As one of the babies he's delivered, I can say 10/10 experience. He saved my life literally.

I came to write this review after hearing about allegations against Dr. Altman as I figured women who are researching a new OB/GYN would be interested in reading a recent review. This is solely my experience. I am not diminishing any one else's experience. I got pregnant in 2022 with twins and had the babies the same year and before I went to Dr. Altman I was being seen as an OB/GYN from Dr. Lacuna. My experience with lacuna was awful. He did not answer any of my questions and his replies would be "we'll see when we get there." After leaving three appointments rushed and frustrated with no answers from that doctor, I ended up doing research and switched to Dr. Altman. I Didn't know at the time that he was the head of the department, which would explain the great experience. Dr. Altman was a very patient Doctor Who would sit down in front of me and look me in the eye as he listened to my questions and answered as best he could. During appointments he was very thorough and explaining what he was doing, what he was about to do or going to do and making sure that he knew what my plans wanted to be (as far as birth). I did not feel in any way that Dr. Altman had gross misconduct, however, I will say he is very sensitive in that if you're having a hard moment, he will put his hand on your shoulder to comfort you. My husband was in the room with me at most appointments (I think I only went solo once and there was a nurse in the room with me and the doctor) and he never did anything untoward. My husband I thought he was very kind. I can see how if you are not touchy feely, that you would not appreciate the hugs or shoulder pats or even the eye contact but again nothing suspicious (and I am very suspicious of men) I hope those considering Altman do so. Dr.Altman is the best doctor ever! I'm so happy to switch to him. He and his team are amazing: -Check in process is simple and quick. Front desk ladies are polite. Wait process was very quick. -Nurses are friendly and helpful. -Dr.Altman is so respectful, kind, and definitely an expert. Dr. Altman was my OB when I had my daughter in 2019. He is very understanding and always took the time to talk to me about how I was feeling. During that time I'd bring my 4 year old son along and he would always talk to my son about dinosaurs or other things that would make my son happy to be there with me. Dr. Altman also listened to my concerns and put me on medication for my blood pressure. This was awesome because when giving birth the first time my blood pressure was so high that I almost died. He also quickly induced me due to my blood pressure being a little high and he didn't want to risk it being like my first birth. I gave birth to my beautiful baby girl the very next day after induction. I trust him with my feminine care as well. If I ever have a baby again, I will definitely be going back to him! read more

This is my second pregnancy using Dr. Altman. I would have many more children knowing he was my Dr - that's how much I enjoy him. He always understands my anxiety & answers any questions. Bedside manner 10/10. I truly will be sad once I have my last baby & I'll no longer have him. read more

He is a great doctor. I came to him after a very rude few visits with a previous gynecologist. Dr. Altman listens to you and respects your wishes. I just had surgery and he was very polite. I was very nervous and he explained things to me even though I had heard it so many times before. Memorial hospital was great as well. I have never had such a great experience with medical professionals. I highly recommend him. read more

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE After hours of research I had chosen Dr Altman due to his reviews and experience. I regret going to him. I went in for a routine ultrasound and unfortunately there was no heartbeat and the baby past. Dr Altman said sorry the baby has has no heartbeat and has past, it will eventually come out and left less then a minute later. My appointment with him was maybe 5 minutes. It was crazy. My fiance and I after the shock of loosing our baby stood there and weren't sure the next steps. The nurse walked in, surprised we were still there! We asked what we were supposed todo, I was 16 weeks but based on the ultrasound the baby passed at 12 weeks (I had a missed miscarriage which I had to research and find out since the Dr never told me). Pretty much the nurse just said that I go home and wait for the baby to come out. We were shocked. The baby had past away 4 weeks ago, I had zero symptoms of a miscarriage and all I was told was to go home and wait. Literally nothing else. We went home, I started doing my research and found out of a few ways to go into labor? There was a pill to help me and an H and C procedure, this was all my own research, the Dr never gave me options. I emailed the Dr and yes he was willing to do what I had asked based on my research (I did the H and C) but that was only with my own guidance that I never had with him. Also I found out I was O-, that I needed a shot and that was a whole other situation where I feel Dr Altman failed to communicate. Ive heard great things about him, he delivered my nephew and my brother and sister in law loved him but his quality of service has completely changed. He only works 1 to 2 times a week and apparently no time for patients. I would not recommend him. read more

I don't even know where to begin! Never in my life have I received this level of care. At 39 years old, I finally have the courage to try to have a baby with my husband. Found Dr. Altman through several reliable recommendations from friends and professional. He helps me begin to plan. We get pregnant right away thanks to Dr. Altman's guidance. Unfortunately we have a missed miscarriage early on. Dr. Altman was so compassionate delivering the sad news. He walked us through options and encouraged us to keep trying. I turned 40 a few days after the sad news. I decided to meet with a fertility doctor based on my age just to be thorough. Dr. Altman was so awesome and jumped through the many hoops of tests and procedures the fertility doctor needed to save money by going through our obgyn insurance covered it. Long story short--our fertility doctor felt trying naturally again was our best option based on our results. I was scared to do so, but Dr. Altman assured me he'd be there good news or bad to help me through. The first trimester was scary as I bleed a lot. Dr. Altman suggested I come in once a week just to ease any anxiety. He literally met with me once a week the entire pregnancy. Mind you, he has a thriving practice, he is the president of Sutter and he has a family he loves to spend time with. Hr was on top of every little thing. My pregnancy was mostly normal--mild gestational diabetes that Dr. Altman had me meeting with specialists to control right away--risks of my age--and family history of preeclampsia. When it came close to her due date, Dr. Altman recommended inducing a week early due to personalizing the protocol, my age and eliminating the risk of still birth. I was nervous this would lead to a c-section but trusted Dr. Altman with our lives. Last week I checked in, Dr. Altman came to the hospital prepared us. His team was AMAZING! He stayed on call all night--his team called him for anything from my next dose of meds, to my water breaking, to needing an epidural. When it was time to deliver, he was in our room within minutes with a full team, he safely delivered our healthy, happy 7.13 pound baby girl. After placing her on my chest I was crying and thanking him. He compassionately stroked my head knowing he was in this journey with us. As I held our baby and looked around the room at all the chaos Dr. Altman was calmly stitching me up like a conductor leading a orchestra. That night, he came by our room to hold our baby and check in on us, he did the same the next morning. Our family will be hearing this story about our compassionate heroic doctor Altman who helped bring our little girl into this world. At 41 years old, only 11 days after delivery I almost look like I didn't have a baby and I feel great---like I could run or even do a solid workout. I'll wait until I'm cleared to do so, but that is just another testament to how efficient, gentle, and brilliant Dr. Altman is at both his profession and his heart for his patients! read more

Dr. Altman is a rare find. With all the uncertainty and anxiety that can come with a fist time pregnancy, it was such a relief knowing I had a doctor who cared. I have only been to Dr. Altman twice, but I will not see anyone else for my feminine care. He is very compassionate, thorough, and makes you feel like you are on the top of his priority list. At my last appointment, I did not receive the best news. Dr. Altman took my hands, did breathing exercises and actually gave me a hug to help me calm down. I have never had that type of care before. If anyone is looking for a new OB, I HIGHLY recommend him. read more

I had a surgery in Aug, for an "ovarian torsion" although turned out it was only a ruptured cysts, if more testing would have been done maybe my life wouldn't be as it is today. I developed pelvic Adhesions, and I am now permanently disabled. I live with nausea and vomiting daily, constant severe pain, I have to have IV infusions, and butran Patches which make me so tired I have a hard time staying awake throughout the day. My health has suffered and will never be the same because it was decided I needed surgery. I've had three surgeries since with no improvement, I will be disabled the rest of my life because of the surgery he did on me. And am at a high risk for bowel obstruction. I will never get better and there is nothing any doctor can do for me, is what I have been told. Adhesions cause pain. And have ruined my life. Ask your doctor about reducing possibility of adhesions before surgery, make sure proper testing is done before someone convinces you you need a surgery you don't really need. read more

For an OBGYN you can't get a Better doctor than Dr. Altman. He respects your wishes and really takes care of you. I changed insurances to get him in order to have him delivery my twins and because of him, I received the birth I wanted. I'm pregnant again and automatically made him my doctor for this pregnancy. read more

one of the worsest doctor in this planet the rudest person i ever met so ignorant and he insulted me and didnt answer my questions well .he dosent know how to treat a patient therefore he just got up and left the room in the middle of my scentence. never going back to him i left that appointment very upset it ruined my week and the whole month :( read more

He is an incredible OB. Patient, kind, considerate, and has a passion for his career.

Best OBGYN in Modesto.... Weird to say that but you will not find another OB as kind, caring, patient and honestly you can feel love radiating off of him. As warm and compassionate as they come. He has delivered all of my children. If you have the option I would choose hime over ANYone. read more

Dr. Altman is an amazing OBGYN! My only wish is that I would have found him sooner. He has the absolute best bedside manners I have ever come across in a Doctor. He genuinely cares about you and respects your wishes. He is gentle and makes you feel comfortable. I actually had a different OBGYN and ended up in the emergency room. Dr. Altman was on call that evening, the very next day after my visit with him I switched doctors. I had a high risk pregnancy but he assisted me in every way he possibly could. He actually gave me hope when the high risk doctor told me I would lose my son. It was because of Doctor Altman that my son is here. I trust him with my life. He is very experienced and knowledgable which is exactly what I was looking for in a doctor. Absolutely no questions about it the most wonderful doctor to have. read more

I just can say 4 words for him: HE IS THE BEST!! My husband and I are expecting our first baby (it's a girl!!) and we are so lucky to have him as OB!!! He is very clear in everything and if you have doubts, questions or concerns he always give you the correct answer so you can be calm. He loves his job and you can notice it instantly. Dr. Altman is one of the best Doctor's I have ever had. He is patient, understanding and listens to you as if you are the only one patient he has. He never rushes you out. He takes his time with you and is very thorough. He is caring and gives you options as to what the best thing for you to do. Working in the hospital I have witnessed Dr. Altman's behavior in board meetings, with his staff as well as just a stranger walking through the hospital. In 2006 Dr. Altman burned my ureter and left me disabled for the rest of my life having to undergo 6 more pelvic surgeries, many hospitalizations, foley catheters and life long nerve pain as a result of his rushed and sloppy surgical technique. He never even acknowledged his mistake. I suffer from severe endometriosis and this doctor has NO regard for how to treat women with this severe disease. Attention to detail and meticulous surgical technique are musts with this disease. Instead, this doctor did a rush 30 minute removal, spilling the contents of my ovary throughout my pelvis which led to spreading of the disease and, as noted above, thermally injuring my ureter, which closed down and almost led me to lose my kidney. Great doctor! Doctor Altman delivered my premature baby after he put me on hospital bed rest for two weeks. He did so much to help delay the birth. He is very kind and gentle. Each time I go in for an appointment he is personable and spends 15-20 mins in the room with me to answer all questions. Dr. Altman ended up delivering my son last when my regular OBGYN wan't available. I was so upset at first because here I was in labor and now having to trust a doctor I had never met, but as soon as he walked in the room and saw me gripping the bedrails and cringing in pain, he instantly put me at ease. He helped with relax without medication...and then gave me medication to make me feel even better :) He was so gentle and kind and made me feel like my baby and myself were in the best of hands. Dr. Altman is one of the kindest, patient and most knowledgable doctors I have ever met. Being in the medical field, I have met a lot of doctors!! He is friendly and approachable and will never make you feel rushed during the appointments. I was so anxious during the delivery but he put my fears to rest and everything went better than I could have ever imagined. I'm a bit hesitant to write such a raving review, because if I have another child I don't want him to be too busy that I can't get an appointment! I had prolapse uterus! So I went to him because I trusted him I said I want to keep my uterus what can u do to solve the problem, he said don't worry I'll fix it for you, I'll pul the uterus up I'm gone do Laparoscopic and you will be fine! But unfortunately a few days after my surgery, my uterus dropped again and when I asked him why that happened to me he really didn't have any thing to say, so I was so disappointed cause the recovery was so long and pain full even though he said after a week I should be able to go back to my normal activities, but I was resting for 4 weeks and did t do anything. but......I went to other doctors to get their opinions and they all said that we don't do that surgery anymore cause it's very old and specially it's not gone work for you...he had to do a different surgery so I went thru all this for nothing.... :( i think that wasn't fair I have 2 kids I wish he would of refer me to a specialist! read more
