The backstory of Chris Park is heartbreaking--philanthropist and artist Linda Pace's son died of a drug overdose in 1997. She created the garden to celebrate his life. The artworks by Teresita Fernandez are personal and also thought provoking, like the riff on "Wednesday's Child," and the benches inscribed with lines from Linda's son's journals. Addiction and loss have touched so many of us. Visiting the park reminds me to look out for friends and family, be present to help them, and be aware of community resources that are helping people get their lives back. Chris Park is especially peaceful on Sunday mornings because a meditation group practices there. The park, like the Ruby City musuem, is free; go online to check hours and make a reservation for the museum.

Open on limited days and hours, but well worth a stop if visiting Ruby City or Blue Star. A small piece of serenity in an otherwise historically industrial area. Face coverings and reservations required for the indoor gallery. If the weather is nice this is a very good spot for a blanket picnic.

Chris Park is a green space that was developed by Linda Pace in memoriam of her son Chris. This one acre park features notable art installations including benches with Chris' journal entries etched into the rock. I would say my favorite though was the "Wednesday's Child" installation which has the poem line by line on colorful glass saucers set in the concrete. There is also a dog run, a playground and gorgeous foliage throughout. You can't miss the huge bamboo that lines part of the trail! The park also has doggie bags available, trash cans and a very clean and custom bathroom featuring stainless steel and an iron door. The park is open to the public 8am-5pm with after hours access for Camp Street Apt. owners and renters. Chris Park is an ideal setting to take photos as the backdrop is just phenomenal. The trails can be a bit slippery when wet, so be careful if you are walking after the area has been watered. The park will soon be adding a type of seal to the concrete that will leave the trail safer.

I go hear when I want to take a breath, view art, or enjoy nature! The staff for the art Studio are so kind and informative! Also, very peaceful

This is a beautiful privately owned park in the Southtown/So Flo neighborhood of San Antonio. This park is own by the Linda Pace Foundation in honor of her son Chris. The park has his art work throughout the cement benches and grounds. The park is beautiful maintained with lush bamboo trees and colorful flowers-- a great location of family or engagement portraits. This is a beautiful, peaceful stop just south of the hustling, bustling Downtown.

Such a beautiful place. We visited from Washington state. Read about Chris Park online and made sure to visit. We went there alone on a Sunday. The place is peaceful and pristine. What a gem and such a heartfelt, beautiful tribute.

Gorgeous lush green park. Looks like dogs have to stay on leash though. Human RR available is a plus.

The only thing: it's really small... Like i'll be ready in 3 minutes walking around small! As far as the dog park part- it's dog friendly on a leash. Don't get me wrong i like it a lot. Maybe i was going to visit it every day if i was working in the building across the street for a lunch brake, but i've seen rooftop gardens bigger than this one!

I love walking my client's dogs here. The best part, they love it too!

Small but inviting and interesting. Doesn't look like much at the entrance but once you're inside it's lovely.

I visited in conjunction with Ruby city, and they had some art pieces in the park, such as sculptures.

There is also the Union Pacific splash pad which is only open during certain months of the year, so make sure to check their calendar for hours. They also have a sand play area, as well as another section with small games like ping pong, chess and many more games. Overall, this garden/park offers a wide range of outdoor activities for people of all ages. I've been taking my kid here since he was born and as he is growing and exploring new areas of Yanaguana I can truly see how well thought off this park is. To all the locals that don't travel to downtown too often, I would definitely recommend giving this park a chance before winter comes. Also, for all the tourists coming with little ones that need the space to run around for a couple of hours, this is most definitely the spot for you!

There's separate picnic tables by the Kimpton hotel side that's great for a quick meal too. Lots of splash pads and shaded areas with chairs for the parents to watch from a distance. Parking is going to be a challenge on the weekends but paid parking isn't too far away.

You can go there for a quick walk or do a few laps around the half mile loop. You can also take your food and have a picnic under the shade of the trees. Parking is available on site and there's plenty of it. The entrance is on one side and the exit is on the other side. There are restrooms available on site, but I didn't use them, so I don't know if they were clean. I would definitely return when I want a short walk in a shaded park.
