Was finally trading in my favorite car which I'd held onto for 11 years. Problem was that my beautiful Q7 wasn't blowing cold air, and I knew that I was going to take a real hit on trade-in value. For a very reasonable price, Rob was able to get it blowing cold again with a recharge. I can't tell you how long that lasted, but it was still good when the appraiser turned on the AC that afternoon, saying "A lot of these, the air conditioning doesn't work any more." I'm guessing that the money I paid Mike was recouped 5 times in that transaction. Mike, I appreciate your making it happen, and making it happen quickly! read more

Rob is very responsive, and he provides better service than the Hyundai dealers I've tried.

Speedy service and no BS. Let me know my issues, estimation, time frame and more than a fair price. I investigated a number of other shops which were considerably higher. Will definitely be returning for any further needs in the future. read more

Brought my car in urgently for a screeching sound everytime I stepped on the gas or brake. I was able to do a last minute walk-in and he found the issue promptly and then didn't charge us for it since it was just a rock stuck. We will definitely be coming back here, he seems to take great care of his customers! He could have totally charged us just for utilizing his equipment and time, but very graciously did us this favor. It's much appreciated and reduced a lot of stress! Thank you Rob! read more

I went in to get a noise in my car diagnosed as I drive a far distance for work and wanted to be sure my car was running correctly. I received a diagnoses quickly and a clear breakdown of costs. They did let me know the total cost of a complete fix, but gave me an alternative that would still keep my car running well but avoid any completely unnecessary repairs. They got my car fixed within 24 hours and communicated with me during the entire process. I'm very appreciative of the expertise and customer service I received! read more

Did work in a professional timely manner. Advised me of what didn't need to be done until next inspection. Price was very reasonable. Ask for AAA RATE. read more

Rob is a very straight forward, honest mechanic. I've had to have work on my vehicle multiple times and he's always given reasonable prices. I also super appreciated that the one time he wasn't able to properly service my vehicle (required glass removal), he was honest about it and directed me to the appropriate place to get it serviced. read more

Rob's Automotive is the BEST! My air conditioning was not working and after searching on line, I knew immediately where I was going to go. Rob is AAA approved; has been on the job for 40 years; had lots of positive and current reviews; showed me the problem; told me the cost of the condenser, and gave me the full price, plus labor and the car was ready to go very early on the day it was repaired. Heavenly cold air greeted me when I stepped into my car and now am ready for summer. Thank you, Rob!!!! read more

Mr. Rob was very professional and found the issue with my car on why it wouldn't always start. He order the part needed and immediately contact me to drop off my car. He fixed in a timely manner while my kid was at school and was done before lunch time. He for sure saved me from having to sell it and go into debt with another car. Hands down I recommend his shop to anyone in need of car repairs. read more

Took my 2003 Cadillac Seville to Rob's Automotive to have work performed that was diagnosed by another local and well reviewed shop. The first garage diagnosis was a bad alternator and the cost to replace $950. Paid the $110 fee and decided to take the vehicle to Rob's Automotive for the repair. Shortly after dropping the car off for the repair Rob called and advised the warning light came on due to two burnt brake lights and the Alternator was not the problem. Rob replaced the two brake light bulbs and everything works correctly! He charged under a $100 for the parts & service. Thank God for an honest, competent and professional mechanic who has earned my appreciation, respect and recommendation for any vehicle repairs. Get it done the right way the 1st time and try Rob's Automotive. read more

Rob is without a doubt the best, most honest mechanic I've ever met. I've been going to him for years now with all of my cars. I'm finally getting around to letting everyone know how exceptional he is after having several horrible experiences at a Toyota dealership. Rob never recommends unnecessary repairs. Only actual, needed repairs are made. His pricing is usually half of what the dealer charges without the up sells. He can repair anything, old or new. People like Rob are rare. He doesn't need another 5 star review from me. He's always busy. I just wanted to let everyone know that guys like this actually exist. read more

Went there with several issues with my newly purchased SUV. Rob was very professional and accommodating. There is no BS here. He told me the issue and quoted it. Car came out fixed perfectly at EXACTLY what he estimated it at. We found another issue that was a leaking water pump. That will be replaced early next week by Rob. I will be bringing ALL of our cars here from now on. Excellent service, great pricing and HONEST. I'm very glad to have brought my car here. I realize he doesn't often work on Land Rovers but he was able to do the job perfectly. read more

Super professional, efficient, and knowledgeable. I needed to get an overall diagnosis of my car's condition before taking it for a smog check. I'm very happy with my first experience at Rob's! I have a 13 year old Mustang that still feels new to me and it's important I trust whoever works on her as she ages. I had a mechanic that I trusted, and still trust, but Rob's Auto is in my neighborhood. Rob was friendly and professional. The mechanics in his shop are seasoned. They checked my car out thoroughly and I left the shop understanding the 5-star rating. The prices were competitive and didn't make my wallet bleed. The lot is also secured so you don't have to worry about anyone off the street having access to your vehicle. I have to concur with the other reviews: fair, honest, good prices, great service, and trustworthy. read more

Nathan was truthful and caring in getting our car fixed and passing smog check. Took longer than we had hoped but he did it right and works beautifully- also gets such good gas mileage. Love Rob! I was recommended to him by my sister and I'm so glad I finally found a mechanic who was upfront with his prices and exactly what needed to be done. He even showed me the parts he took out and explained what the issue was. As a woman, it's so frustrating to go to mechanics who straight up lie to you about cost and what needs to be done because they don't think you know better. I know some about cars and how to fix problems by myself, but I don't always have the time to do repairs and I'm glad I know I can trust Rob to help. read more

I was having some issues with my engine and cam carrier on my Subaru, and the dealership quoted me an astronomical price that didn't seem to make sense. I called Rob, and he was able to answer my questions over the phone and give me a fair price. Not only that, he did an excellent job on my car and had it returned very quickly. I can't thank Rob enough for saving me a TON of money and doing such a great job! read more

Called Rob based on good reviews and good location. Straight shooter. Nice guy. Honest. AC wouldn't work, told me to come by he'd check it out. Told me what he thought was probably wrong and would cost a couple hundred to fix if it's what he thinks. I told him sounds great. Didn't go back and forth and this and that and yadda yadda. Fast forward 6 hours later, phone rings, it's what he thought. Fixed. Come and pick it up. Fair and honest. Made it easy. I'll come back here for sure. Thanks Rob! read more

Rob is the only one I'll take my car to. I've known him since I was in diapers - he and my grandfather used to run a shop together when I was little. He's trustworthy which is something I need since I know almost nothing about cars. I recommend him to all of my friends and always have a card in my wallet in case of emergencies. He's a great guy who has fair prices and does fantastic work. read more

Rob's Automotive - Go to Rob's for your vehicle's needs or else! - Auto Repair Near Me - La Mesa, California

I have an antique BMW and have spent a fortune on repairs at various BMW garages throughout San Diego County. I was having some electrical problems and was reluctantly getting ready to have it towed back to one of those garages. When I called AAA, the Customer Service Rep mentioned that there are AAA approved garages in my area (La Mesa) that could work on it. Rob's Automotive was one garage she referred me to. When I called, Rob was very professional, personable and willing to check it out. To my surprise, and delight he was able to fix the problem at a very reasonable rate, and even did a couple of other minor repairs that I was not expecting. I highly recommend Rob's Automotive. He has integrity, honesty and does great work! I will also be bringing my Toyota Tacoma TRD to Rob's for service when needed. Thank you very much Rob! read more

Rob is always very friendly, professional & knowledgable. I love that he takes the time to explain to me what's going on & what he needs to do. He works quickly & I fully trust him. Love love love Rob's Automotive. Our family's been going to him exclusively for years & he's always been fair and provided excellent service. Besides the dealers when my car was new, and the occasional oil change at Walmart, I've used his shop since I started driving 14 years ago, even when he moved locations from Santee to La Mesa. I recommend everyone I know to Rob when they ask for a shop. He'll break down prices for you, how he came up with them and give you options as well as let you know what things can wait & what things he can rebuild or temp fix if needed. I've always been pleased with the work & prices. read more

Got my starter replaced a few days ago and Rob was very informative and helpful when updating me on the repairs. Highly recommend if you have AAA insurance because you get discounts on parts. He even fixed my car key and cut off an overhanging plastic part from the bottom of my car (something that has been annoying me for months), for free! Amazing service, will be sure to come back again. read more

We have been taking our cars to Rob for years. It is such a wonderful thing to have a mechanic you like and trust. I always know his recommendations are valid. WONDERFUL people! Usually get ya right in and they don't rip you off. Very honest and up front about any questions you may have. Was quoted $500-$600 from Monroe Muffler to replace two brake lines and Robs did it for a quarter of the price!! Will continue to give them my business from here on out!! Don't see many honest mechanics nowadays but these guys you can definitely trust. They are a family owned business also-the woman that works the desk and answers the phone is very friendly and makes you feel very welcome. So nice to run into people that aren't rude and arrogant. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! read more

My regular oil service mechanic wasn't available and I needed the work done on my Honda Element SC today. Rob's Automotive was close, convenient and well-rated on Yelp. I called and was told to 'drop on by'. Within 45 minutes of my arrival I was back on the road. Rob and Hector were fast, friendly and efficient. They checked the tires, fluid levels and more. The cost was comparable to my former mechanic's price for the same service. read more
