I hired Genny and her team to do a gut reno of my bathroom and kitchen in Manhattan, both really tiny spaces that were challenging due to the size. Not only was Genny amazing and the work great, but she honored her estimate and gave me so much of her time, knowing I had never done a renovation before. BEWARE! I was ripped off by this company. I hired them to renovate a small studio last Winter, and 7 months later they weren't even close to finished and my apartment was basically trashed. I have since replaced them with professional contractors. Rock Star understood my immediate need to move and I told the owner not to take this job if it can't be completed in 6 weeks. Rock Star caused damage to an adjacent apartment, they put up walls without insulation, there were numerous fire code violations and all the ensuing professionals I have brought in said it was the worst job they'd seen in their life. When the owner read this review she sent me a nasty next, that is how she operates. Most disturbing, she took me to Queensboro Lumber to buy wood floors with her contractor discount. They conspired to rip me off by charging me $8 sq. ft for floors that cost half that everywhere online then lied and said I bought high-end wood. Highlights of their ineptitude : * After I put brand new locks on they lost my keys * 6 Week job took 6 months and wasn't remotely close to being finished when I got rid of them. * When the bathroom was botched with faulty plumbing, crooked tiles and warped walls, the owner blamed it on the tiles and the building. The new contractors used the same tiles and did a flawless job. * Told me to get polished floors for the kitchen not honed and denied doing so. I didn't realize the dangers until after it was put down. * They excluded me from the kitchen design telling me "only we design the kitchen and the client can suggest changes". When you walk in through the front door you walk right into the kitchen cabinets forcing you to enter the apartment sideways. Every professional said it was the worst design they'd ever seen. * They ruined numerous brand new cabinets and drilled a hole through the fridge panel which needed to be replaced. Not a bad thing since the panel was the wrong size even though the owner denies it. About half of all kitchen materials needed to be replaced after they damaged them. * Two walls (half the living room) were built without electrical outlets which is a code violation; they don't know what the codes are. I guess I'm supposed to run extension cords across the ceiling to read a book? * They blocked half the bathroom window with tile (fire code violation) * Did not build the closet to my specifications and was verbally abusive when I challenged her. * They can't do basic electrical work, the bathroom was built with no electrical outlet....they forgot. * Floors are sloped even though I paid for them to be leveled. The owner said "let me handle that" She did...by screwing me. * No insulation in walls (we took apart bathroom wall there wasn't even basic insulation now we have to probe the rest of the apartment. and I paid extra for soundproofing. This was a disaster beyond words. read more

They completed the work on time with excellent quality, and kept us advised on the ongoing progress through the Buildertrend app, which was crucial as we were out of state while the work was happening. We had a great experience with Genny. We hired rock star renovation to a big project on our house. We renovated our kitchen, living room, bathroom, 3 bedrooms and hallway. Majority of the work was gutting and a complete rebuild. Our end result was above our expectation. We first renovated our basement with another contractor and ended up very dissapointed. We were then given a recommendation to Rock Star and then had Genny in our house the next day after calling her. She came into the house with an enthusiastic attitude and a lot of great ideas to add on to what we were already planning. She lead us to add parts to the project that we never would have surmised yet she always was very mindful of our budget. I could tell she was trying to make this a great renovation but was always cognizant of not pushing us beyond what we could afford. She really treated this project like it was her own house and I could see the excitement she held with approaching each part. Our kitchen involved a complete gut and we turned a closed concept into an open. She was able to put in a huge island that can now double as a ping pong table. One idea she added to the kitchen was to put heated floors (which we are loving during this particularly record breaking cold winter). All the work is high quality. Our living room floor was sanded and stained to a nice grey tone. Genny's carpenter put in a custom designed railing that looks amazing. Our bathroom is the pinnacle aspect of the project. It was gutted. Genny enlarged the bathroom. This allowed us to go from only a shower/tub to having a whirlpool tub and a walk-in shower. The painting around the house was all done with Benjamin Moore paint and looks wonderful. She took out our window/wall unit air conditioner and gave us slimline HVAC system so we now can heat/cool rooms separately. One of the more unique but eye catching part of our project was making what some would label as "catification". She put a catwalk on our living room wall that anyone that sees it first compliments it as a great looking shelf, but then are impressed when we tell them it is a catwalk. It runs the length of the wall with steps that lead up to it. She even added cove lighting to it for a little extra pizzaz. One of her coolest ideas was adding a seperate entrance to our bedroom for the cats. This allows us to keep our bedroom door closed when we have guests or when we want to just turn the air conditioner on in the bedroom and still allow our cats to come and go without annoying us to open the door. Another one of her great ideas was putting in a skylight that opens electronically and gives us amazing amount of natural light. All in all we are incredibly happy with the end result. We enjoyed working with Genny and her crew. They were respectful of the neighbors and our time. The quality is superb. I would hire her again in a heart beat for any future projects and would recommend her highly to anyone who wants a great contractor who always seems to enjoy what she is doing. read more

Once the morning of (I work very late and was up early waiting) and once the day before. 3 weeks wasted on waiting for these people. I can't speak highly enough of Genny and her team. They did my shop in February and put down a new floor, re-did all of the lighting and made lots and lots of little changes to the space. Genny is great at understanding what her clients are looking for and has a great eye for design and detail. I hired Genevieve Pavitt and her crew to turn a rotten old workshop into a terrific little guesthouse. They emptied years of crap out of it, gutted it, rebuilding the roof and front wall, rewiring electricity and heating/plumbing, installing new floors, etc, complete indoor details from start to finish. Rock Star Renovation lives up to it's name. These contractors ROCK! The finished product ROCKS! Working with them has been a pure delight. I'm an acupuncturist and they renovated a new commercial space for me. Genny and the crew are so creative and innovative. They're not just contractors, they are artists and were instrumental partners in designing my new office. They took my dreams to the next level with their creativity, skill and expertise. I was working on a budget and was pretty apprehensive and concerned about the limitations that would create, however, Rock Star made all my dreams come true AND MORE! They so know what they're doing and provided me with incredibly helpful feedback and suggestions - all of which we implemented into the design. They put up sound-proofed walls, built out several rooms, including an office and kitchen area, replaced the ugly carpet with gorgeous hard wood floors (Genny's suggestion and it's the first thing people compliment when they walk in - I was thinking laminate, so glad Genny saved me from that mistake!) and were all around delightful to work with.
