastic and we unwrapped it and dug in. The placemats serve a purpose and we need more placemats or y'all need to rethink the table coating because anything not on the placemat will slide away. No rinsing cups between drinks so sip up even if you didn't like what was served. We were offered left over tea when we left but it was first come, first serve. I had expected more insight to the places we were passing by, instead I got A LOT of singing. At one point t I had to ask the significance of a statue as was met with "it really isn't important" - we approached Centennial Park and I had to let my guest know as the host was busy taking selfies with guest. I feel like we finished faster than what we had anticipated and it left me feeling like a rushed experience versus a nice tea. The food was lackluster and these extra bites didn't seem to equate to what we paid for. There were items online (such as the deviled egg) that we didn't get and we were told that the menu is t always the same. So I can say this with confidence, been there done that, got me once, won't get me again.

It was hard to make friends (keep in mind, I am social type of person) and do the things I love. I met Steve on Facebook. He was so kind and you could tell from his posts, that he just wanted to help people. I finally reached out to him and attended an event. It was an event that was the beginning to my "normal." It was the first event I attended and honestly was a bit nervous bc I have been to "meet-up" groups and well they weren't all pleasant experiences. Everyone was so nice, inviting, down to earth just good people. Everyone has their own personality, no one judges, we come together do fun events, events that help our community, we learn at these events...it's just an awesome experience. I could write a whole page!! The point is...I got involved with this group looking to make friends. Not only did I make friends, but these friends turned into my second family here in Atlanta. I've never been to Piedmont Park and I will be going back to visit. But the tour guy was amazing. He knew a lot on the tour and I will say he knew all of our names. It's hard to learn one person's name, but having to learn that seven people that were on the tour and being correct every time it was impressive. They give you a helmet and teach you from the beginning how to ride, slow down, come to fast stop so you are comfortable before you even start the tour. I absolutely enjoyed every moment of it. We took the tour last wknd, and enjoyed learning about the BeltLine project while driving through the Atlanta neighborhoods like Glenwood, Grant Park, Boulevard Crossing, Capital View, Peachtree Hills, etc. and some historic sites, too. Highlight of the tour was seeing the Bellwood Quarry which will be the centerpiece for the future Westside Reservoir Park - the largest park in Atlanta. I was amazed - not to the level like when I first saw the Grand Canyon - but almost, just b/c I never knew such a gem existed INSIDE Atlanta. In case you're wondering about the location, it's behind Marietta Blvd and right now it's fenced off to the public. They say the only way you can see it is taking this tour. Check out the photos - beautiful, right?! The BetlLine project is huge, and has the potential to transform Atlanta. They say it will ultimately connect 45 neighborhoods. I also learned that Atlanta is the one of the most underparked cities - we're at 3.8% whereas most cities are 10-15%. Check out the website to get more info on the project. The tour is a great way to spend your Friday or Saturday morning, and then grab some brunch afterwards :) They book fast and advanced reservations are required.
