This was about…read more10-15 minutes from campus (downtown Dahlonega) I attended a wedding of my friends Katherine and Chris at the winery - honestly I didn't taste any of the wine (yes I know, bad) but enjoyed myself. The venue is pretty spectacular with great views of the surrounding hills and valleys along with the vineyards as the hang of the side of the mountain. There were two aspects that pushed my opinion down a bit, neither are really the fault of the venue or business so I've stayed with the 5-stars. The wedding was held in an outdoor pavilion with great views, but during the first week of August quite hot. There are ceiling fans but they didn't help too much - I was sweltering in my jacket and tie by the time the ceremony ended (just be aware if you book something here during the hot season). The second, there are a lot of stairs as you are on the side of a mountain. If you have a hard time traversing a lot of stairs, there are other means of getting around so once again be aware. The main "hall" has windows with fantastic views. I thought the food was exceptional and wish I had taken more photos, but there were a lot of poor lighting (I was seated next to the dance area). My apologies for the missing check in and the lack of photos but I didn't want to be obnoxious at a wedding. Overall I love the rustic charm of this place and plan to return and more fully explore the wine offerings. I thought the service was exceptional with very accommodating staff, especially the bartenders.

Sadly, I arrived 30 minutes before closing so I had enough time for a glass of wine but not a time for tasting. The building and property is expensive with beautiful views of grapevine's leading up to the main building. There are several outdoor areas from which to choose to sit. The top one is covered with ceiling fans. With the threat of storms this afternoon, I chose to sit there. The view here is absolutely stunning- I can see several other mountains and the storms in the distance. The friendly host us at the register reviewed some wines with me so I chose the Plenitude. It's a blend of steel aged Chardonnay with voignier. It's crisp and perfect for a hot summer day. If you are in the area for an event or a weekend or an overnight, I highly recommend visiting both Mountain Vineyards and Winery.

Oh what a wonderful surprise and experience it was........So let's just say that I was very stunned to learn that there were so many wineries in the state of Georgia. This is how my journey unfolded on this beautiful day; I will start with Tom Ward the owner....Mr. Wine Connoisseur himselfJ Very knowledgeable and full of wisdom beyond his years. There wasn't a question that I asked or wanted to learn about wines that Tom wasn't able to provide me with an answer for. Tom was friendly, kind, attentive and very accommodating. Once we got on the tour bus, filled with snacks, water, wine and movies I was like a kid on her way to her very first field trip. We made a stop at one of his pickup locations to pick up two additional lovely ladies. We stopped and had a celebratory toast to begin our wine adventure; it was amazing. From there, we drove to the first winery "Wolf Mountain Vineyard". It was cozy, beautiful, with great ambiance. We had a quick bite (very delicious) and of course several rounds of wine tasting. Then we were off again to our 2nd winery "Serenity Cellars". This in itself was an amazing experience. The staff was remarkable; there was a wide selection of wines red and white. I am normally a sweet wine drinker, but this definitely gave me an opportunity to expand my palate and gave me a better appreciation for different wines. Of course, I could not forget the beautiful young lady that serenaded us with her lovely voice. Lastly, our 3rd winery "Kaya Vineyard & Winery". This winery was a little bit more upbeat, much younger crowd, not as quaint as the other wineries but nonetheless still good. There wines were ok but didn't knock me off my feet. Yes, I still drank it.....all of it lol. The view was amazing, one of the most beautiful rainbows I have ever seen. It was just my luck because then the second rainbow came out; first time ever seeing a double rainbow. So I said all this to say, no matter your level of expertise with wines this is the tour for you. There is something for everyone. I bought several bottles of wine and have been enjoying some and put the rest up for another time. I am a light weight so on the way home I slept like a baby while everyone else enjoyed a great documentary on wines. I am actually looking forward to doing this tour again. We also bought a wine bottle candle which was a little different ; the bottle was cut sideways. The grounds for RVs was set up nicely with an oval circle for easy in and out. We were the only ones there! Wow! Our dogs were able to run around and enjoy off leash. That's always a plus! The only thing was that the grass was not cut , but we made it work. We did hear a large pack of coyotes in the middle of the night. Epic!

I am writing this one to protect you! This is a declining resort, pretending to offer a luxury, high-end resort experience. There is absolutely no importance placed on customer service. The facilities and grounds are underwhelming for the price. It was not clean. And they do not value their guests. I spent so much money to stay a weekend with my fiancée to celebrate our engagement. We were incredibly excited. Coming home, I felt like I had been tricked out of my money. Our room was not ready when we arrived at check-in time. They scrambled to get the champagne and roses ready, ruining the surprise for my fiancée. The spa was consistently unclean: dirty towels left on furniture, stepping over empty glasses and cups everywhere, and the men's locker room looked like no one had attended it all day. Good luck getting in touch with any of the staff. They are understaffed and disorganized. Whether it was the spa desk, a restaurant, room service, management... we were constantly playing phone games, reaching voicemail, and never getting a call back. The massages were a horrible value. They were very expensive, yet mediocre, and my massage therapist talked during most of it about himself. It was not a relaxing experience. Every place we ate at the resort was overpriced and also mediocre. During our second day, my fiancée had stomach issues due to the food we had eaten. So we were unable to attend our wine tour. When I explained this to management, and tried to get a refund for the tour (or at least a credit), we had to again play many phone games before being told nothing would be done. The lack of customer service, especially for the level of service we were expecting and paying for at a "luxury" resort, is truly the most disappointing aspect of Chateau Elan. Please!! Do not make the same mistake we did, do not waste your money! Personally, I wish i'd stayed at the Hampton.
