THE STAFF IS SO MEAN! They were rude and acted annoyed by our presence the entire time. Please don't act like you're too good for the people who provide your income. This isn't actually a buffet as they only do to-go and cannot dine in at all. Despite the very poor attitude, the food was actually delicious. If you're okay with being treated awfully, you are in for a tasty meal. I enjoyed the noodles, spicy shrimp, rangoons, and all of the chicken. read more

Tried this place for the first time. I wish I took a picture of the rice, looked good until I found which looked like a rat dropping. With hantavirus going around, this definitely made me lose my appetite. Smeared it on my to go box to see if it was rice or really a dropping. It smeared and rice does not do that. read more

My family and I relocated here in November and Rocket came highly recommended! Chinese food is one of our absolute favorites! It's conveniently located right off of the main drag in Alamogordo. There's always plenty of parking, even during the busy hours. Once upon a time, Rocket was a dine in buffet but that has changed. The owner is always present and she's so welcoming and down to earth. The food is still set up in a "buffet" style except you serve yourself in a to go tray. I love this service as it allows me to get a lot or little of different foods. Everything is always so fresh and absolutely delicious! One of my favorite dishes is the pepper shrimp! The food is weighed and it's very reasonable! read more

Everything about this place is great, the crab rangoon is to DIE FOR, and i can't be any more serious about that. They don't have indoor seating but i lowkey prefer the take out version. The lady at the front wasn't the nicest but maybe she had a bad day. It's a tad dark in there but other than that- the food is great! read more

Pickedup some food from here. The women owner there was very rude and gave me really bad attitude.( not sure if it was my skin or not) anyways...Don't go there. The food was bad, service was bad. read more

If you're desperate for Chinese food then I guess. Buffet take out food are old so if you had to go here I recommend ordering a fresh meal. There menu is as basic as it can be. Good luck. read more

Great food. Good prices. Love the chicken wings with lo mein. And the ribs too are great. Great menu will try others items to next time.

First time here. Pleasantly surprised by the quality and selection. Will visit again, next time I am in Alamogordo or passing through.

The food is great. Best chinese-american cuisine you'll find in this small town. I highly recommend anyone new to try the teriyaki chicken skewers, general tso chicken, orange beef, fried rice, and lo-mein. Reasonable price and good portions. Compared to all the 2-3 other places my wife and i tried, this is the place to order good take take-out. read more

Let me get this qualifier right out front: I don't like Chinese Buffet's and have never had one I would consider "good". In fact, some of the poorer meals I have had around this great country have been the smattering of Chinese buffets I have tried. With that said, I will now launch into my Rocket National Buffet review: I was intrigued by the name of this place as I piloted my lunar lander down White Sands Boulevard. The thing that has brought me into the occasional Chinese Buffet is the prospect of decent food quickly. Rocket National Buffet seems to have taken this approach window in their food: quality over quantity. In my opinion there was plenty of quantity, just not the acres and acres of dishes I have seen at some buffets. I was surprised at how good the food was, with a few mediocre exceptions. The included Mongolian BBQ is an interesting twist. You compile your ingredients, set them on a table by the grill and wait for someone to grill it, which generally takes only a couple minutes. Then someone comes around with the dish and presents it to each table until someone claims it. The bottom line on Rocket National Buffet? Clearly a local favorite and worth a return visit. read more

Food is ok/good.....staff is not very friendly.... Pricing is ok I guess. Good food for the location considering the slim pickings

Very good. Reasonable. Clean place and for a very small town, very busy which is a great sign. Recommended without reservations. Gear place for a small town with limited choices. Nice. Clean and a relatively good size buffet. read more

Rocket National Buffet - Mongolian stir fry. Not bad at all. - Chinese Near Me - Alamogordo, New Mexico

Disappointed that it's pickup only. But other reviewers recommend their food. So, where can you go to eat your food if you're Just passing through town. read more

Good food every time. Friendly staff. Fast service for pickup orders. One of my go to takeout places.

Usually I'm not a fan of Chinese buffet, as I prefer authentic Chinese food. My friends decided to eat here, and I'm pleasantly surprised. Food is what you normally would expect from a Chinese buffet, price is very reasonable ($8) and service is good, too. Owners speak Chinese, too. They have a lot of varieties and tons of fruits. There are some vegetarian options as well. Overall, you won't be disappointed if you like Chinese buffet. read more

Super rude customer service. The lady was making me feel like i was been annoying by asking what kind of seafood they had. Keep leaving me *they are serving your food now* by saying "okay whenever you decide let me know" on a super rude tone. Then she said "if you get two seafood side it's $2 because seafood it's expensive" I don't know what's wrong with this place but this is not the way you refer to a customer. She even left the counter while I was paying without asking me anything or if I wanted something else. I won't be recommending this place nor coming back. read more

Food was great, but wish there were more of a selection of vegetable dishes. It was my first time there, and I sat for a while before asking the wait person if I should just go up and get food. It would have been nice if the wait person explained how the buffet works before he got our drinks. The selection of food was very diverse, except there were few vegetable dishes. The fish tasted fresh, as did the other menu items. I would have rated this restaurant higher, except for not knowing what to do when we were seated, and having to go up and ask, also, because of the lack of vegetable dishes. Otherwise, the food was very good and tasted very fresh. read more

Have not had the buffet, but the General Tso and the Mongolian beef were both very good. The dumplings and Rangoon were also very tasty. Would recommend. read more

It's take out only. You can order or choose from the buffet and pay by the pound. It did not look good. I didn't eat here, and won't.

Great food and customer service. Fresh every time I've gone. Best in Alamogordo hands down.

I'm a big fan of Chinese (and yes, Polynesian) food. I've lived in four different states, now residing in NM. Rocket National Buffet has, without a doubt, the best tasting Chinese food I've ever had. Delicious and fresh. Just the right quantities of vegetables and meat. I see lots of soldiers drive from Holloman AFB to get their food there, and I understand why. read more

The food is tasty and the service is pleasant. I liked the white fish and its juices on top of a bed of white rice. Simple but very nice. The fried zucchini was something I enjoyed. And if you put a couple of almond cookies at the bottom of a cup and add the soft serve ice cream that is a nice combination if timed just right. I had written a bad review before based on one bad waiter and that was not fair to this business overall since my recent visit to this restaurant was pleasant and enjoyable. I wish them well and things are looking up for them with the recent closing of Empire Buffet. read more

Good food, okay service, AMAZING crab rangoons :) Chinese/Asian buffet is pretty popular in Vegas so when I came here I knew I had to try it. It was good for the price. Oh! I know the traffic isn't really heavy or anything but the parking is before the "rocket" If you pass the rocket you're gonna have to turn around. I know this because I did it. read more

Delicious food, wide variety and attentive waitstaff. Tons of seafood even in the daytime ! I love the Asian artwork on the tables. You can even pay extra to take some extra home which I totally love because the prices are so reasonable. read more

I really love this place for so many reasons. I am not a buffet fan or honestly a Chinese food fan either. But the people who work there are so kind and welcoming to you and the food is always delicious, all for a great price. They have a wide variety of food too so there is something for everyone. Plus it feels extremely clean which is reassuring to have at a buffet. Love love love it here! read more

Mmm...Mongolian! They're sweet tea is refreshing too! I used to love this place and was a regular. Even after a friend of ours got food poisoning we still continued to go. However, we stopped going when we noticed the gal wrapping their utensils scratch her head and snow flakes drizzled onto the utensils :( So much for one of the few places that we actually liked here in Alamogordo. Verdict: Go at your own risk. read more

Plus one for the rocket outside, and for waking up the morning after without having gotten sick. Also the price was incredibly reasonable, I think it was $8.85 each for the dinner buffet. The food is what you would expect from a chinese buffet, although every time the best dish came out (Pepper Chicken or something like that) it was inhaled by other guests before I could get up there. Also, they have a mongolian barbecue style buffet table but it wasn't staffed when we got there. We learned upon leaving by spying on other diners that if you make a bowl and just leave it up by the grill, someone will be summoned from the recesses of the kitchen to stir fry it for you. read more

As Chinese buffet's go this is pretty average. Most of the dishes that I tried were your typical buffet type food, nothing outstanding. The Kung Pao chicken lacked Pow, was rather bland, but not awful. Unfortunately the Mongolian BBQ station was not open at the time we visited. However, I will give them thumbs up on the cleanliness. They were doing a very good job of keeping the place cleaned, even to the extent of pulling out the tables to clean underneath and around. So that alone deserves a 3 star rating. Plus I didn't get sick after the fact, so a plus there as well. As far as Alamogordo goes, there aren't very many choices beyond the typical "chain" restaurants, so if you're looking for something on the local side, this is a good choice. In short, good service, clean, but marginal on the food taste. I'd go 2 1/2 stars if that was a choice, but it's not, so leaving it at 3. read more

Seafood Sunday with yummy crab legs. This place is hopping busy, things go fast but they keep up with the demand. Chinese, your doing it right! read more

For a small town this Chinese buffet was good it was family-run very pleasant very clean the food was okay nothing spectacular and seafood day was more expensive the problem being that they don't put out what they advertise which is crab legs didn't see one at all and Sunday prices are higher although the menu is not different read more

This place is so good! I can easily put away a plate of that fried rice all by myself! Awesome staff and service as well.

Worst place I have gone they can't even cook the food properly and then want to argue about it. Worst customer service EVER !!!

Good food but not enough options to eat and not enough tables. The service was ok and food was fresh (maybe it was because we got there right when it opened) but we haven't been back since the first time and I'm not sure if we'd go back. read more

We were coming back from Calif, headed to Capitan,NM. It was about 4:30 on a Sunday. It was seafood day. We stopped here on a whim. Are we glad that we did. A really small restaurant but still had a good variety of food. The food is really fresh & hot and very tasty. Restaurant is clean and the staff are very friendly. read more

I have enjoyed this Chinese spot more than the others in town! The family and their staff working here are very kind and attentive! Food is being refilled the whole time as you are eating. You can have all you'd like for as long as you'd like! Egg drop soup and spring rolls are my favorite. Great for those that want a variety! read more

Since my last review there has been a change in ownership, but still in the same family. We have eaten here three times with the new owners and..... still the best buffet in town! Can't really tell any difference. Just good fresh food at a reasonable price. The Mongolian BBQ was discontinued awhile before the new owners took over. Keep up the good food! read more

It's all relative... But pretty good for buffet Chinese food (run of the mill, but not bad). We were hungry and it was late (9:30 pm) so few options open but glad we gave it a try. Service was exceptionally friendly and because it was late, they offered to make dishes fresh for us so we wouldn't get the scraps left. They have a Mongolian bbq setup also on side back area but we didn't realize it until we were ready to leave (nor did they explain it, we had read about it). Girlfriend was kicking herself about not getting that since she loves Mongolian BBQ and liked that it would be cooked fresh. read more

Have gotten carryout from them multiple time since my first visit and it have been very fresh and very good. This is now my go to Chinese carryout place. read more

We stopped in Alamogordo overnight on a road trip. Our hotel suggested this place. We ordered takeout. It was okay. The chicken with garlic sauce had an odd flavor. The general tzo chicken we are sure came off the buffet after sitting on it for a long time. The sweet and sour chicken was not very good at all. We would probably not return to this place. Sorry, it just wasn't worth the money. read more

For Alamogordo it is considered good, the food is tasty, but just the average run of the mill Chinese Buffet.
