I have never written a Yelp review before, but made up my mind to do so for Brookfield Eye Care because my service was so outstanding. I am a recent transplant to the Chicago area. I loved my eye doctor back in Kansas City and thought I probably wouldn't find anyone I liked as well as him, well, Dr. Setterlun blew it out of the water. She and Vicky were warm and welcoming and capable. I felt welcomed and in good hands, as they really seemed to know their jobs well. It was one of the most thorough eye exams I've ever had, and all the while, Dr. Setterlun was explaining to me why we were doing what we were doing or what to expect from the test. And when the exam was over, Vicky was very knowledgeable about my insurance (as well as kind--she talked to me like I was an old friend), and I felt like I was in great hands. Prior to moving to Chicago, I worked as a standardized patient for a medical school, evaluating med students' bedside manner and capabilities, so I've become used to watching doctors' with a critical eye, and I have to say that Dr. Setterlun knocked it out of the park. She was fantastic at patient care and making me feel informed, comfortable and at-home throughout the entire visit. Lastly, to give you a concrete example of what I am talking about: I arrived about 15 minutes late to my appointment this morning, and I believe I might have been the first appointment of the day--which I know can screw up a Dr.'s schedule for the rest of the day. Neither Vicky nor Dr. Setterlun did anything to make me feel guilty. They were nothing but kind and soon, I was feeling welcome and relaxed. I could NOT be happier at the new eye doctor that I happened to pick and I can't wait to tell my loved ones back home that I've found my new eye doctor with whom I'm in great hands. I will be going to her for as long as I'm in Chicago. 10/10 will definitely go again.

Her methods are old-school to some, but I've been to the computerized shops and they suck. She takes the time to do a thorough examination. As for how long the appointment takes, that's the nature of the exam. It takes your eyes time to dilate, so yes, you need to sit and wait while that happens. Bring your phone and play solitaire or something. My eyes are super important to me and if getting a thorough exam once a year means being there for an hour or so, I'm going to do that. If you're in a hurry, go see the computer eye exam at the mall.

I always enjoy my checkups (ok, maybe not the glaucoma puff so much, but even that is not too bad on the machine she has). When my daughter was having sudden vision concerns, she made sure to find a quick opening in her schedule to make sure there was nothing harmful going on. The staff is always top notch -- very helpful and considerate. I highly recommend Dr Laura Giancola and plan to continue to see her until she retires.

The service I received from Dr. Luckhardt and Dr. Maze over the years has been excellent. In more recent years I've seen only Dr. Maze and have been very impressed by his knowledge, care, patience with questions, and ability to explain what is going on with my changing eyes. I highly recommend this practice. They have handled my routine eye exams very well and have handled my contact and glasses needs as well. When I've had emergencies, they responded quickly and with care and knowledge. Some of the people working in the office are a little bit quirky, but it usually added to my appreciation of my practice and enjoyment of my visits as I got to observe the dynamics. They also do vision therapy which I think is very interesting. Overall, I think this is a great place to go for your vision needs!

We were at a…read morepediatric eye dr. and circumstances with my youngest having been diagnosed with a speech issue while trying to rule out obvious causes due to hearing or speech, Dr. Maze was referred to us. The decision to make was do I want my 3 children at 2 different Drs.? I switched them all and it was BEST DECISION I made!!! My oldest was was diagnosed with convergence insufficiency which also included divergence, tracking and scatagorical issues. This was not a vision acuity issue it was a ocular motor disfunction. She was in second grade and we had seen some deficiencies in her comprehension and test taking, thankfully now we knew why. She went in for comprehensive vision therapy and even spoke to her teachers!!! Dr. Maze and his staff helped my daughter overcome and strengthen her eyes. Thankfully after such a good experience I was able to see early signs in the other 2 children as well, and we were able to do some early intervention with Dr. Maze. He is professional, approachable and compassionate. My oldest is now 12 and he has been a very important and supportive role in my children's lives for the last 5 years. I will never switch eye drs. and I refer him often!

Then he…read moresaid that maybe he did not set the settings right and why don't I come back another time to get it rechecked. Then he increased my prescription from 5.25 to 6.50... it had only been 18 months since I had been to the eye doctor. Once I was using the increased prescription I no longer could see things close up. So, I went for a second opinion. My eyes are perfectly healthy, no eye disease of any sort. And, they decreased the prescription back down to 5.25 and I can see perfectly far away and close up. Also, Dr. Nista's equipment appeared very dated and they got my insurance benefits wrong.

I took my wife and kids here, and they are beyond amazing for getting your annual eye exam, getting the right contact lenses, frames, and the right lenses. I usually veer towards bigger stores as I thought they would have more to choose from, but I was actually quite surprised by the selection here at Kami. The staff made sure that my wife and kids got the right lenses, fittings, and more. Good service is hard to come by, so I'm definitely coming back here for myself!
