Leonardo Paints Another Masterpiece. Dr. Hutner is the master of the "Mona Lisa Smile." I have been seeing him for maybe nine years, and he is a truly great dentist. I happened this time to have a fridge set to 30 degrees, so my frozen strawberries stayed frozen; that is mostly defrosted, but one must have had a spot. And that spot just tore sheered a quarter of my incisor off. Word to the wise: Strawberries are harder to thaw. Also, be careful with shelled nuts and dried fruit, especially dried peaches, which often have bits of pits. So, in came Dr. Hutner as if a Renaissance artist. He looked at the tooth as if he were looking at a chunk of marble, and gave me the options: either a crown, for which insurance would only cover 50 per cent, or a composite with onlay, for which insurance would cover 75% (and cheaper in first place.) I asked his opinion, and he said the composite with onlay should work. See, he didn't push the more expensive option. With a tooth looking like a calving glacier, I expected some true pain. Believe me when I tell you I felt not even 1% of it. The doctor knows how to work my teeth and what angles are best. Ann, his assistant, is cheerful, patient, and quick with instruments. When the mirror came to my hand, for a second I thought that I was looking at the wrong tooth. The job was so perfect that I didn't notice any difference - except the old one had some yellowing, but not the new one. Here is a master tooth artist. P.S. Ever since I was referred to and started going to Dr. Hutner on a regular basis, my teeth and mouth have not had any issues and irritations. I've done checkups, cleanings, xrays, scaling, extractions, and whatever else and have had a pleasant experience. If you anticipate and kind of discomfort during your procedure and let him know, he will complete the procedure without you even noticing anything at all. The office is convenient to the C line. If you're driving and are lucky enough, there are free 2 hour parking along the sidewalks. You're in good hands if you go to this office. They'll work with your insurance to get what you need done and minimize costs. read more

Made an appointment last year for a cleaning and was beyond impressed with the staff and Dr. Hutner. He's incredibly personal and and his staff was kind and friendly. Stephanie was incredibly helpful with getting my dental records and answering my questions. My first appointment with Dr. Hutner was great, I had not been to dentist in 2 years and he was so attentive and listened to my concerns I had about my teeth and was reassuring that my teeth were in great shape and very honest with me. He also did my first cleaning dental cleaning which was really thoughtful. The dental hygienists are amazing, so gentle, and efficient. Regarding COVID-19 procedures - I didn't want to give up my routine cleaning during this pandemic so I kept it. I was sent a detailed email on directions to call two or three days prior to my dental visit for a pre-Covid screen which took less than 3 minutes. I arrived 5 minutes early and called the reception and was told to wait until they instructed me to come into the building. I was given another screening at the office entrance where they checked my temperature and brought me straight to the treatment room. (These details were listed in the email sent to me prior to my appointment) I felt safe and comfortable while getting my teeth cleaned and my hygienist was so attentive and practiced excellent hygiene during my visit and there was plenty of hand sanitizer. I really appreciated their call to attention and detail to make my cleaning go as smooth as possible during these crazy times. It's always a pleasure to see Dr. Hutner and his team. Really fantastic. Stephanie, the receptionist is totally on it- got my long ramble about a tooth problem, relayed it to Dr. Hutner and he fixed my issue SAME DAY. Dr. Hutner explains what he's doing in a professional yet calm and personable way. Office itself is extremely clean and inviting. I am having my two teens see him for cleanings and any work that needs to be done in the future. Finally, I know it's not about dentistry but the view from the office is outstanding! Dr. Hutner is incredibly objective and puts the patient first. He does not rush into procedures if they are not necessary, and cares deeply about the well being of the individuals he works with. I once had some scans taken that are typically covered by most plans (except mine as luck would have it). Dr. Hutner, not realizing this, reimbursed me for the expense without any questions asked. Dr. Hutner's staff is outstanding, from a wonderful secretary Sarah at the front desk to excellent dental hygienists (that even motivated me to floss!). I went to a dental practice once in Copley Square and was told that I had 15 cavities. They suggested filling each and doing braces. I wanted a second opinion and visited Dr. Hutner because my friends RAVED about him -- and he was wonderful. He told me I had 2, but almost 3 cavities and filled them in. He also told me more about how to avoid having more problems in the future, and he didn't hurt me or make me wait. I couldn't be happier. When I moved to Boston I tried a couple of dentists, one of whom said I had 4 cavities and I had never had any prior to that visit (30+ years old at the time). Since I was skeptical, I waited six months for my next checkup and decided to go to Dr. Hutner who was recommended by friends in my church. Gratefully, it turned out I didn't have any cavities. His staff is also wonderful (Angela is my hygienist) friendly, and very helpful (worked with my insurance on a claim for my sons broken tooth). Five stars! read more

I really liked Dr. Hutner and his staff while I was a patient, but since leaving his practice I've had some pretty nasty dental issues that should have been treated sooner. I was a patient for about two years, and at my first visit, Dr. Hutner mentioned a shadowy area on my X-ray under a filling. He said it was a bit concerning, so he was going to keep an eye on it and be sure to do X-rays every six months. I had three full sets of X-rays with him, and he never mentioned this spot again so I figured it was no problem. I left his practice because I was moving out of state, and about two months after moving, my filling in that "shadowy" tooth fell out, and some of my actual tooth broke away with it. I went to a new dentist, and turns out over half of my tooth was decayed and requires a crown, which I have to postpone until my insurance will cover it. I also had five other cavities in my teeth, at least two of which were severe and had been there for well over a year (it had been six months since my last cleaning and X-ray with Dr. Hutner). After reviewing the X-rays and seeing photos of the decay, I'm confident that my new dentist isn't ripping me off, either. Since my new dental plan has a waiting period for restorative work, I had to pay over $1100 for dental work that could have been taken care of over a year ago when I had full dental coverage. Dr. Hutner is a really nice guy and I feel like he and his staff were always very thorough, so I want to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume that he was just trying to save me a copay until he was sure that restoration was absolutely necessary. Despite this, given the severity and amount of dental work that I had to have done after leaving Dr. Hutner's practice, I would not recommend him. read more

This is my first time going to a dentist in MA and Dr. Hunter and his team was wonderful. The hygienist that cleaned my teeth knew what she was doing and was very gentle. She even gave me helpful hints on how to floss my teeth since they are so close together. Dr. Hutner did a few fillings for me in the weeks to come and he was very informative before he started the process. He was gentle in my mouth, and asked me questions to keeps me comfortable as he worked in my mouth. Overall, Dr. Hutner and his staff were very friendly and made my experience as comfortable as the dentist can be. Although I've been in Boston for 13 years and have always traveled home to NYC to my regular hygienist, I will no longer be traveling now that I have found Dr. Hutner and his team. Went to stupid Gentle Dental and was told I had three cavities that needed to be treated with a potential extraction. Went to Dr. Hutner for a second opinion only to find out that I had ONE cavity. Dr. Hutner treated that one cavity and I didn't even need a root canal, nonetheless an extraction. Everyone who works at Dr. Hutner's office is super nice. You can tell that Dr. Hutner is the best because there are a lot of younger kids that frequent the office. You know that the dentist is good if many parents trust their kids in Dr. Hutner's hands. I despise the dentist with a passion and visiting Dr. Hutner was the first time in 2 years that I had been (I know, gross). I'm absolutely terrified of the dentist. However, Dr. Hutner made the experience painless. My filling was completed under 40 minutes despite how bad it was. He also took extensive time within those 40 minutes to perfect my bite. I hadn't had any dental work done in over 15 years, not even a cleaning, so I was pretty nervous (scared to death), but I finally had good coverage with Delta Dental and the state of my teeth was getting critical. I asked around at work and a co-worker recommended Dr Hutner, and that he had found him after a concerted search. I'm now coming up to my 5th visit in 3 months! We're talking multiple extractions & fillings, maybe a couple root canals, then some sort of bridge (I told you they were bad). Dr Hutner did a full set of x-rays with a machine that scans them all at once, then spent a great deal of time discussing various options for treatment of my teeth in detail while we looked at the X-Rays on a monitor right from the chair! This is modern dentistry at its best! After bad experiences many years ago, I had thrown in the towel, figuring I'd die with no teeth rather than take another chance with dentists that looked in my mouth and saw their next BMW. If I had found Dr Hutner 10 years ago, I probably would still have many more teeth today. So far (needless to say) I'm very happy. Even though I have very few back teeth in my mouth, I have no more pain, and for the most part the work, both extractions & fillings have been painless. Sure there's some pain, that's how it goes, but Dr Hutner's care and skill puts me completely at ease. It's a war zone in my mouth and so far he has taken every hill and won every campaign with no casualties. His staff is really friendly and speak very highly of him and his dedication to dentistry, spending long days both seeing patients and staying up on the latest procedures to help save the teeth of his clients. He even does cleanings when necessary to meet the needs of the business! I've never heard of such a thing. Now that's dedication! I'm very happy and while I may never look forward to going to the dentist, I'm getting there.. literally, and consider myself very fortunate indeed! read more
