    Pasta Mama Theresa

My girlfriend & I stopped at Rocco's on a Saturday night when the whole town was busy. The quaint dining room was only half full & nice ambience for Riverhead. Even though it's a pizza place I really enjoyed the Italian food. The server was nice, the prices were reasonable & the food was good. Type of place I would go any day of the week.

    The rolls were so good.

We were at the outlet mall, and googled for a pizzeria. Up came this place. We said to each other.. An Italian place named Rocco's? We checked yelp, and said... Let's go!! We liked the landscaping on the outside of the restaurant, and it was very clean on the inside. We were seated right away. Our server, Cassie, was very friendly and helpful. First up was a basket of warm, yeasty, rolls, with an EVOO with a balsamic "R" for dipping. Very good. We ordered the small cold antipasto. Fresh mozzarella, ham, provolone, salami, roasted peppers, artichoke hearts over iceberg lettuce. When it came, we had to ask... "This is the small?" It was *YUUUUUUUGE!* The meats and cheese were savory, and the pickled veggies that came with it were also very nice. Next item up was a large salad. The salad was very fresh, and it came with a creamy italian dressing. For our pasta, my partner had the penne bolognese with big dollop of ricotta. You choose the sauce you want, and choose the type of pasta you want. She said it was very good, and the pasta was al dente, just the way she likes it. I chose the Mama Teresa. Peas, prosciutto & mushrooms in a light tomato cream sauce. I chose spiral pasta, which was also al dente, and the spirals captured the tasty creamy sauce so well. We brought home some of the antipasto, and quite a bit of our pastas, because the servings were so huge. My pasta made a second meal for me, and my partner had a second and third meal. All this food and 2 sodas came to $51 before tip. The amount on the check and the credit card slip were different, and when I asked why, I was told that there is a 2 percent discount if you pay cash. Basically, a credit card surcharge. It's mentioned on the check, but I didn't see it. Other small businesses do it as well. It's how they pass on their credit card charges. If you want delivery, they are also on the "Slice" pizza delivery app. Maybe the next time we will try the pizza. We enjoyed our meal. Thanks!!

Great pizza! The waitress was so sweet and we had a lovely dinner! The personal size pizzas were perfect!

I ordered one regular slice and a grandma slice. Nice crust on both. Both were a little greasy. The staff was warm and friendly

Food not always consistent. Some days good knots, other days they are terrible. No vegan options. Disappointed.

All of this, yet the food was still quite good despite all the misfortunes and mis-steps. I don't even know how to rate them ... 3.5 seems right, so do I go 4 stars for the solid flavors, or do l go with 3 because the pizza needed a third ingredient for complexity and a lot less grease, the white bean soup was made with red kidney beans, and the meatballs were in an ounce of this sauce... But that short rib pie could be something really special, I added a balsamic drizzle, even great with some horseradish. We definitely want to explore the menu more, am I right? I had a couple of slices that were nice and thin, crispy and very flavorful. Dean, who is making the pies and doing the cooking, busy as he is, is one of the friendliest guys you will meet in a Pizza place! He says hello, welcomes you, and makes sure you know something about his offerings. Sure, its a small place and sometimes they are very busy and do not have all the time in the world to chat, but ask any question and Dean is happy to help! Maria is soft-spoken and kind, and the food is always top notch. Service can be slow at the counter, they have been understaffed a few times while I was there, just Dean and Maria. But the food is worth the wait. On another night, eight of us ate in the dining room, which is very attractive, and the food was excellent! We will be going back in a group again - especially after the Cruise Nights at East Wind in Wading River. Pete G.

Well when they arrived on time for a 5 pm reservation and a couple clearly with no reservation bullshitted the hostess while they watched that couple was seated ahead of them. So as that couple was being seated by the hostess the owners partner asked my daughter if she could help them, as she fumbled to find there name because she realized what had just happened, they were told it would be about 10 more minuets. with no room at the bar they were directed to wait on the porch. No further contact was made just employees with major attitudes walking past and ignoring them. After 45 more minutes they were finally seated. What was supposed to be a relaxing evening without the little ones became an unpleasant experience. So when they came to pick up the kids, I called and got the owners partner on the phone and told her what happened and she said to me with an attitude what do you want me to do about it? we've been there many times and bought many gift cards over the years and I think you should give her a partial credit or a round of cocktails next time, so the owners partner was very rude and advised me that that was not ever going to happen And click she slammed the phone down and hung up on me. Well that's all fine and dandy in the land of basic cheese, but if you're looking to step things up a bit, then come on over to the Cheese And Spice Market! This tiny shop has been a spot I've visited several times now, the last trip coming about a month ago when my girlfriend, her family, and yours truly were interested in checking out the Shoppes at East Wind. Alas, due to these current times, many storefronts have shuttered their doors leaving only a few specialty locations still open. One of them? This cheese market (so get going!). Well, it's not all about cheese here as they also sell an assortment of local goods (pickles, spreads, sauces, oils) as well as some teas and a few other eclectically edible/drinkable options. But the biggest reason to enter is for the cheese. Now it might not be the grandest selection, but even so, CASM collects a pretty wondrous assortment of cheese styles, milk bases, and variations from all over the world. Costs are on par with just about any other place selling speciality cheeses (I matched up a few prices at Uncle Giuseppes for legitimacy), but keep that in mind because this...ain't no basic Swiss (sorry for the rhyme). But honestly, beyond the quaint interior, awesome food items, and stellar cheese selection, the real reason I'm gonna slap some five star love on this spot is due to the staff. Each time we've set foot in the Market they've been extremely welcoming, accommodating, knowledgeable and always quick to offer us a taste of any cheese we had interest in. No cheese snobs around these parts, and better yet, they're brutally honest. Case(s) in point: We were told that a local cheese, which had cost more than a similar style, wasn't worth the difference in price because we'd just be paying for the fact that it's from Long Island; it's not any better than the other, cheaper cheese. Also, I sampled a super stinky/funky cheese called Red Witch that one employee stated how much she loved it while the other said he couldn't stand the stuff, so it's nice to know you're not being taken for a ride when you come in here. Overall, the Cheese And Spice Market is a legit shop that checks off all the cheesy boxes. You'll find a great variety at similar prices to other places along with spectacular customer service which makes the whole experience that much more enjoyable (and tasty). So if you're interested in taking a walk on the wilder side of cheese, check out this spot and give em some business to keep them running. Cheese please!
