I love this store. I have visited it twice over the years and both times I have been pleasantly surprised by finding some great stuff. Years ago I bought several CDs here, two of which were hard to find at that point. More recently I bought two original pressings of vinyl records I was looking for. Love this place. I really enjoy talking to Chris and hanging out there, even though I'm from Baltimore. Great selection and great prices. They also have analog audio equipment and vintage record players for sale, which is incredibly unique. They maintenance those things themselves. For instance, I purchased a stacking record player that had some audio issues, and I just had to bring it back in to get the problem fixed. Would go every day if it was close! read more

I visited Frederick for work and was walking downtown and saw this place. I stopped in and the staff right away was friendly and helpful but not "in your face" like most places. The guys working let me wander and just check out the place which I loved vibes. I bought 5 new and sealed records from them and the total was around $85. They have a HUGE selection of records, CD's, and tapes upstairs and downstairs. If you're into music, DEFINITELY stop in. If they don't have exactly what you're looking for, there is something close to it or they'll get it ordered for you. read more

This impeccably organized record store is small, make no mistakes about it. It's the basement of a row house in historic Frederick. Like... my best guess is that it's close to 300 square feet. But MAN do they use the heck out of every square foot. The amount of records that they have in this place is impressive. The organization is methodical. And the gentleman that helped me that day was SUPER knowledgeable about the selection, records maitenance, and other stores in the area. I really wanted to add some Loverboy albums to my collection; I'd become a fan ever since I realized that pretty much the Wet Hot American Summer Soundtrack is a compilation of some of their greatest hits. The gentleman there not only found all the ablums he had of Loverboy within seconds, but he also was able to tell me the popular albums he didn't have and where to likely find them in Frederick. Overall a great experience. Prices are pretty reasonable. And I inspected each record before purchase, and each was super clean and in almost flawless condition. This shop already has five stars, but feel compelled to add my own two cents anyway. There are a lot of great record shops in the region, but this is the best. Chris is an expert curator, so you will not be sifting through a lot of junk to find the gems. His prices are unbeatable, five or 10 bucks for most of the stuff, and exceptional things are still very reasonable. He moves a lot of merchandise because of the quality and the price point, which comes not just as a good business model, but also because he loves the music and wants to get it out in the world. He also has an encyclopedic knowledge of different pressings as well as items you would not have considered. Definitely ask his opinion on underrated bands from your favorite subgenre as well as whether he has your elusive holy grail in stock. read more

I thought that I would try this location first, & I'm so glad that I did. There was a huge selection of all types of music. Stumbled upon R&R Graveyard during an afternoon visit to Frederick. I don't have a record player (I mean, again) and my parents sold my beloved LPs in a garage sale to the neighbor who had a revival New Wave band. *sad face* So I'm slowing rebuilding my collection, although of course it's not the same... Anyway, Chris has a great operation here, mainly because everything is clean and protected and well-priced. Despite the name, this place has a lot of great soul & hip hop with a small electronic section as well. There's no budget bin, but everything is very reasonably priced -- I saw stuff that would go for 20 bucks elsewhere for 3-5 dollars here. The owner is very friendly and knowledgeable as well, and was happy to point me towards other shops that stock specific styles I was looking for. The Rock & Roll Graveyard opened this past April and has been a gem in this small town. The owner Chris has worked in record shops for over a decade and is obscenely knowledgeable. I'm torn between keeping this gem to myself and spreading the word, but here it is: I can't say enough good things about this store. I grew up in Frederick back when the only quasi-consistent place to buy records was the Record & Tape on the Golden Mile (there were other places that came & went). That was great for what it was: bargain-bin digging, but what Chris has going on here is an honest-to-God RECORD STORE. The selection is fantastic, especially for classic rock as well as 90's indie rock and emo. The prices can't be beat (seriously), and Chris is just a seriously good dude who is always down to talk about any record in the store and help you find what you need. I've found several of the "white whales" of my collection here, plus a ton of stuff I didn't even know I was looking for. I try to visit anytime I'm visiting my folks. I made a point to check out R&R Graveyard after coming out to Frederick for a late morning Keys game, and man, am I glad I did. This is an "old school" basement store, like the head shops/record stores I used to visit in the 70s. I love it. I just wish I had more time to see just what was in stock. And Chris? A seriously good dude. He stopped what he was doing, just to help me find something interesting, as a blind purchase. Then we chatted for like ten minutes. Great prices. Nice variety. This is a really solid unpretentious record store with good prices. The fact that I found two Tom Waits albums in decent condition for $10 a piece means that I can't give it anything less than 5 stars. When you put together Rock & Roll Graveyard, Vinyl Acres, The Record Exchange, and Wonder Books, Frederick MD becomes a great day trip from DC to spend a day crate digging. read more

This place has it all! Atmosphere, a friendly and music savvy owner, great prices, varied selection. You would almost miss the store if you weren't looking for it nestled in the lower section of the street. I've gotten most of my best vinyl at bargain prices from the shop. Even if you can't drop some skrill on a few tracks, just chat the owner, Chris, up for a few...the man has some incredible stories! This is a wonderful place! The proprietor Chris is knowledgeable and friendly, and has quite a bit of pre digital equipment to which you can hook up a turntable! The fact that a place like this still exists gives me the urge to go on. I love the aesthetic of this place, secretly nestled below street level, the music from inside enticing you like a siren calling sailors to the rocks and speaking of rocks...this place is does just that. The guy who runs the shop is very friendly and extremely passionate about music. You could easily spend hours in this store talking music or browsing the wide collection of albums on sale. From vinyls to CDs to cassettes, this store has got it all. I was happy to see relatively smaller bands in this store, especially in the bargain section for $1! I walked out with about seven albums for a little under $30. Believe me, I could've gone bankrupt in this store. The listening area they have is also a nice, almost nostalgic, feature. I can picture myself going back here again and again not just because of the great selection and prices, but because I want to give this business the most support I can! read more
