It's a pharmacy where everyone knows your name :-) They have plenty of medical necessities for ourchase such as creams you find in the hospitals (calmseptine) to locally produced items such as candles and Nola apparels. I usually come here to fill a prescription that other "retail" pharmacies do not carry. Today they only had a few of my pills left in stock. They filled what they had and will call me next week to come get the rest. How nice! I really like that old town feel that we are currently missing! I hope everyone can come support their locals. I think my prescription may be a few dollars more but worth it for supporting my local pharmacy.

Then the guy behind the pharmacy counter asked me if I was picking up meds- and I said "no, thank you very much for your good customer service" and then I looked at him- a man would like to hand me medicines for my very ill husband... unmasked. Then I looked around and all 3 of the employees I saw in the store were unmasked. I understand people's desires for freedom, but I also know the burden of dealing with long term effects of viral illnesses- and I know the burden of caution for someone I love who is highly vulnerable. It isn't something I would wish on anyone- and I don't just wish- I know my actions to prevent the spread of illness matter. I'd think a pharmacy next to the hospital would do better. I've seen this at restaurants and grocery stores- but a pharmacy?? Put a sign on the outside "attention- employees at the store don't wear masks- if that's cool with you come on in. If you are visiting ting someone at the hospital with a high infection risk or have a high infection risk yourself- shop at Walgreens" I would've gone elsewhere.

The store needs some TLC conditionally, and a little bit more attention to cleanliness wouldn't hurt. Service was super friendly and welcoming, which was a redeeming quality for this location. Overall, solid 3.5, but the cashier really made our day. We wandered in for a soda and drink, and got what we were after, but if we needed more than that, we would probably go elsewhere due to price point. But again, this spot came in clutch when needed.

My prescription for Nurtec ODT 75 mg, taken every other day for migraine prevention, had an active prior authorization approved on June 18, 2025, valid through June 18, 2026. Beginning in December 2025, I was repeatedly told by Ponchatoula Family Pharmacy that no authorization had been received and that my physician had not responded. Based on that information, I contacted my doctor multiple times over several months, only to be reassured that the authorization was already approved and active. Despite this, the pharmacy continued to deny the medication. After months of back-and-forth, I requested that the claim be fully reviewed and reprocessed rather than relying on the initial rejection message. It was then discovered that the prior authorization had been active the entire time. Once properly re-run, it was approved immediately. This was not a physician delay. It was a failure to verify and process an existing authorization. As a former pharmacy technician, I understand that automated rejections require verification with the insurer and appropriate escalation when needed. Those steps were not taken until I pushed for them. As a result, I went months without my prescribed preventive migraine therapy and experienced debilitating migraines while caring for my special-needs child. Preventive migraine treatment directly impacts daily functioning and neurological stability. I ultimately transferred my prescriptions and chose not to continue patronizing this pharmacy. Medication access requires diligence and accurate communication, and this experience did not reflect either. I hope this prompts improved verification procedures so other patients do not experience similar interruptions in care.

Staff was friendly - even during odd hours of the night - "You have no toiletries?" (Clearly she knew we were tourists.) We explained the whole missing bags thing to clear that up. They had everything we needed - clothes included - because who knows how long before our bags get delivered! Prices were reasonable - none of the tourists rates some places charge. What made it better is that it was only a couple of blocks away from our hotel. We returned a couple more times during the week for more basic stuff - mostly snacks, water and other rehydrating drinks. What I mostly appreciated is how conveniently located it is. No employee (including the manager) will reverse it, give you the money or do anything other than say "I assure you it didn't charge, it'll fall off your account". Or being told to fight it with my bank. I assure you, we've been back home for 3 weeks, it very much didn't fall off, and I have now been wasting my time with chargebacks through my bank.
