Passed by this place sooo many times on the way to other restaurants at Cedar Key. Always saying- one day we will give this place a try. Friday was the day. Let me just say that we went for lunch and I really want to give this place a 5 for the food. But- my rating had to take into consideration a few things: we were coming here for lunch- this is super casual and inside decour is outdated- but the establishment is a place to buy fresh fish and a restaurant second. A few patrons were eating- we were seated right away and our orders taken. Food came out promptly and WOW- honestly the best fish meal we've had in a long while. We said to ourselves- why did we wait so long to eat here? I know why, (other restaurants here have the view of the water) -but their entrees don't hold a candle to this place. Do yourself a favor (I'm clapping while saying this),eat here first and after go out to the other restaurants on the key to look at the water... This food tops all of them over there hands down! Great little place, amazing very fresh and delicious seafood. Our server was a super nice young guy who was right on top of everything. He recommended the chowder of the day which was made with grouper and clams - very yummy! We each had the seafood platter. It was tasty, with lightly breaded grouper, shrimp, and oysters. We came here to pick up fresh seafood while we were staying the weekend in Cedar Key. Since we were hungry we decided to have lunch. They have a huge AYCE lunch that can challenge even the biggest eaters. There are a few choices so you're not just eating one protein. The vegetable choices were delicious too. On the other side is where their little store is that has fresh fish, scallops, and we got lucky with soft shell crabs. Later that evening we lightly dusted and fried the crabs, and had delicious grouper. This is a great find and I highly recommend eating here. Had the grouper chowder , fried grouper and peel and eat shrimp. My only negative is the shrimp were not deveined. However they were pretty darn clean. We went here for lunch. It's about 15 minutes from the middle of town, so depending on your schedule, it might make a better stop on the way into Cedar Key. That being said, the best things about the lunch were the wonderful fried shrimp and the homemade coleslaw. That is what I should have ordered. My soft shell crab sandwich was a board special that included soup. Since they are in season and I asked if they were fresh (not frozen), I chose that for my lunch. Soup of the day was lentil so I went with the other option which was (red) grouper chowder. The chowder was tomato based and mainly chunks of potatoes with the tiniest flakes of fish and no fish taste and no pizzazz at all. It definitely needed something and no addition of salt nor hot sauce really helped. My soft shell crab was just okay -- small and again no real flavor. The cole slaw that came with it was very good, however. My husband went with another board special -- choosing an AYCE fried sea bass and fried shrimp. He had the same soup. It came with hush puppies that were over cooked and greasy. I stole a piece of his shrimp -- they were lightly battered and very good. Skip the sea bass -- another thing without taste. So I guess it depends on what you order for how you'll view this place. At least now I won't feel I've missed something. read more

I ate here again last night, for the third time, and introduced a friend from New York to the wonders of Robinson's. He loved it, too. By far, they have the best fried shrimp in Florida or Georgia that I've had yet--and I lived in Savannah, Georgia, too. What's more, they often have all you can eat fried shrimp, which comes with cole slaw and hush puppies plus either lima beans and rice or a grouper chowder. I always get the chowder and it's great, plus the fried shrimp and hush puppies are so fresh they're too hot to eat when they first come out--you have to wait a minute for them to cool. The shrimp are local and sourced from Robinson's own shrimping boats, as they run a wholesale and retail fish market, too, plus a fishing charter business. The restaurant is small, but perfect at what they do and the service is always friendly. Considering that all you can eat shrimp is only $11.95, it's a whale of a deal, too. In addition, they have other specials and some regular menu items. One of the places I simply cannot recommend enough in Florida, honestly, it doesn't get any better than this! read more

We've been going to Robinsons for two years. The food is always excellent, at reasonable prices. Their 'All You Can Eat' specials are the best deal in Florida. The business is family owned and operated, by people who truly care about their staff and customers. My personal favorite is their chowder. They also have excellent raw oysters.. They are the only restaurant in Cedar Key that has not had a staff member come down with COVID-19 . They wear masks and require clients to as well. Exploring the island of Cedar Key and we decided to travel back a few miles to this place we saw on the way in. A small Seafood Market/Restaurant off the main drag into/out of town. No Alcohol.... in case you were wanting .... They do have some ice tea and soft drinks to offer. Friendly wait staff and comfortable tables and booths on the restaurant side of the house. The 'Specials' board is easy to read, offering All You Can Eat Seafood for $13.95: Fried Shrimp-Mullet-Sea bass, offered all of one kind or your choice of combination, includes Cole slaw and Soup of the day/or Grouper chowder, or both. I chose the fried Shrimp and Sea bass. ( Not a fan of Mullet !) The kitchen is fairly fast, especially since we were the first table to order today. Our grouper Chowder was served steaming hot with small bits of fish, tomato bits and LOTS of cubed potatoes. A little salt and hot sauce added to give it some body and it was fine. The hush puppies were mostly corn meal and they absorbed maybe a little too much of the cooking oil. My Shrimp and Sea Bass was brought out and looked good. The Sea Bass was two thin fillets and again with some tartar and hot sauce, was more pleasing. The fried Shrimp were Great! The Cole slaw was great! If you stop in, I would recommend just the Fried Shrimp and Cole slaw. read more

Reordered fish and shrimp, both of which were very good. Crab cake was good, not great. Hush puppies are sweet but laden with grease. My wife had cream based clam chowder and I had grouper gumbo. Both were good (3.5/5). Fresh fish market next door. Would like to try their smoked mullet fish dip. Probably will grab some from the store on the way off the island. read more

We weren't able to visit last time we were in the area a couple years ago, so we went as soon as we arrived today. Great experience overall, and I have to say that as good as the food was, our server Kiersten really put it over the top! The service was excellent, she was attentive without being annoying and didn't hesitate to give up her honest opinions on menu choices when we asked. My wife and I both got the AYCE shrimp & crab cakes, and she also tried the fried mullet. Everything tasted fresh and we loved the breading they use. Three times I've stopped here, and all three times I've been underwhelmed. The seafood is decent enough but no better than any of the numerous other fried offerings in Cedar Key. Undercooked frozen French fries, fried balls of jiffy cornbread to pass for hush puppies, and a Tbsp of coleslaw rounds out most "dinners". Today took it all as I paid $29 per dinner for five small stone crab that I couldn't eat. The waitress said we would have to crack our own, but didn't mention she couldn't provide us the tools to do so. Then we were graciously offered Ken's honey mustard salad dressing to go with it!!! I'm certainly not expecting a four star experience, but Mr. Robinson, you can do better. If not, take stone crab off your menu and stick to selling them by the pound in your market. read more

One thing is obvious: Having the owner working in the restaurant makes the difference. The dining room is tidy, the kitchen is clean, the seafood is fresh and the service is personable. Each day has all you can eat specials that include beans and rice or chowder, coleslaw or baked beans, shrimp or choice of two fish, and hush puppies. The fried seafood comes out so hot it's practically hissing. Ditto the grilled seafood. The coleslaws a favorite with crisp cabbages and a slightly sweet dressing. The beans may change -- Lima or reds -- but they are good. The limas with ham are part of the area's heritage so go for them. I prefer the mullet but some folks go for grouper. But mullet is Florida's mainstay so go for it. The hubby likes the fried shrimp which come out lightly coated with a golden coating. They are large and plentiful. And if you have room try one of the home style desserts. My preference is the refreshing Key Lime pie. Our fave appetizer is fried blue crab claws. And the tea is cold. And unending. Finally ate at the restaurant and I was a little disappointed frankly. Steamed clams were a shame to Cedar Key, steamed to death and rubbery, with no briny goodness left. The clam chowder was okay, not as rich as I would've liked and was extremely undersalted. We had the all you can eat fried mullet, shrimp, and crabcakes, which were all pretty good. My review is based on my limited experience at Robinson's. I went here not to eat in, but to buy fish from their small market right next to their dining room. While staying out in Cedar Key, we were going to do a fish fry for family, so we stopped by Robinson's before arriving. They are about 20min or so inland from Cedar Key. When entering their market, it didn't smell fishy at all which was a good sign. We purchased a couple pounds of grouper and some of their homemade tartar. They packed in some ice to keep the fish fresh for the remaining trip. The service was quick and friendly. When we got around to pulling the fish out to cook, we were impressed at how fresh the fish was. There wasn't any fishy smell you sometimes get when getting fish that isn't very fresh. It also tasted wonderful, and was the best quality fish I've ever eaten. The tartar was also well received by the rest of the family. It's worth stopping by for the fresh fish. read more

I began buying property in Cedar Key in 2009 and Robinson's has been my favorite restaurant in the area ever since. Just tonight the all you can eat special for $18 was shrimp, oysters and mullet. Mullet is my favorite and it is hard to find on most menus in the Cedar Key area and impossible most places outside of Florida. The service was just fine. The lima beans and rice soup is the best and I have never seen it anywhere else. There is a retail seafood shop right next to the restaurant so you know you really getting the best. Everything is ALWAYS FRESH. And the prices are lower than in town. My advice is stop in on the way into Cedar Key on Highway 24 (the only way to get to Cedar Key) and ENJOY. I bet you'll come back! As for ambience, it is fine too. And access off the highway could not be handier. You park right in front of the place and walk in. I have noticed good waitstaff there too. And they seem to be there long term. No demerits with Robinson's. read more
