I've been going to Julee for the past four years. Originally it was just for a haircut but then in 2022 I decided that it was finally time to get back to my original hair color and start dyeing it. I showed her a few pictures of me in my 20s and she perfectly matched my color! It felt like I was previously walking around in black and white and suddenly was in Technicolor!! Picture attached for reference. She has been so great over the years that I have referred friends to her. Julee's prices are reasonable and she hasn't hiked them significantly. She always is on time, friendly to talk to, offers water or coffee during my service, makes good product recommendations (but never feels pushy to buy anything through her) and wants to make sure that I am happy with the service. My schedule is flexible so it's been nice that she has occasionally offered earlier times when her schedule allows. She also is respectful of my time and on the one or two instances over the years when she was running behind, she's let me know ahead of my appointment time. She also lets me book several appointments out in the future, which I appreciate as a planner. Her website is great for seeing her availability and booking appointments though. I've bought gift cards off of it for a friend. A reminder email and text comes in advance of the appointment which is nice to help me remember the date/time that I booked months prior! Her location is convenient as it's immediately as you walk in. She keeps her space tidy and clean. During the holidays she has beautiful decorations. I came to Julee on December 23rd after seeing her 5 star reviews on Yelp thinking she will be my go-to stylist. She stated that she was a salon owner for 30 years which made me super comfortable and at ease. Do not get me wrong, she was so easy to talk to and had a wonderful personality but I just cannot get over the haircut that she gave me. The pictures almost don't do it justice. The top half of my hair is layered so heavily that it looks like I have a mullet. I struggle to style my hair every morning since the ends are forever flipped upwards. One of the main reasons I cut my hair was to get rid of all of the split ends and damage. Now it seems counterproductive because I have to use an immense amount of heat to stop my ends from flipping upwards. The front pieces are ridiculously longer than the back of my hair. Granted, I can see why she did that given the photo has longer front pieces. The most frustrating part is how uneven the haircut is. Why didn't I say anything before I left the salon? Well, my hair was curled so I had absolutely no idea that the back of my hair looked like that. I'm really not one to give negative reviews, but I can't contain how upset I am. I'm embarrassed to go out and too scared to even go to another salon for them to most likely have to cut it even shorter. This was super disappointing considering how long my hair was before. I trusted her to cut my hair as short as she did, unfortunately I was left with the photos I have attached. It's now going to take me months to get to a decent length so that I can go back to a salon. And a quick tip to anyone getting their hair cut: ask for them to straighten it instead of curling so you can actually see how the cut is! UPDATE: I went to go get my hair evened out at the least, the hairstylist asked me if I cut my own hair... nope but i spent $100 on it though! read more

So no issue with the my girlfriends hair cut and no issue with the stylists. My issue was that we called for pricing for a trim and was told very clearly it was $25. We were across the street at the other salon who told us it was $35 for a trim (in person). We went the obviously cheaper route to find out it was $60 for a trim after she was done. Apparently, $25 is for a kids hair cut. Why in the world would you give us a child's price on the phone when talking to an adult who says nothing about a kids hair cut??!?! Bait and switch seems about right from this place. Definitely no misunderstanding. The stylist should have mentioned pricing before starting or don't let that older man answer the phone and guess how much. Oh and I sat and waited for my girlfriends hair to be done and noticed every one who came in to get a cut was offered water and greeted. Me and my girlfriend...nope. Even though I sat right in front of the obviously to good to talk to me older man sitting there. I even asked about men's hair cut prices and he didn't even ask if I wanted a haircut today. I've been a Rocket girl for about year now (somewhere between 6-9 visits to the salon) and I've had good and also mediocre experiences. That's to be expected since everyone has off days and I sort of feel like it is my responsibility as a consumer to communicate that to my service providers. I see Julee and since she's the owner, she seems to be managing, ordering, directing and interrupted by others while I'm in her chair. I find that stressful and have mentioned this to Julee. In turn, I was able to book on quieter days and this helped my experience. ( I really liked Julee's assistant. My problem with the interruptions were other stylists, drop in visitors and former stylists, salespeople, and other staff interruptions who were being directed on in-shop signage changes, displays, etc. Julee was cool when i mentioned this and suggested one of her quieter days - that solved must of the hubbub for me.) Lately though, I've felt like I'm getting same old same old even though I have tried to vocalize a desire for change. It's always the same thing "let's do that next time." but we never seem to. I haven't walked out feeling "pretty" on my last three visits, so I guess it is time for a change for me... Disappointing because I do like the place and I think Julee is good at her craft, but I feel like she hasn't thought enough about satisfying me. :( 06/2011 UPDATE: I've heard from Julee via email about her disappointment in my review. She has offered to have another stylist work with me (no charge) and adds that she hopes it will cause me to edit or remove my current yelp. I think Julee perceives my original review as negative, but from my perspective, the yelp 3 star rating means "A-OK". I also stated that I liked the salon and that I think Julee is good at her craft and that she cares about customer concerns ( she took heart when I mentioned a problem I had being in the salon on frenetic days and she helped me to book on quieter days.) So, those are all GOOD things and also tips for future customers. We all "break up" with our stylists at some point and it is usually over a difference of opinion about what we want verses what the stylist gives us. That doesn't mean the stylist or the salon or even the experience is bad: it merely means that there are divergent opinions or understandings, or that maybe your personalities don't match. In my case, I was very clear on stating what I wanted or problems I perceived, over time, I didn't find solutions that continued to satisfy my needs. Julee has ALWAYS bent over backwards to accommodate appointments. The number of times she has squeezed me and others in -- for me, it's sometimes been a life saver. She is so busy because of how awesome she is and if she can't give you an appointment...she can't. I saw some post on here giving Julee an unfavorable rating because the reviewer didn't get an appointment. "No service no rating" -- LOL!! THAT is ridiculous. Could you imagine if we all posted such ratings for restaurants that we couldn't get a reservation for? Yelp needs to step in and that reviewer needs to take it down. I am sure that the other people reading it are smart enough to realize the ridiculousness of that review. AND how fortunate they are when they do get to see Julee! So I followed Kitty here because she is now the only one I trust to so my color. I found her on yelp at another salon and have seen her for about 6 months now. I went to get wanting a red ombre look. She completely understood what I was asking for and executed it to the fullest. I have gone through many color changes and she is the first stylist I've found that is both professional and skilled in color. The salon itself is really nice. It has a decent parking lot and an incredible beverage selection, like water, teas, soda and coffee plus every cream flavor imaginable. It seems like the staff is very diverse as well. Three words: KITTY IS AMAZING! Rocket Science far exceeded my first impression expectations. I called last minute on Thursday to see if they had an open appointment on Friday (less than 24 hours away). Lucky for me, they were able to fit me in on such short notice. Fast forward to the next morning...I arrive at Rocket Science and was offered a beverage. This gesture really peaked my interest. When it comes to customer service, these little gestures become meaningful enough to mention. Within a few minutes, I meet Kitty for my appointment. At first I was a bit nervous and embarrassed to show her my hair and ask her to fix a really terrible dye job and haircut. After taking a long thorough look at my hair, she decided she was up for the challenge. More than that, she was determined and excited to make my hair beautiful again without damaging it. During our conversation, I mentioned that one of the things I hated most about my hair was that I was not able to wear my hair down because the cut was terrible. I think the previous stylist did not understand the angled lob look that I was trying to achieve. Kitty assured me that me that it could be fixed and that I came to the right place and the right person because she is an expert at color corrections. It was in that exact moment that made me trust her completely! Fast forward a little over an hour or so and my hair is not only beautiful again, but it's shiny, easily brush-able, and I can run my fingers through it again. The colorist and stylist I had been going to for over 20 years got to be too expensive and inconvenient after we bought our house. I didn't trust anyone with my hair but them.I have naturally curly hair and it requires a knowledgeable person to know to cut with the curls. So many have cut my hair and left me with blunt cuts and a funky edge where there was once a soft curl. Julee (the owner of Rocket Science) was patient with me and so understanding of my fear.
