This is going to be great journey and am really looking forward to getting started. Oh Wait...ok, that was Thursday. Friday, I auditioned and joined a band (vocals), so by Sunday, I called the Center and switched to a vocal coach. Had my first session wtih Chris McCall last week and LOVE IT! Convenient parking directly across the street. The center is one block from Main Street, in downtown Ann Arbor. Classes are 30 mins, they bill you for the month upfront and I can see why. It secures your spot with your instructor and keeps people from totally flaking out on their lesson, leaving the instructor high and dry. Schedules are flexible and the people are friendly.

So I started looking elsewhere. After a lot of research I called Grosse Pointe Music Academy. The staff was very professional and was able to answer all of my questions. All of the instructors either have a degree in music or are working toward their music degree - unlike other "schools" where apparently being in a band qualifies you to teach music! The location looks and feels like a music school, with sheet music books and an understandable billing system - a far cry from whatever was going on at the other place (Axis!) where you never saw any sheet music and you felt like the manager found the instructors by cruising local bars - "hey dude, you can play guitar, do you wanna teach?" I am excited for their June recital! I would highly encourage anyone to give them a try.

The teachers are engaging with both the kids and parents and teach us about the fundamentals of music while having a ton of fun! The location is also perfect for kids and during class the kids are free to move and play with each other and the parents. Music Together is a great program, but Hummingbirds Together makes it even better with great teachers! As my daughter ages I will look to the Canton Music Academy for additional music classes as well since the teachers are of such a great caliber.

They teach other instruments as well and offer both in-person and remote classes. Ms. Entela tries her best to schedule classes based on our convenience and scheduling needs. She is very responsive over texts/calls and is very prompt in keeping us informed about any changes in schedule due to inclement weather, etc. She is a great musician herself and she doesn't only teach music but also teaches the discipline, form/posture, and the etiquette of musicians. Mr. T is super calm, patient, and composed and is a great teacher. Little kids love being taught piano by him. Even though my kids haven't been taught by Mr. Paul but from observing his interactions with his students and their parents, he sounds like an incredible guitar teacher. Ms. Entela and Mr. T are both so good at what they do. They have a passion for music as well as a passion for teaching and it shows. I know a big part of my daughter's love for music has come from working with Mr. T on the piano. He is exceptionally attentive to details, helping kids (especially little ones) feel comfortable, and really pays attention to individual interests, ability/talent, and goals. You can tell he really cares. It's not everyday you find a studio that has both good instructors and management that embodies integrity, accountability and a willingness to meet the needs of its students/families. I'm so glad I found them when I did, It has made a big impact in my daughter's life and it is something she will have forever. We would highly recommend The Art of Musique!
