I started…read moreworking out with one of the trainers, Lauren (also a good friend of mine, full disclosure here) last July. So basically, you do extremely heavy weights extremely slowly. You totally max out your muscles until you quite literally can't do anymore. And then sometimes, you want to hurl. And often, extremely foul words fly out of my mouth while working out with her. Actually, this morning, as I was doing leg press I think I said "Dang. I sound like a dude" because I did. You know, the big burly dudes at the gym who grunt and sound weird. Me, this morning. I have seen pretty cool results from this. I do weights once a week with her. You heard me - once a week! And my muscles stay really nicely toned. Now, you have to eat right, and do some cardio too, this isn't a magic workout that suddenly gives you a perfect body, but especially if you're a female, building muscle mass is very important. This is a way to do that without spending hours at the gym, or even having a gym membership for that matter. But you also can't be a big wimp and quit. Gotta trust the trainers and push yourself. I lovehate it. But I keep going back so I guess the love wins. Oh and they will work you out for free the first time. So if you're just curious, you can try it out and see what you think. I know, I sound like an ad for this place, but I really think it's good stuff and I feel great about myself when I see that I'm doing more weight, or going longer on a certain machine. And I love that little muscle that runs from my shoulder down my arm that is all nicely defined now!

Amy has also helped with variations on my other workouts to get the maximum benefit and is always keeping up with "what's trending" in workout and nutrition. I highly recommend Amy at Kelly Personal Training, and having been around the facility for a good amount of time, feel all the trainers are top notch. It is a very personalized work out. Ginny V

Most of all I was impressed by their professionalism and skill with guiding their clients through the weight training circuit. There is a very precise methodology and protocol that they are following. I liked it and found benefit to each of the components of it. It's clear that the program was very carefully and painstakingly thought out. Training for this job must be intense. The workout was extremely strenuous, especially when you have been there a while and built up some strength. Having sessions a half hour long is totally appropriate when you are working as hard as you do there and making your way thought the machines at a very efficient pace. Another thing I really appreciated about the trainers here is that they both clearly seemed to have a degree in exercise physiology. I have worked with several trainers before and the ones that actually studied this in college are far more effective. Being so attuned to athletic performance the trainers can tell when you are getting to your limit and can help to push you on. They're great at motivating so you can squeeze every last drop of strength out of your muscles. That said, they also are totally respectful if you need to take a breather, get water and let your heat rate come down a bit. As an out of shape person looking to build muscle for the sake of my health- I felt comfortable here and did not feel judged or that the trainers had any opinion of me being unfit. They were only kind, accepting and motivating. This has not been the case with other trainers I've worked with before and it is noteworthy. They get a gold star for professionalism. I would have liked to continue on but my financial situation changed and I needed to focus resources elsewhere. The cost for sessions is high but it is also worth it for the the amount of focus the trainers put into your work and the fact that it is 100% private.

Over the past few months, Carmen's work with me has significantly improved how I feel throughout the day. With her training, I've discovered entire groups of muscles I never even knew I had. Mainly in my back. Building them up has made keeping decent posture easier throughout the day. That's my primary goal and it's clearly happening. I hold myself differently and feel more comfortable, especially at my shoulders and lower back. My lower back pain is gone. I sleep better and feel more confident walking around. Carmen has a real intuition for the body's movement, reminding me of my ballerina sister. Carmen can tell just by watching when something is off. I had had breast cancer and several years later, uterine cancer. My diet had gotten really out of whack and I had gained about thirty pounds. In addition, my balance was terrible and I fell all the time. I had spent so much time in bed that I had very little strength or stamina. Scheduled a call to review my needs and was able to get into Eric's schedule for a Friday assessment. The gym is quaint and quiet, I've driven by a million times. The parking is a bit odd, a few spots up front where you have to reverse onto S Lamar when exiting...sooo that can be a challenge. They have parking in the rear of the building which is great however there is a single entry way and well, not sure how multiple cars could park and get out. Just know your reverse skills need to be on point. The gym inside has everything you'd need and since it's not open to the public it's just the clients and trainers. That means no waiting for machines and no one looking at you while you're there. Eric is great, he's very easy to talk to and made the whole experience easy. Upon arrival we walked through the questionnaire filled out online to find out the why behind the personal training inquiry. He then did a body scan for weight and fat %, took blood pressure three times as well. Gave a quick tour of the gym and how things work then it was onto the physical movement assessment. Nothing too crazy, range of motion and flexibility tasks. Took an hour for the initial visit and came back the next day to finish a few small exercises then learn the warm up needed prior to sessions. No membership needed as you buy the session in backs, 5, 10, 20 and can be used how you want. Like that there's no long term contract to sign. Session will start in the next week or so with focus on building/repairing the base/functional imbalances before getting into the fun part. Time will tell how this goes, wish me luck!

Fifty50 studio's space is bright, airy, spacious with an intimate atmosphere of reformers across their space. Walking in we were greeted by the welcoming front desk, checked in on the iPad to see our station spot. Pro tip: bring your grippy sticky socks as you'll need them for the reformer machines, but they do have some socks for purchase should you forget. I'm a grippy sock fanatic and love their offerings! I snagged spot 2 and it worked out that I would be facing the mirrors, as spots 1-6 are facing the mirror and where you sit you can see yourself and maintain good form and technique! Melinda was such a great instructor who explained the machine, the technique and also offered hands on correction and more for all of us showing up for ourselves on a 7am Friday Pilates class and it was such a treat to see the sunrise as we wrapped our 50 minutes. Each spot is very thoughtfully spaced, and with the welcoming support, I can't wait to return for my next class. Ps. As they're in their welcoming grand opening timing, classes are free til Dec 31! And the founders membership isn't too bad to boot. And they're close for us NW Austin/Cedar Park folks! What's not to love about giving yourself time for health?

I've gone to a few personal trainers and I can Tell you that Martin is dedicated to helping you get in shape. The weekly early morning workouts starting at 545 each morning doesn't phase him. He does his part and making sure he's there every morning. With that kind of dedication, you have to try it for yourself and give him a chance. I can tell my body is still burning calories after the workout and I don't feel like my body is dead tired. The best part about it is you can go 5 days a week and at $52 dollars a month, it's a good deal.
