Horrendous owners who have exactly ZERO respect for their faithful clientele. They ruined my plans to propose to my girlfriend at the restaurant (and that the owner's wife knew, in advance, that I made reservations there specifically to propose to her). A bit of background on how this all occurred is worth knowing: For more than a year and half, my girlfriend and I had frequented Rocco's. Unlike the patrons the owners allow to sit at this formal, sit-down Italian restaurant with inappropriate clothing, my girlfriend and I always showed up with the proper (now, as I see, undeserved) respect. We always were dressed formally (I always wore a suit and tie, no exceptions). I tipped the staff very handsomely (at least 50% on any bill we had). I was, at the time, happy to do so, as my girlfriend and I have regard for family-owned restaurants, especially an Italian restaurant that - we thought - had respect for its own operation as a truly Italian, family-owned, formal restaurant. We were last at Rocco's approximately three weeks ago. At that time, we introduced ourselves to the owner's wife, had what we thought was a very friendly and warm conversation (though we made most of the effort in this regard). We lavished her with praise on how much we enjoyed the food and appreciated having an opportunity to dine at one of the few allegedly and truly Italian restaurants in the area. Further, we ingratiated ourselves with the wait staff, had a great time laughing with them and carrying on, etc. When the night concluded, I tipped 100% of the bill (more than $200). The staff members (including the owner's wife) were hugging us and laughing with us as we left that night. Sounds like a great place, right? Wrong. I decided to propose to my girlfriend just before Christmas. Given that my girlfriend and I had our first date as a couple at Rocco's a year and a half ago, as well as the incredible time we had there just three weeks earlier, I decided to propose to her there. In an effort to make this go smoothly, I called Rocco's several days in advance to make a reservation and spoke to the owner's wife (who we had a long and great conversation with just three weeks earlier). I reminded her of our recent visit and she immediately remembered us. She seemed very happy to hear from me. I told her, right at the start, that I was planning on proposing to my then-girlfriend and wanted to do so at Rocco's as close to Christmas as possible. She said, "that's great!" and asked me when I wanted a reservation. I asked for Christmas Eve, but she indicated that they would be closed that day. She recommended 12/23 close to 8pm instead. She confirmed a reservation for 7:45pm, which sounded great to me. She asked for my phone number, I gave it, and she read it back to me. Also, I asked the owner's wife to reserve a specific table (the one that my then-girlfriend and I had our first date at Rocco's). She told me to call a few minutes prior to coming in for the 7:45pm reservation to make sure that the table was available and, if not available, it would likely be only a few minutes until it became ready (so that we would not be waiting inexplicably in their small bar/lobby area, likely for COVID considerations, which was fine, of course). The day of the reservation, my girlfriend and I went shopping for new clothes to wear at Rocco's that night. She got a gorgeous dress, beautiful high heels, had her hair done -- she looked amazing. I dressed in a newer suit and we headed out to Rocco's. It is now just shortly before 7:45pm a day before Christmas Eve and with virtually no other restaurants open at that time in the area. I called as requested. The owner's wife (or someone who sounded very much like her on the phone) disinterestedly tells me, "sorry, we decided to close early." After I reminded her that she and I spoke specifically about this reservation several days earlier, she started shouting over me. I hung up. She then had the unmitigated gall to call me back and shout that she had stayed at the restaurant that evening to give out gift certificates to all the patrons whose night Rocco and she had decided to ruin. Really? What is this? The Olive Garden? Pizza Hut? I declined. If I were Rocco, I would be so ashamed that I would close the restaurant permanently. Disgraziata. read more

There is a lot to like at Rocco's. I am a big fan of their steamed clam appetizer. I think the red meat sauce is as good or better as any of the many Italian restaurants I have eaten at in New York and New Jersey. The bread they give you for the table is rather tasteless and bland but the rest of the food was fantastic. This is an old school Italian restaurant with Dean and Frank playing on the radio, I person playing piano by the bar. I have been coming to this area for 15 years and only found out about Rocco's last year. There are a few decent restaurants in the area but Rocco's Ristorante is the best. read more

This is most certainly the best restaurant in the Tri-State area and in my opinion the best restaurant I've ever been to (even better than those in Italy itself). If you take into account the live sax band, beautiful interior, gorgeous full bar, and huge wine selection; along with the massive portions, reasonable prices, experienced wait staff, and, of course, unparalleled flavors that they offer I just don't see how you can come to any different conclusion. Rocco's is simply the best. Granted, I worked here for 4 years, so I may be biased. However, if you've ever worked some at a restaurant before, you probably know that you don't usually adore that place when you leave, but I certainly do. I've had the pleasure of sampling every single appetizer, entree, special, and dessert that is offered here, and they all are just absolutely fantastic. Go, and order your staple dish that you order anywhere else. I bet Rocco's has a better version of it. Then go and try something you don't normally have. I bet you'll have a new favorite dish. Keep going until you've tried everything here. I promise you won't regret it. Oh, and another thing that I actually love about Rocco's. Despite the fact that they would certainly be classified as a fine dining establishment, they have no dress code, they don't take reservations, and their portions will feed you for two or more meals. These are qualities that not many other fine restaurants can claim, and these are qualities that make Rocco's uniquely West Virginian. read more

As far as food goes in Huntington, WV, this is one of the top 3 (the other two being Savannah's and The Black Hawk). It's one of the only restaurants in town that serve half-portions. I've never had a bad meal, and have actually adapted to a technique of simply opening the menu and ordering whatever my eyes fall on first. You can't go wrong here--it really is delicious. The staff is very attentive, and the atmosphere is very romantic, although you're likely to see families stroll in with their kids because this is a "nice place" in the middle of a pretty backwards town. Nevertheless, if you're looking for a romantic place for a date, or some pricey, delicious Italian food, this is the place to go. Can't recommend it enough. read more

This is clearly a local favorite. It was highly recommended by locals, and it was packed on a week night. The atmosphere was great. The staff and "regulars" had a good rapport. As for the food, it was fine. The bread was average, served with cold, hard butter packets. The side salad had basic greens with too much dressing. The ravioli was good, however, it was floating in the cream sauce - and I did not order soup. All in all, a good experience but the food is average. read more

My husband and I were on our way to Williamsburg, VA......We were on the road for a few days as we are from Lafayette, Louisiana. I looked on Yelp for a restaurant and found Rocco's. We read the reviews and decided to stop for dinner. This is definitely a diamond in the rough, the best Italian food I have had in a long time, the service is great and loved the atmosphere. The owner and his daughter work in the restaurant, so you get the personal touch. I recommend anyone new to the area to stop in and eat a really good dinner. I have to say after eating and drinking a few glasses of wine, I did not want to get back in my vehicle and drive.........oops, I wasn't driving.....my husband was driving! This place is amazing! I had lived in the area for a couple years without ever visiting. I didn't regret it once I did! Price wise it is pretty expensive. But I had the best alfredo I've ever had! The shrimp tasted exactly like lobster. I didn't expect such amazing seafood from a simple Italian place in Ceredo. We did have to wait a while to be seated, but they were pretty busy and they seated us the second they could. The employees were all very nice. read more

This place has amazing Italian food. I got Fruit of the Sea, that has a mixture of shrimp, scallops and muscle on a hairy spaghetti. All pieces of this meal were gigantic in size. I liked the taste. So I basing this experience on my food and the experience I had on one visit. I went here with my wife and step son. We waited over an hour to be seated, which I'm only complaining about because the expectations that were given to us was 30 minutes. So I wish better expectations could have been set. I ordered a Lobster Ravoli which I was really looking forward too. I'm not a fan of onions and this meal was caked with onions. I wish it mentioned it on the menu and I would have ordered it without onions, but I didn't have a chance. So I barely ate any of it. I know this place has fans and this was my only experience. My son and wife's food was great, they loved it. Maybe we will give it another try in the future. read more

Service was good. Sauce is excellent but the negatives outweighed the positives. It's way too dark in the dining area. I don't want it bright but turn it up a notch so you can see the menu and what you are eating at least. Bread they give you is plain, tasteless and not very good. Half plate menu may be half a portion but the price is not half the price. Regular prices are $15-$18 and all half portion plates are $12. Very disappointing that you cannot purchase a single order of tiramisu.. If you want it you have to purchase a portion for two at $12.50, therefore I was forced to pick something else. I got the lemon cake which was not moist at all and tasted like it had been sitting out for a couple of days. read more

This is THE Italian place in the Huntington area for those looking for utter indulgence. The sauces are tasty and plentiful in the American fashion (you get less sauce in the Old World, I've learned), and more than once I've taken the remainder of my meal home in a box. In the pasta department, the restaurant's strongest suit, I have a slight preference for the tomato-based sauces only because the cream-based sauces are quite rich, as are the desserts. The establishment is very popular, and not all that large in capacity, and as a result you WILL have to wait if you don't arrive at the start of the dinner hours. Once you're settled, however, the service will be sweet and attentive. Allow some drive time if you're staying in downtown Huntington. read more

We love, love Rocco's! This is our "go to" restaurant for celebrations or just a great meal. Rocco's has never disappointed us or our family and friends. The spaghetti is tops and the lasagna is, too. When our daughter comes into town from Florida, she loves Rocco's salmon! The staff is like family and will never steer you wrong. We drive 50 miles each way just to eat at Rocco's. I don't think I need say anything else.

The good parts: the food was delicious and the service was rushed and snooty but attentive. The not so great: The restaurant is very dark and when I sat in my chair I discovered the seat had water on it as it got all over my leg and bum (and I was wearing a dress so it was extra gross). The dimness was fine other than I couldn't see what I was sitting in because my husband and I were having a dinner out for our anniversary. It was our first time here. The neighbors we had in front of us were so loud and obnoxious he and I couldn't talk to each other and the waiter couldn't hear my order so it was wrong. I don't fault Roccos for that though in hindsight I wish I'd have asked for a different table. The best part of the meal was the garlic bread. The salmon dish was okay but not worth the price (and side note...it's ultra embarrassing to have to ask the waiter prices of the specials even if he offers). Both pastas we had were worth the drive. If we ever go here again we'll stick with basic pasta and garlic bread. You can't go wrong with those! read more
