I had been going to Penn Ohio for about 5 years taking all of my animals there. They were excellent…read morewith my animals until I got a Pomeranian rescue about a year ago. She wasn't spayed yet and we were in the process of saving money to get her spayed. When I went in and asked about a smell that was coming from her nether regions, they immediately said she probably had pyometria. Worse case possible. Extremely worried, I sat on this news for 24 hours researching everything I could. Her "symptoms" were nothing close to pyo. I took her back in and a vet tech there said it was her anal glands. I felt like they were trying to scare me into spending money I didn't have (min of $350 and if she had pyo more like $750). Fast forward to this year, my Pomeranian was having urinary issues. I take her in and they ultrasound her bladder. It's inflamed. I ask what could be causing the inflammation, the answer I get was "that's a good question, we don't really know where inflammation comes from." Excuse me? I was confused like what? The doc just walks out of the room. I go get a second opinion from another vet. She has crystals in her urine there for needs to be put on a urinary diet. I take the rescue to a clinic to get spayed. After a week I notice her incision is a little puffy and red and since I already had an appointment that day for another pet, I called them to ask if they could take a look. They told me no, since I didn't get the operation done with them and everyone does the spaying surgery different. I said ok, but you can look at an incision and tell me whether or not it's infected right? Got the same answer about how everyone does spays differently blah blah. They told me to contact the clinic where I got her surgery done and it took that clinic an entire week to get back to me. I cancelled my appointment for my other pets to take all of them elsewhere. I spent thousands of dollars over the years and I don't know what happened or what is happening over there but it seems as though they don't care about your pets at all. The vet techs there are amazing I will say that. I take my animals to Village Green now and they were totally fine with checking out my rescue Pomeranians incision. If you take your animals to Penn Ohio, I recommend taking them elsewhere.

Having said that I've never got in any arguments with him or had him say anything offensive. And my politics are somewhere to the left of Lenin. He's always been respectful and friendly. He even gave us a thoughtful gift after one of our cats passed away. Granted I make it a point not to discuss politics with anyone period, just for the sake of my blood pressure and mental health. Your mileage may vary. More importantly he's been good with my cats. His prices are reasonable and he doesn't try to gouge me on unnecessary scans or tests. Never had any issues with him as a professional. No vet is perfect but he doesn't really deserve all the 1 star reviews in my opinion.

Dr. Allen is like Dr. Death but to animals. Remember that…read moresurgeon that intentionally was hurting his patients. Yup , thats Allen. This doctor is not up to date with today's animal practice. Misdiagnosed kidney failure as "a perfect weight" when I brought in my 2 year old pup, Lyme positive, who had been loosing excessive weight at an alarming rate a d not able to keep any food or water down for about a month. Dr. Allen said "he is not worried about this dog, give him ice cubes for dehydration". When I brought him back to euthanized because of severity and prognosis, he admitted he misdiagnosed and then tried to hide it. If I was you, I would record the entire experience when dealing with this imcompetent doctor. This is exactly why the saying goes, "you want your doctors young". Also, jeep reporting this "doctor" to the board. Its easy. https://elicense.ohio.gov/oh_filecomplaint

I have known a very dear friend for over 20 years. He is elderly and loves his dog very dearly. I…read morehave watched him do everything he can to care for it despite living on a very limited fixed income. What has saddened me is seeing how anxious he becomes when seeking veterinary care. He worries constantly about costs because he simply cannot afford unexpected expenses. In situations like that, kindness, patience, and clear communication matter tremendously. Unfortunately, from what I have witnessed and from conversations with him after his visits, he often left feeling dismissed rather than supported. Asking about costs should not make someone feel uncomfortable or ashamed. For a senior citizen trying his best to care for a beloved pet, a little compassion can make all the difference. Veterinary medicine is expensive, and I understand that practices must charge for their services. My concern is not the cost itself, but the way vulnerable clients are treated when they are frightened, anxious, and trying to understand their options. I hope this feedback is received in the spirit intended: as a reminder that empathy and respect are every bit as important as medical care. P.S. Afterward, I was able to locate several organizations in the area that specifically assist pet owners on limited incomes. It left me wondering why struggling clients aren't routinely provided with information about available community resources.
