California burrito
Danielle F.

I wanted to try a new spot nearby to compare California burritos. I landed on this one today and I was pleased. I spent about $14.30 ordering online. It was ready in about 10 minutes. Inside is cozy and gives sports bar vibe but still taco shop comfort. They had a small salsa bar with 4 options. I tried both the hot options. The roasted one was my favorite, very flavorful. Burrito was enjoyable as well! Meat was flavorful and tender. Guac was good and generous. I was overall happy but wouldn't say it was the best I've had. Better than most in the area though. Definitely will come back for a decent and convenient burrito. Employees were nice as well.

I wanted to try something new and Robert's was nearby so I thought I would try them! It seems like they have multiple locations in SD, and I was never aware of its existence. I was able to pick up and place an order on the phone. The food was ready in about 10 minutes. My usual orders are carne asada chips, burritos, and a taco. I do think some of my chips were pretty stale, but the portions of the food were plenty. They had a mini sauce bar, but other side condiments like peppers were an extra charge. Overall, I'd give this about a 3.5 stars for the taste and quality.

This place is a local gem! We stayed at a hotel in Mission Valley and fortunately the front desk employee recommended Robert's Jafor a quick and casual place to eat. We ordered a surf and turf burrito and took it back to our hotel. The burrito was big enough to share. The carne asada was well seasoned and the shrimp was generous and perfectly grilled. The cashier was so friendly and welcoming that we decided to return to hang out at the bar and talk to the locals.

Came here to grab an early dinner after visiting Ikea. The food was good. The salsa will clear your sinuses! Flavorful and decent portions. It's an order at the counter place but they bring your food out to you. Inside is small but clean. There's also patio seating.

I'm not crazy about the isolated location across from the Mission Valley library and the IKEA, but otherwise, I don't really have any complaints about this place. The menu seems very simple and streamlined, which cuts down on confusion and hesitation when ordering. I got the pollo asada tacos and made it a combo. The food itself was outstanding. Like the menu, the tacos were just chicken and a generous heaping of guacamole on top. Not a real fan of the double soft tortilla shells but that did prevent the tacos from tearing once I added the rice and the refried beans onto the tacos. Good portions too. Not too light, but not too heavy. Just right.

To start the owner was so welcoming. That made my day. My husband and I walked over here yesterday. There were plenty of seats and draft beers. Honestly, it was a vibe. But the best part was the fresh, flavorful, and fantastic meats. Cooked to perfection. Juicy combined with all the sauces. Literal perfection. LOTS AND LOTS OF FOOD. Perfect for foodies. We are about to be regulars. I promise you that!! Check them out & enjoy!

Always quick service and tasty food. Can never go wrong with this place. They are open early and the staff here is very friendly. Cali burrito and beef tacos are my go to here, their horchatas come bottled and delicious when you add espresso in it. They also have a salsa bar that is always full and clean.

Al pastor torta...are half already.

Couldn't figure out what I wanted for dinner and stumbled upon this place online. Ordered the torta for some reason and HOLY CRAP. It weighed as much as a newborn baby! Al pastor was good, better with the salsa added in but everything tasted fresh! Somehow was able to eat the whole thing. Definitely recommend!

Had breakfast here with hubs after church. Restaurant is located near IHOP and Coldstone Creamery and was moderately busy as we arrived. They featured a variety of sports channels and had a bar where you could sit and watch said channels and enjoy an adult beverage. We walked in and ordered our food with the cashier and within 10 minutes our food was delivered to our table. I ordered chorizo and egg scramble with side of potatoes, refried beans and corn tortillas. Food was quite hot and all tasted great. Beans were quite good, creamy and fresh tasting. Good ratio of chorizo to egg scramble and plenty leftover to take home. Hubs had the steak and egg breakfast burrito and said it was absolutely delicious. We will be back!

Can't really tell but it's all carne asada jerky type chunks..fries were re-heated..

This is my 2nd or 3rd time here. The food is normally pretty good. Got the half order carne asada fries. Not sure if they just didn't like me but the fries are old and the meat was crunchy burned :/. Service was ok I could tell that was maybe the owner but he didn't really care about service just what you want to order ok bye. There's a lot of taco shops this one eh I dunno maybe it's just me..

carnitas tacos

A new favorite place to go to for mexican food. Been here three times now with the food tasting great every time. Carnitas tacos, California burrito and rolled tacos taste as you'd expect and want. The 7 sea soup is something I wouldn't normally get but was delicious. Their salsa always taste fresh and have good flavor and variety. The workers are also very nice. Will be returning soon to try more dishes. Easy parking and very chill spot to grab a bite.

Beef and fish taco

I will say the tacos here were pretty good. It is hard to believe just how expensive tacos now are in San Diego in general. Tacos used to be a cheap dinner/snack. I got the potato taco and it was filled well with the mashed potatoes and the flavor was delicious. Loved the crunchy shell. Service was fast and efficient as well as friendly. Nice little taco shop and I finally went there. I'd go back.

Rolled Tacos
Cheerly C.

Not a bad spot for Mexican food. Would've liked the cheese on the rolled tacos to be more melted though. The carnitas burrito was juicy and not too dry. They have a salsa bar too which is aways helpful. I'd definitely come back to try other items. If you want to dine in, they have several tables and a bar where you can watch the game. Parking is plenty!

For my last couple of trips in, which have all gotten me into Sean Diego early afternoon, La Puerta is normally one of my first stops as their afternoon happy hour is second to none and offers 50% off appetizers, quesadillas and cocktails...so it's a no brainer! I have sampled my way through the cocktails and appetizers, and while everything is tasty, my favorite cocktail is easily the Gin & Juice, and tastiest appetizer is the cochinita flautitas with the chipotle sauce. While I am not a connoisseur myself, my friends love this spot for the impressive variety of liquors, especially good quality tequilas and whiskeys. The G&J is floral from the hibiscus, earthy from the aquafaba and hominy and then classic from the citrusy gin and lemon. A perfect, well-balanced and delightful cocktail! The flautitas are perfectly fried mini taquitos that are filled just enough with the goods and queso, then a quick dip in the chipotle sauce does them good! Service was solid from entry to exit. We were after a table originally, but saw a few spots at the bar, so we bellied up there. The bartenders were friendly, knowledgeable and fun to interact with. The space is gorgeous, super vibey, clean and well kept. Absolute perfection that holds to the theme, but also speaks to the neighborhood. Overall, La Puerta always finds itself on my "to do" list when visiting San Diego, and for good reason!

This is my first time dining inside this California Burrito Restaurant…read more I was driving around in this area and I saw this California Burrito Restaurant and I wanted to give this place a try. I enjoy eating authentic Mexican cuisine. I parked my car in their parking lot then I walked inside their front door. I talked to the owner Caesar and asked him How long has he been in business at this Starling Drive location in San Diego, CA? Caesar said he's been operating his California Burrito Restaurant business for 20 years now. Caesar also said to me that he works with his wife and grown children at his Mexican restaurant every day. My order was placed by Caesar today for my lunch time meal at 12:30 PM. I ordered one Beans and Cheese Burrito. The price is $7.50. Then I had to pay a tip of 20 percent that came up to $1.25. The tax was $1.50. My total purchase today was $9.25. I had to wait at least 30 minutes later until my order number 109 was called to the front counter today. There was non stop walk in customers coming into this California Burrito Restaurant at the lunch hour between 12:30 AM to 2:30 PM today. Their majority of their customers were of Mexican descent and I saw only 3 Black People placing their orders with Caesar today. I was the only Asian person ordering from this California Burrito Restaurant this afternoon. I also noticed 2 Nurses picking up their orders today who work for Sharp Memorial Hospital today. This man and woman nurse were of Caucasian descent. It's interesting for me to get to know the population of people who are living nearby this Starling Drive location. Caesar called my order number 109 today. Then I was served a really HUGE Beans and Cheese Burrito. I also drank cold ice water today. It was a beautiful day today because the weather conditions were very cool and cloudy. I sat down at this window seat so I could see the outside. The Beans and Cheese Burrito was very tasty the beans were refried and thete was a very generous amount of shredded cheddar cheese. The Tortilla was heated up and slightly toasted. This Beans and Cheese Burrito was a HUGE Size. I wasn't sure that I had an appetite to finish eating this Beans and Cheese Burrito but the flavor was amazing! I kept taking small bites on this Beans and Cheese Burrito for my lunch time meal this afternoon. I also received excellent customer service from Caesar and the rest of his family I saw was working very hard in the back kitchen area preparing and making their very popular Carne Asada Burritos. I also saw Caesar and an older lady sweeping up the floor and also mopping up the floor inside their front entrance to their California Burrito Restaurant Caesar told me to come in again soon to try their Steak Carne Asada Burrito.
