Got a cheap car from this dealer. Somehow passed inspection needing both O2 sensors, both lower ball joints and sway bar links. Swapped O2 sensors and spark plugs already. Spark plugs had oil on them when we took them out. Now I have to replace a valve cover gasket due to an oil leak, with the aforementioned ball joints and sway bar links. Sure I got the car cheap (and a discount) and it's a 2011 forester. However It's only been a month of owning the car. I'd steer clear of this dealer in the future, and advise others to do the same. read more

I purchased a vehicle at Rochester Imports around one month ago. I dealt with Bill who is the owner of the dealership. Bill seemed easygoing and gave me the keys to test drive the cars I was interested in after taking a copy of my license. Very low pressure situation. I've been involved in buying and selling many cars in my lifetime and know a variety of people in the industry. I also have a deep understanding of how different types of sales methods work. It was very pleasant to be able to go there and make a thorough decision based on my own intuition rather than dealing with a high pressure or overly manipulative salesman. At the time, I was stuck in the rochester area (I don't live there), badly in need of a new car, since my previous one was officially out of commission. Bill had the most interesting selection based on what I was looking for and in my price range. He ended up having one I liked and allowed me to test drive it several times and take it to my own mechanic to look at before making a final decision. The car needed a bit of minor TLC and I had to detail it myself, but I negotiated a final price with Bill that made me feel like I was still getting a good deal even though I had to use some of the money I saved to fix the issues myself I didn't mind that much. I got absolutely burned on buying a car from this dealer. I drive a 17 year old car and I've been on the look out for a good deal for a while. It broke down in a storm on a Thursday, so Friday I'm looking up cars and I find exactly what I'm looking for at rochester imports. I send the inquiry immediately and I get a reply Saturday morning. I call and ask about coming in to see the car and Bill says that he needs to bring it into the shop to have a rear coiled replaced first. So then I ask about later on Sunday and he said he wasn't sure the car would be back by then, how about Monday morning, which was fine with me. I'm excited about this car and I tried to show my friend the listing on Sunday but the listing had been removed. I was worried but I thought maybe more work had to be done or something. So I call ahead on Monday before I leave to make sure and sure enough he ended up selling the car to someone at the shop on the spot. He said he wanted to contact me but couldn't find my number. I was speechless. He sold the car right out from under me. I was ready to put money down a work out a deal on Saturday morning and the only reason I didn't was because Bill asked me to come in Monday but then he just decided to sell it anyway. I would understand if someone beat me there but thats not what happened. I got absolutely screwed out of that deal. I didn't even get a chance to counter offer, I was willing to bid. I understand a business is gonna make take the sure thing but the respectable thing to do would have been to give me a chance and meet on Monday as we agree. The decent thing to do would have been to inform me upfront that it was sold. What kind of business loses a phone number this day in age? I don't buy it. And we began with an email correspondence. He could have reached out, plus my contact info is in my email signature. I think he knew he screwed me out of that car and was hoping I was going to flake on the meeting. I'm not the one who flaked. My daughter was looking for a car to get to work and school. We narrowed it down to a make and model and found one on craigslist that led us to Rochester Imports LLC. I was told the car was in good shape and it had just gotten a new timing belt, so there would be a funny smell for a little bit. My daughter took it in at for her first oil change, and a virtual hornets nest was found. There was an oil leak, the power steering is leaking and needs a new rack $$$, additionally, it needs new bearings. I did reach out to Rochester Imports, and he said he would have his mechanics the a look at it, but the oil leak and the bearings "could have been damaged after the sale". my daughter purchased a car from Bill in July. The next month the water pump went. I took it to a mechanic and he said I was looking at over $400.00 in labor alone. I contacted Bill and he not only helped me with the repair, he also sent me to a different mechanic. this all happened on a Monday morning. By Tuesday evening, my daughter had her car back. Wow. So many great reviews. Wish I could add to them but my experience was horrible! My husband and I were looking for a Honda Civic for our 16-year old daughter. We saw a great deal on a 2008 model that had some minor body damage on the front passenger side. We were confident we could take care of it so my husband spoke to Bill at length to confirm all other details about the car including whether it was a trade-in or auction car, any other body damage, condition of the interior, engine, brakes, etc. We have purchased numerous used cars often outside of Michigan (our residence) and my husband and I felt confident in Bill's report and the photos he provided. Yesterday my husband and I burned a vacation day and drove 7 1/2 hours to Webster, NY. Once we arrived, Bill gave us the keys and told us to "go see if you like it." You cannot imagine our surprise when we walked out to the car lot and instead of finding the car in the pictures, we found a piece of garbage. The car was obvious not a "trade-in" - it screamed "auction sale!!" Bill's artful photos had cleverly omitted all the other things wrong with this car, missing paint, scratches, scuffs and a bumper you could pull of the car with one tug. The interior wasn't much better but the real kicker was the thick, sticky red substance in the back seat cup holder which looked like someone had poured a slurpee in it. As we looked around at other cars on the lot, it was plain to see that most of the vehicles had been purchased at auctions. It's usually pretty clear to tell the difference between a trade in and one that's sat on an auction site! And did I mention that when we first arrived, Bill was sitting at his desk in his stocking feet watching on-line auto auctions. Hmmmm. BTW, we thought Webster was nice little town and we had an awesome lunch at the The Beer Hall. And P.S., the Honda we looked at is no longer listed on the website. On Saturday I found a car on Craigslist and that Tuesday I drove it home. I have only good things to say about working with Bill at Rochester Imports. He responded quickly to my messages and questions and was friendly from start to finish. I called about seeing the car as soon as I found it online and was able to see and test drive it the day after, on a Sunday. I took it to Cole Muffler (just around the corner from the lot - also a great experience) for a buyer's inspection but could have brought it into the city to see my mechanic if they'd had an opening. I felt zero pressure to buy. The process was clear, easy and fast. To date, I would buy a car from here again and recommend it to family and friends. The only challenge was finding the lot the first time because it's tucked back behind a building, but ask for more details before you go and it'll be easy! read more

If you need a used Subaru, Rochester Imports is the place to go. Bill is a super nice guy, with a good selection of cars for a small lot. He isn't pushy at all and doesn't try to butter you up and lie to you like most car salesmen. Very honest and trust worthy. I would not go to purchase a car from Bill. While it looks like he holds a lot of the Subaru inventory in Rochester he failed to make sure the one I happened to be looking at would pass inspection before putting it on his lot. After a couple weeks of looking at it I took it to a mechanic to do a pre purchase check. The mechanic found and physically showed me all the things wrong with the car. Bill wants 5,500 for the car and it was going to need at least 4,000 in repairs. The exhaust was two bumps from falling off near the converter, front breaks and rotors needed replaced, front axle seals were leaking, rear differential was leaking, lower control arm bushing was totally messed up, and one of the head gaskets was screwed up. These are things that on a Subaru around 100,000 miles need to be checked and/or replaced. He did not do this while telling me the car was perfectly fine but he was dumbfounded as to why the car wouldn't sell and was surprised to here about what I found. I would not buy a car from him but if you are checking out his inventory make sure to take the car to a mechanic for a pre purchase check. the 45 dollars for the check saved me from wasting more then 5 grand on the car. read more
