Open House 11/11/17 ... Next one in 18 months!
Carol I.

MUST DO!!! A cave in the neighborhood?... how cool is that?!!! Robber Baron Cave Preserve is located just inside Loop 410 on Nacogdoches where Cave Lane (yep, there is really a cave!) turns into Carmellia Way which is also just down the road from HEB Oak Park... and actually some of cave tunnels are under HEB! It's a huge cave! Open House is only available every 18 months due to the environmental impact of tourists to the endangered species that live in the cave. They do occasionally offer private tours for special groups like the Boy/Girl Scouts from what I heard on my tour. I arrived on Sat 11 Nov 2017 just after 9am and there was a long line to sign in. I waited about 30 min, then another hour for my time to go in. No worries, there were vendors to talk to, things to purchase. I bought some bat guano for my garden. Texas Cave Management Association asked for only a $5 donation to visit inside the cave but they could have asked for a whole lot more and they would have gotten it! Caving helmets with lights were provided... thank goodness. Every time I hit my head, I said thank you for this helmet. I am still recovery from Complex-Traumatic Brain Injury (C-TBI), and probably always will be, so protecting my head is always important for me in any activity. Robber Baron Cave is a wild cave so sturdy shoes and appropriate clothing is important. You will be getting down on your knees and crawling down tunnels. There are no hand rails. It is not for the disabled. So during my visit, I didn't go very far down the walkway inside the cave before turning back. Honestly, it was too warm and humid in there for me and it was hard to breathe, I think mostly because all the people. I didn't feel anxious but I can see it could be scary for some people. There was a small child that was freaking out trying to force his way out when I was going in the entrance. This is not the place for small children... unless they have already been exposed to this type of activity with their parents previous to this, like the family standing in line in front of me. Go with caution. This is something I have always wanted to do... Bucket List Check!

I took this sightseeing tour for my birthday in 2022. As a former San Antonio resident, I was…read morelooking forward to seeing how the story of S.A. was told to tourists. The process for booking the tour was simple as it can be done online or in person. Patrons purchase tickets and are given a schedule of when the bus departs from the meeting point and of the sights the bus stops at. When entering the bus, patrons are permitted to sit wherever they choose on the double-decker bus. The Things elected to sit on the top deck in the baking hot sun (not recommended on a TX summer day). The tour is what you make it. You can craft your own route as the bus routes are designed to take you near the main landmarks in the city. By taking the hop on, hop off option, you can change routes and discover the city at leisure. The bus stops are multiple locations along the route, and the bus driver provides fun facts about the places along the bus route. While I didn't learn anything new about my city, The Things did. This is a great option for those looking to do something different in their own city or for those who are visiting S.A. for the first time.

Doesn't measure up with some of the other tours I been on. I will tell you that the tour can…read morereally hinge on the driver. We did have problems understanding due to bad acoustics on one of the buses. Another bus broke down. (It was replaced in 15mins). Because we hoped off and got back on, we had multiple drivers. One was really good... wish I knew her name (sorry). But she was informative and played music on her iPod when she wasn't talking. (Nice) One driver however, literally talked to the two women in the front seats about the Pink Concert that was happening in the evening. I was thinking.... Tell me about the damn history!! I just did a tour in Austin that was a lot cheaper and was way more fun and informative. (But it wasn't a hop on/hop off tour) Wasn't horrible, but I wouldn't do it again. Could have driven to most of the stop and even with parking, would have been cheaper.

She's a high school senior currently experiencing homelessness, and her mom wasn't able to celebrate her birthday this year.. As someone who runs a nonprofit, I reached out to a few places hoping someone would be willing to help make her day special. When I say they were absolutely amazing, I mean that with my whole heart. They were kind, welcoming, and so accommodating. They helped create a beautiful space where she and her friends could celebrate, laugh, and just be young for a moment. And listen... it wasn't just pictures. It was joy, confidence, and memories. Watching these girls light up, feel beautiful, and enjoy themselves in such a fun, creative environment meant everything. You could literally see their spirits lift. Everybody deserves to feel special, especially on their birthday and especially a young woman pushing through life and still showing up and doing her best. Because of this experience, I will always support and recommend them. If you're looking for a place that brings fun, creativity, and positive energy, this is definitely a spot you should check out
