I went to Dr Galiano for the removal of a lipoma - a benign fatty tumor, at my waist. What was supposed to be minor surgery ("I could do this in my office under a local anesthetic") turned into major abdominal surgery ("it turned out the lipoma was under the muscle; I had to cut the muscle - this was worse than a c-section."). The change in the surgery was not Dr. Galiano's fault. However, the communication, treatment, care and concern I received from him thereafter, or should I say the lack thereof, certainly was. I don't want to go into detail but my overall experience was negative and I would not recommend him. read more

I had a breast reduction with Dr. G two years ago in August. It's been the best two years of my life. Dr. G, is so welcoming, patient, kind and HONEST he will tell you exactly what to expect and what's realistic for your particular situation all in the most pleasant bedside manner I've ever encountered even better than my primary care. Honestly, I wish he could be my everything doc! I never felt rushed in his office and he will even give you his email so that you can ask any last minute questions, which he always responded to. After my surgery, he saw me post op for one year completely free of charge, removed my dog ear completely free of charge and he will also do a scar revision if necessary, again completely free of charge. His philosophy is that it's all part of the same procedure. It feels great to know that I have a surgeon who is more concerned with my happiness, safety and wellbeing than his pockets. I was a 34 G, probably larger, and my breasts sagged tremendously from the weight. He was able to do the lollipop procedure I wanted and I'm a happy, very perky, pain free 34 DD. Dr. G is masterful with his craft as well, while yes a reduction helps with physical pain etc., they are still your breasts and he doesn't forget that. My breasts are a work of freakin art, they are truly beautiful. The shape is a perfect teardrop and they look and feel natural but enviable, they're not hard or lumpy in anyway. One thing about size, I originally asked him to be a very small C, he informed me he would remove more or less depending on what suited my natural shape best ( I'm 5 4 140 pounds athletic), I'm soo glad he followed his instincts. I wore sports bras and soft cup bralettes for the first year and thought I was about a C cup. To me they feel very medium sized ( perspective huh?) anyway I decided it was time to get a real bra about 3 months ago. Imagine my shock when I found out I was a DD! But honestly, they are the perfect size for me, I know in a reduction we get caught up on just being "small" and anywhere near the D size screams BIG but really my boobs aren't big and no one has even called them big since my surgery. My sister's first comment was "it's just so crazy how proportional you are now." My grandmother's was "You look a good 20 pounds thinner" WIN. So all in all I would say don't get caught up on the bra size and get your butt to Dr. G, ASAP! I'm giving Dr. Galiano 3 starts because he is a very kind, courteous person. I went to him for a breast reduction about a year ago. During the consultation, I emphasized that I wanted to be a much smaller size -- from a 32E to a 32 B or C. Dr. Galiano said that cup sizes differ so much that it wasn't helpful to talk cup sizes, but he assured me that I would be happy with the results. When the procedure was over I was shocked at how large I still was. I hoped that it was swelling, but a year later I am still a 32 D. I feel my large breasts are disproportionate to my small frame, and I am looking into finding another doctor who will listen better and reduce my breasts to a size that I am comfortable with. read more

I wanted to write this review of Dr. Galiano and his staff because they all made my choice to have septo/rhino plasty a breeze...literally, they are amazing!! From the very beginning I was unsure about having this procedure, yet it was something that I can remember talking about ever since I was a teenager (I am now in my upper 30's with 2 kids). Dr. Galiano immediately made me feel at ease. He is not only a true professional, but he is a wonderful listener. He assured me that he strives for natural results, the kind that highlight a better version of yourself. This was important to me because I didn't want shocking results; I wanted people to think I looked good, but maybe wonder what may have changed!! I can honestly say that this is the exact result he achieved. Dr. Galiano is extremely genuine, he doesn't make promises that he can't keep, and he is very upfront about what is possible. It is evident that he is incredibly knowledgeable, yet he takes the time to really hear your concerns and ensure that you are heard. I also can't say enough praise about Robyn, Dr. Galiano's assistant, and Emily, his nurse. Robyn will email you back within hours and answer any silly question you have; mine ranged from recovery time, hours in surgery, when to schedule my surgery, billing, billing, and more billing! She is so conscientious and takes care of every detail. By the time I went into surgery I had everything covered. Emily is equally as remarkable at her job. She answered my questions before and after surgery about medications. Emily also made me feel so at ease while having my splint removed and taking the after surgery photos. I honestly cannot stress enough just how extraordinary Dr. Galiano and his staff are at their jobs. They all helped with every step of this procedure in different ways. If you are thinking of having a cosmetic procedure you need to have a consultation with Dr. Galiano...you will be thrilled with the entire process, especially your results!! I just wanted to reiterate how spectacular Dr. Galiano and Robyn are almost 1 year later from my initial procedure. The hospital messed up on some of my billing (because my procedure was part medical/part cosmetic) and Robyn has literally kept in contact with me almost monthly to resolve the issue. I read many reviews for plastic surgeons when planning for my breast reduction and there is not a single great thing listed here about Dr. Galiano that I would not agree with. I don't write yelp reviews - but given my own fantastic experience with Dr. Galiano and everyone in his practice - I felt I owed it to him and everyone else contemplating this surgery. From my initial appointment in February through my surgery at the end of July - everyone at the practice has gone above and beyond to make me feel comfortable. Jamie is fantastic! She calmed my fears and answered my 10,000 last minute questions quickly. They made the process of getting my insurance approval a breeze. The day of my surgery, everyone at Northwestern was great. I saw probably 10 different specialists at the hospital during my 'registration' period and they were all kind, compassionate and on top of their game. They also were great about keeping my family aware of what was happening, how I was doing, etc. The surgery itself was flawless. The only hiccup I had was a reaction to the anesthesia and pain medication during the recovery. I was supposed to go home that day, but got nauseous when I switched from IV to pills for pain management. I decided to stay in the hospital overnight. Although it was a bit of chaos within the hospital, Dr. Galiano made sure that I was able to stay overnight to get support from the nurses and staff. I must say, the nurses in the Overnight observation room were unbelievably great!!!!!! I think there were 8 of them over the course of evening (in shifts of 2), and they could not have more kind, compassionate and supportive. Recovery has been pretty easy. The surgery itself resulted in far less pain than one would expect. I was off of the pain medication in 3 days. I did have some liposuction as part of the reconstruction. This is painful. It was far more painful than anything to do with the actual reduction. I had crazy, severe bruising that looked like I'd been beaten with a baseball bat - and it lasts for a many weeks. other than that - the entire thing was a breeze. I only wish I had done this years ago. It's been such an incredible relief to my neck, shoulders and back - my only regret is not doing it years ago. If you're thinking of having a breast reduction - go see Dr. Galiano. I highly, highly recommend him and his team for amazing results, fantastic care and a seamless, easy process. read more

Here's my story. I had been large breasted and hated every minute of it. After having my son my breast went from a 32D to a 32G! It was absolutely horrible. I was extremely physically uncomfortable everyday and often laid up for days due to neck and back spasms. Not to mention that I was very self conscious of how I looked and how difficult finding clothes that fit. It has been almost a year since Dr. Galiano performed my breast reduction. My son, a 21 year old college soccer player, broke his leg in June while playing in a summer league game in Colorado. He goes to school in Missouri and the rest of the family lives in Northwest Indiana. After 8 days in the hospital and 3 surgeries in Colorado, we returned to Indiana. My son had one surgery in Indiana to try to close the open wound on his leg. We were not happy with the experience and the fact that the doctors in Indiana were taking a wait and see approach. We needed to be proactive and my son needed to get back to college and his team, even though he would not be playing this fall. The wife of a colleague of my husband is a doctor at Northwestern Medical Center and referred us to Dr. Galiano. What a blessing! My husband called and spoke to Jamie and explained our situation. We were able to see Dr. Galiano that afternoon! He was thorough in his explanations and my son felt the options he presented were the best ones for him. My son had skin graft surgery 5 days later. Not a particularly pleasant experience but Dr. Galiano had explained everything so well that my son was aware of what to expect so he was less apprehensive. Five days later we went back for a post-op check and were told everything looked great. Five days later the staples were out and my son was on his way back to Missouri the next day. After two weeks, my son texted me some pictures of his leg and I forwarded those to Dr. Galiano. I heard back from him immediately with his assurance that things were healing nicely and some suggestions of additional things to do to aid the process. He also requested more pictures after another couple of weeks. Our whole experience with Dr. Galiano and his staff has been wonderful. The fact that he recognized my son is a serious athlete and worked with him to get him back to where he needed to be was fantastic. All of the nurses that worked with us in Dr. Galiano's office were superb. We never had a question that wasn't thoroughly answered. We never felt like we were being rushed in and out. Despite the circumstances of the reason we were seeing Dr. Galiano, it was a very pleasant experience. Even though my son has followup care in Missouri, being able to email pictures and questions to Dr. Galiano is a very big deal to me. In June of 2016 I chose Dr. Galiano for a facelift based on the excellent reviews that I read online. Unfortunately, at that time I did not notice that almost all the reviews were not for facelifts. A couple of weeks post-surgery, I realized that there was something wrong with my face: when I smiled or laughed the smile stopped well below the cheekbones. This caused the skin to "bunch up" well below the cheekbones. It felt like the skin and muscle had been anchored to the bone and could move past it. In addition, very large skull-like indentations were formed around the cheekbones and a round "bulge" appeared just above the jaw line. The sides of my face, especially the left one, looked awkward and a little grotesque. It was not possible to speak to Dr. Galiano directly by phone and I conveyed my worries through his nurse, who spoke to him and took his answer that she passed to me. He was not concerned, the nurse said, and dismissed my concerns as part of the swelling and healing process. At three months post-surgery, after most swelling had subsided, the problem was even more obvious. He said that he would use some filler to even up the indentations on the cheekbones and he offered Kybella injections for the "bulge" (for $2,000.00). As for the tethering of skin and muscle below the cheekbone, well, I had to keep it. He assured me that he had not used stitches that could explain the tethering and promised that eventually everything would be fine. In addition to these problems, I was not able - and still am not able at nine months post surgery - to close my left eye completely because the muscle controlling the lower lid was/is not working properly. I saw Dr. Galiano last time in October. I was very angry at his dismissal of my problems and told him that I would consult another surgeon. In February I had a repair/revision facelift with another surgeon. He told me that there were indeed permanent stitches that he had to remove together with a permanent thread that held together the tissues. He also cleaned the underlying abundant scar tissue but could not remove all of it without risk of damaging the nerve. Now my face looks and feels normal. This entire ordeal cost me much pain, humiliation in having an awkward face for several months, and a lot of money, especially because I had to pay many more thousands of dollars to Dr. Galiano in addition to what he had originally estimated. And the disregard of the doctor for my concerns was disheartening. For several months I debated whether to write this review or not. I realize that maybe I am one of just few mistakes that happened. On the other hand, if one had warned me about facelift results, I would have gone somewhere else. Based on the reviews, Dr. Galiano is likely good with breast surgeries. However, if somebody is contemplating a facelift with him, perhaps he/she should ask him first to look at patients who underwent this procedure with him. Unless he has many successful facelifts under his belt, one should be careful. read more

Dr. Galiano is absolutely amazing and kind. His office and team were very caring, organized, clean and very professional. I came to Dr. Galiano for a breast reduction, which I had on August 17th. The results are exactly what I wanted. I was a 36 C-D and I asked Dr. Galiano if he could take me down to an a cup. He did that and so much more. He gave me my life back!. The results of the surgery are phenomenal. He even did a bit of liposuction around my arm pits and sides where my breast originally would curve to help give me a more masculine physique, which is what I desired (very awesome and thoughtful)! I recently had brachioplasty surgery with Dr.Galiano and I am pretty impressed with the results. During the first appointment, he examined and gave me all the details on what can be done and what cant be done and all details about recovery. Before the first appointment I thought I would have several questions but after he gave me the details I think I didnt have any questions at all. :) The surgery and the recovery - I dont even remember that I had a surgery, it was that easy and comfortable. He is very professional and quality is amazing. He eased my nervousness and he was pretty calm and soothing so I didnt have to get worked up, and I get worked up for even simplest things in life. There was some communication gap about the pathology test and charges between him and the staff but my insurance covered that so it was all good in the end. I had my surgery for the same thing around 10 years before with another doctor and it was a total waste of money and time and I was in pain for longtime. And the recovery took longer time. The result isnt even worth mentioning. "I remember the surgery but I didnt have the results, but with Dr.Galiano, I dont remember the surgery but I can see the results." I can wear my swimsuits and sleeveless shirts and my favorite dresses now without constantly checking and being cautious - thanks to Dr. Galiano. The nurses and the staff are amazing. I recently decided to undergo a breast reduction and that was a huge decision for me personally. I've been researching the procedure for a few years now and was comfortable with the decision to move forward with it. After many years of trying to decide if i should get breast implants I finally went to see Dr. Galiano. He is one of the most genuine, calm, highly skilled surgeons I have encountered. We had multiple discussions on what I was looking to achieve through breast augmentation and once the surgery was done he delivered exactly what he promised- actually my surgery came out even better than I had expected. I've been meaning to write this for some time. A few years ago I was referred to Dr. Galiano for breast reconstruction surgery after having a lumpectomy. To make a long story short, I needed a very rare and complex surgery called DIEP flap, that required an extreme level of skill. It was a long surgery, and all I can say is that Dr. Galiano was truly MAGNIFICENT!! I had a fantastic outcome and I recovered quickly. I couldn't believe how great I looked. :) Since I had every confidence in Dr. Galiano, the next year I decided to have lower eyelid blepharoplasty. The procedure was done in his office. Dr. Galiano made me feel very comfortable and completely at ease. It was painless and I had wonderful results. I was so excited to have the bags under my eyes gone. Last week I had laser resurfacing around my under eyes. It was basically a little touch up after the lower eyelid surgery. (icing on the cake) It also went very well and I'm healing great. My eyes are looking fantastic. I am so thankful that I chose Dr. Galiano as my plastic surgeon. He is a kind, compassionate, talented and gifted man. I love Sarah & Robin as well. Dr. Galiano performed my breast reduction about a year and a half ago. I did have a consult with another surgeon (the "boob guy" on the North Shore) who had been recommended by two of my doctors. However, I appreciated the more professional atmosphere of NU, and, most importantly, that Dr. Galiano was an expert in the "short scar" procedure, which involves only a circular incision around the nipple and a vertical one down the breast, eliminating the horizontal incision under the breast of the standard procedure. I cannot praise Dr. Galiano highly enough. Not only was he incredibly kind, but he was refreshingly honest about what I could expect. He also took the time to answer all of my questions thoroughly during our appointments, and responded to my (many, many) emails, almost instantaneously. I have worked with many physicians professionally, and I have never witnessed this level of attention (especially from a surgeon!). The surgery went very well. In general I don't heal well from wounds, and he had me come back for frequent follow ups, at no charge to me or my insurance company (which paid for the operation). After a year he suggested that I have a scar revision, which he had warned me was a possibility from the beginning, and he also did not charge me for that. The fact that I did not even ask for it, and he was not being paid for it, speaks to his level of perfectionism and professionalism. The revision went well, and I am very happy with the results. I just had my last appointment with him, and I was a little sad to say my goodbyes--his entire staff is very friendly and competent (and natural looking!), especially his assistant Jamie. I would not hesitate to recommend him to anybody, for any procedure. He is very talented and dedicated to his work. Even though he does research on things like diabetic wounds and is an expert on the less cosmetically-oriented breast reduction procedure, he also spoke to me at length of his love of cosmetic procedures (facial work, breast enhancements, etc), and given that he continually strives for perfection, I think he would do a wonderful job on those as well. So, go see Dr. Galiano. As far as I am concerned, he is the best "boob guy" Chicagoland has to offer. read more

I am writing this review because prior to my own surgery I remember being so nervous and reading comments on yelp helped me find a great doc. I had abdominal surgery in Feb 2013. I was soooo scared because blood clots run in my family. Dr. Galiano allowed me to email his nurse with all of my weekly questions and he just put me at ease every time I met with him. On the day of my surgery, I was so nervous. I couldn't stop crying. So he stopped in to see me before they took me into surgery. He asked the nurse to give me something to calm my nerves and the next thing I remember was being in recovery with my family and the nurse. I was able to get off the strong pain meds in about three days and switch to tylenol. As for my results, I am very pleased. I have my life back. Although he made no promises, my back pain has completely vanished since my diastasis and hernia repair. He is the MAN! read more

In dealing with Dr. Robert D. Galiano, MD I found him outstanding. He actually reconstructed the muscle in the calf of my right leg. He stated in the beginning it was going to be a long road considering the size of the reconstruction area. I am very happy to say I would not consider this a minor operation. Dr Galiano is pretty awesome. I had been thinking about getting a breast reduction for the last 10 years and after reading numerous reviews and researching many different surgeons and even going for in person appointments, I finally found Dr Galiano. He was the first doctor to answer my concerns as if they were legitimate concerns and treat me like an actual person and not a number. He has been nothing but kind, respectful and professional throughout this whole ordeal. I even though I might need a follow up for some scars I had and he helped me understand that healing takes time and that it would be better and smarter to wait and see how things heal in the long run than to jump to conclusions. One week ago I saw Dr. Galiano for a fat graft and laser treatment. I went because I had very deep lines on my upper lip and deep lines on my chin as well as lines on my forehead and around my eyes. I was nervous about having the fat graft on my upper lip, the lines were very deep. I've seen too many women who have such pronounced lips that they look like car bumpers. I wanted a doctor who understood that I "want to look the same, only better", with no obvious signs of having had work done. Dr. Galiano took fat from my abdomen and used it to fill in the lines on my lip and chin. It looks very natural, as I guess it should because it came from my own body. Then he went over my face with the lazer. After treatment I had minimal swelling and used A&D ointment after cleansing my face several times a day. It is now about a week later and I am very happy with how my skin looks, and my lips look natural. I think he did an expert job. I look years younger. read more

I contacted Dr. Galiano's office after years of being unhappy with the way my belly looked after having 5 kids. I was extremely self concious of my appearence, I didn't like the way clothes looked on me, and was just unhappy about it. I also have Graves Disease which caused my eyes to bulge or protrude which caused extreme sagging of my upper eyelids and severe bags under my eyes.. i wore big framed glasses to hide my face from feeling so embarrassed. Dr. Galiano was very attentive and listened to my concerns. He gave my a realistic outlook on how my eyes would look after surgery, and the tummy tuck was a common procedure he had done often. I have a rare skin disease called linear scleroderma, which has left me with deformities on the left side of my face and body. When I was 13 and 15 years old, I had reconstructive surgeries on my face. I was told then, that I would have to have more surgeries in the future. Fifteen years later, my disease had progressed to the point where surgery was necessary again. Dr. Galiano was referred to me by my rheumatologist. He immediately made me feel comfortable and completely confident that I was in good hands. I trusted him! I have had many other surgeries, but I was particularly nervous about this surgery since it was my face that he would be reconstructing. Dr. Galiano did a wonderful job! I am to have a total of three separate surgeries in order to get the results I am seeking, and I am very happy with the results of this first stage.
