Trueheart Ranch Park is a new park managed by the San Antonio River Authority. It's located on the Southside near I-37 and 410, in the vicinity of Mitchell Lake and Braunig Lake. The ranch house probably dates back to the 1840s but was expanded circa 1900 and occupied up the the 1960s. There are remnants of agricultural use, such as irrigation canals, pecan orchards, a cattle chute, a hay barn, and more. There is a looping trail, the Acequia Trail, that's about a mile long, but you can double back to get in more steps. The artificial lake, Blue Wing Lake, that was created for duck hunting, is not accessible yet. The master plan shows a lot of amenities that are not built yet, but the park is already worth a visit to observe its historical features and living things. On a visit in October we saw wildflowers like four o'clocks (white and pink), whitemouth dayflower (blue), rain lillies, red sage. It will be fun to watch the park add more amenities while continuing to provide rest and nourishment for migratory birds. read more
