Terrible & very expensive dr tells you to comeback for recheck and recharge you all over again !!!!!

I had been going to Penn Ohio for about 5 years taking all of my animals there. They were excellent with my animals until I got a Pomeranian rescue about a year ago. She wasn't spayed yet and we were in the process of saving money to get her spayed. When I went in and asked about a smell that was coming from her nether regions, they immediately said she probably had pyometria. Worse case possible. Extremely worried, I sat on this news for 24 hours researching everything I could. Her "symptoms" were nothing close to pyo. I took her back in and a vet tech there said it was her anal glands. I felt like they were trying to scare me into spending money I didn't have (min of $350 and if she had pyo more like $750). Fast forward to this year, my Pomeranian was having urinary issues. I take her in and they ultrasound her bladder. It's inflamed. I ask what could be causing the inflammation, the answer I get was "that's a good question, we don't really know where inflammation comes from." Excuse me? I was confused like what? The doc just walks out of the room. I go get a second opinion from another vet. She has crystals in her urine there for needs to be put on a urinary diet. I take the rescue to a clinic to get spayed. After a week I notice her incision is a little puffy and red and since I already had an appointment that day for another pet, I called them to ask if they could take a look. They told me no, since I didn't get the operation done with them and everyone does the spaying surgery different. I said ok, but you can look at an incision and tell me whether or not it's infected right? Got the same answer about how everyone does spays differently blah blah. They told me to contact the clinic where I got her surgery done and it took that clinic an entire week to get back to me. I cancelled my appointment for my other pets to take all of them elsewhere. I spent thousands of dollars over the years and I don't know what happened or what is happening over there but it seems as though they don't care about your pets at all. The vet techs there are amazing I will say that. I take my animals to Village Green now and they were totally fine with checking out my rescue Pomeranians incision. If you take your animals to Penn Ohio, I recommend taking them elsewhere. read more

I can't say enough good things about the vets and the staff. When it became necessary to put our fur baby to sleep, the techs were so thoughtful and understanding of our grief. They handled everything with empathy and professionalism. Our new puppy (a rescue) needed to be spayed and have her dew claws removed, they were great. We are pleased with all services rendered and the staff was friendly. I have no problem whatsoever recommending this place to anyone. read more

Horrible!! They over charge you for every visit and make you feel like you need to schedule unnecessary visits. When I got a new kitten I asked right away about getting her spayed and they actually discouraged me from doing it. How irresponsible is that?!? I will be going back to Whispering Pines in Greenville. They are so much better and I never should have stopped going there in the first place. We only switched vets because we moved and Penn Ohio was closer. It is definitely worth the extra drive to go back to Whispering Pines. read more

Ok, first off, I should preface this by saying I used to love this place. They seemed caring, the place seemed clean, and they saved my dog's life when he had pancreatitis. However after an event which happened with me and the proceeding words I've heard about them, I have to change my opinion. My dog gave birth to puppies due to an accidental pregnancy. The runt was born with a clef nose/lip. I attempted to call in order to get a check up on the puppies; try to see if they were ok and to see if the runt had a chance of living. I have read, and other vets have confirmed this with me that in a case with this the diagnosis can go either way and a check up is essential to determine what the right course of action is. Anyways when I called the lady on the phone told me these exact words, "Don't bother bringing her in unless you have thousands of dollars and either way she is probably going to die anyways." Now when you are calling for a basic check up or for any reason, this is not how a concerned person for their puppy should be treated. Surprisingly when I called three other vets, they all were very understanding and tried to fit her in for a check up. It only took three vets because it was a busy time of the year and the first two were booked for immediate appointments. I used to rave about this vet clinic to everyone I know. However, after witnessing people go through a darker side with them, experiencing it myself, and also being told similar things from the other clinics I called, I have to change my opinion of them. When working with the well being of a living being, unfortunately you cannot afford to have two faces and be caring one second, and then the total opposite the other. It is in my opinion you should really shop around for a different vet before you decide. The vets all around here have various reputations if you ask enough people and even call the other clinics. There are some wonderful vets around here who offer everything this place does, but also offers better service in my opinion. Edit: Upon informing my mother about the review I made she wanted to add something else. Her one yorkie got damage in his eye a couple years back. He had a slight hole in it and it was leaking a little bit. When my mother took her to this place, Nicole told her it would heal just fine and to just put some drops in his eye. My mother felt her dog wasn't looked after properly so she took him to the clinic in Pittsburgh. When she got there, the specialist told my mother that the vet completely misdiagnosed her yorkie. The hole would never heal up like Nicole had previously told my mom, and if left untreated, the dog would have lost his eye. Luckily since my mom felt uneasy about Nicole's diagnosis we were able to get proper medical treatment and save her yorkie's eye. The people who looked at my mother's yorkie were so quick to be able to determine what was wrong with his eye and the fact that without surgery he would lose it leads me to believe Nicole had no idea what she was talking about with the yorkie and completely misdiagnosed him. My mother even mentioned how our vet said he just needed drops and would be find and the vets over at Pittsburgh instantly said, "No, she's wrong he needs treatment now or he will lose the eye", and then proceeded to explain and show the proof to my mother. Not everyone is perfect, but one cannot just ignore a misdiagnosis which would have left a pet blind and possibly with a bad infection in his eye socket which could have led to worse things. read more
