My wife joined in September of '16 for a 1 year contract. She tried to rejoin in September at a lower monthly rate and the manager said she could not do that. She left and assumed her membership would expire. The billed our credit card for several months until we noticed it. They said you have to sign something to end your membership. Huh? Anyway, I signed up the same time as my wife and easily had my rate changed. I figured she just talked to the wrong guy but ... I think they may me more amenable to men than women. I called after we discovered the credit card issue and the manager could not have been nicer over the phone and said he'd note her account for when she came in. He fixed it for her but she said he was extremely condescending calling her 'young lady' over and over in a smartass kind of way (she's 60 and he's about 30). My wife (who is not a complainer) also tells me the 'guys' are sometimes hanging out in front of the reception desk 'talking' (dropping f-bombs and being totally unprofessional). I agree with one of the other reviewers who said the regime change caused the gym to go downhill. Please change the regime once again. Other than that the gym equipment is fine for the price. I like working out there. I don't need a personal tv. I prefer the price to be reasonable which it is. Mixed bag.

Where should I begin... This gym (or 'box' to the Crossfit world) is amazing!!! As a two year…read moreCrossfitter in Newport, RI to a 'thinking I could do it on my own for a couple years at a Planet Fitness"... I have nothing but high remarks for this gym and getting me back to the workouts I love/hate so much. I was hesitant for longer than I'd like to admit at getting back into Crossfit due to a) the cost [to be discussed]; b) the fact I felt out of 'crossfit shape'; and c) I didn't know a single crossfitting soul in the area... Let me work through each of these points... a) the cost- I feel like every person always looks up the cost for Crossfit, and if they have no experience with it, immediately look the other way. Let's just put that to rest. Crossfit may be more expensive than your typical gym membership, but it's also worth every.single.penny. And if you break it down, the cost per class is not only reasonable but cheaper than using a personal trainer. I justify it to myself this way... I'm investing in my well-being and health. Can I do this other places? Sure, but here, I have someone walking me through movements to make sure I am doing them correctly/efficiently and I have someone pushing me in a supportive fashion to reach individual goals. Also, in my justification process, I'm MUCH more apt to hold myself accountable to show up to class on a regular basis with a $ investment, than I am to go to other gyms which only takes $10-20 out of my pocket... b) Crossfit Shape- another theory to be put to rest immediately. This theory actually kept me from originally joining Crossfit altogether for way too long. There's no such thing. You show up, and the coaches work WITH you and modify movements as needed to build on. In my first classes here, I was SO nervous for some of the movements, as I hadn't done them in forever, but these coaches know how to settle those nerves instantly. Each movement is recapped prior to ever touching the bar regardless if they know every person in the class 'knows the movement/lift' or not. Step by step they go over the lifts and ask you to do each of those sections (most times with a PVC pipe) to ensure you are doing the movement correctly... once that is satisfied they'll add onto that movement and so forth... building you up to comfort using a barbell and adding weight as you can. It honestly doesn't matter if you're a beginner or a regular, I've never felt out of place even if the person next to me has the move mastered. The coaches work with you and your personal needs/strengths/weaknesses. [to be discussed more in a minute] c) Not knowing anyone- I consider myself a pretty outgoing/social person, but even I had nerves walking into the gym and not knowing a single soul. Amanda, the owner, immediately quashed those feelings. She greeted me as soon as I walked in, gave me a tour, introduced me to the classes coach and the butterflies disappeared. The Coach made sure I was introduced to everyone, and everyone was SO welcoming, to a point I felt as though I had been going here for months now. Crossfit Torque has been an amazing experience and I am so glad I decided to finally join and get back into it. The workouts will push you and test you, and make you finish thinking 'holy crap I just did that'. The coaches will work with you if you need modification on ANY movement. If you have any pains, they'll make sure you don't jump back into movements that could continue the injury until you're ready. There is legitimately all ages and skill levels here, and everyone is beyond supportive, and encouraging. I actually look forward to having my ass kicked daily. Crossfit Torque also offers for small fees additional opportunities for its members to learn and excel in certain skills should they so choose. They bring in additional coaches for Olympic Lifting, Dynamic Drive, Jump Rope, and other opportunities that benefit the members. This gym really is like an additional family, I can't say enough good things about them and the Crossfit community. Everyone jokes about Crossfit being a cult workout group and drinking the Crossfit Koolaid.. and it's really nothing more than a group of people, wanting to work their individual hardest, with a supportive group of people, under knowledgeable coaches... there's nothing cult-ish about it. I dare you to join and prove me wrong. So long story short :) If you're in the area or passing through... take the time to come and check out Crossfit Torque... I HIGHLY recommend them!

I have lived in many different places in this country, and have had the opportunity to belong to…read moremany different gyms. I gave OTF a shot because it's 2 miles from my new house, and I was curious. Boy, am I glad I took a chance! What a wonderful business, from several different standpoints. I was first impressed by the curb appeal. The location is great because they are tucked in a plaza that does not get over busy, and there is a plethora of parking at all times; you will never have an issue with that. The building and business is fairly new, so everything is also clean and appealing. It makes you want to go inside! Many gyms are the opposite of this... When you walk inside, it only improves from there. They have a nicely organized, bright and clean space. It's very inviting. The owner and staff clearly goes through a lot of effort to keep the place that way. They also never rest on their heels as far as marketing and promo ideas, and are constantly creating opportunities for their members (local coffee companies, brewery visits, etc...) I think that's great, and will also work towards creating a family-like atmosphere that so many gyms lack. This brings me to the staff. I have had nothing but positive experiences so far in my 3 weeks there. They are all positive, friendly, inviting and helpful. It starts at the top, and Marc the owner does a wonderful job choosing the right staff for the job. His Sergeant-at-arms, Tracey, also runs the gym well for him, and is awesome with all the clients. They all do a wonderful job at not only running a gym well, but fostering a positive and motivating environment. Now, to the main reason we're there in the first place: The experience. If you haven't experienced OTF workouts ( and everyone can, because your first workout is free!) the best way I could describe it is a cross between having a personal trainer and having a general open gym membership. The added benefit is that everyone is provided with an advanced heart rate monitor to wear through your workout, which provides you with constant and instantaneous feedback which you constantly monitor. The whole workout is predicated on the fact that you should be keeping your heart rate in certain zones for a certain amount of time. The beauty is that while you are working on your own and no one is looking over your shoulder constantly, the trainers motivate you and tell you what you should be doing and for how long. They give you the tools to achieve the desired affect. I find this incredibly helpful, and it takes the guesswork out of your workout. After each workout, you also see what you have accomplished, stat-wise, which motivates you for the next workout. Its just a great process, and the beauty is that no matter your fitness level, you can get something great out of this system. Overall, in my short time as a member, I am very happy, I feel motivated, and I feel comfortable and welcomed at OTF. If you are looking for a new gym, a change, or just are curious, check it out; you will not be disappointed!

Miss Emily, Mr. Ross, and all the YMCA staff were especially helpful. Our 40" ventriloquist puppet sang "We are all here in Foxboro and we say thank you". After our Tennis Ball puppet sang our version of "Happy Happy Birthday", everyone joined in singing the traditional "Happy Birthday" to the young boy who will celebrate his birthday this month. Special thanks to the children who joined us on stage today to play our tambourines, maracas, and drumsticks in tempo with our music. Some even volunteered to demonstrate their new ventriloquial skills after choosing a puppet of their choice from our big drum case. Volunteers were encouraged to say their first name into the microphone and try moving the puppet's mouth three times as they said "One, Two, Three" with their new puppet voice. We especially want to thank the male and female YMCA counselors who volunteered to be our HUMAN DUMMIES, wear our male and female ventriloquist face masks, and help us sing our "No Bully Zone" (No, they did not sing at the same time... we're not that good!)

Came here for a quick workout and sauna because it's the closest Y to the Wrentham Outlet Mall,…read morewhere I dropped off my friend for her shopping expedition. What amazed me: 1. The staff member working in the fitness area (moderately sized but very nice quality equipment and lots of natural light) was actually DOING SOMETHING, i.e. walking around and putting stuff back in their proper places! Never seen that at any other Y I've been to, where staff just stand around, fiddle with their phones, and generally just use up oxygen---unless they are personal trainers working with a paying client. Not only that, the guy actually noticed that I was new and came up to me, introduced himself and offered help if I ever needed any! Absolutely flabberghasting staff behavior for a YMCA, lol! If only every Y were like this. 2. The fairly new, spacious, and coed sauna next to the pool area (there are no longer single sex saunas in the locker rooms, I was told) was actually heated to a decent temperature (190F according to the thermometer hanging on the wall at chest level) AND had two levels of seating so you could actually get a decent sweat on, as opposed to some Ys that for some boneheaded reason have only a single low bench which is completely useless because duh, heat RISES so why in the hell would you want to be sitting so low when it's already maxed out at some wimpy 150F? (Cough cough, Melrose and Framingham YMCAs.) The disadvantage of a poolside sauna though is that it's a pain to go back and forth back to the locker room shower for a cold rinse every 10-15 minutes, as opposed to a locker room sauna---but this is not a fatal flaw. 3. The treadmills were by a brand called Matrix I had never seen before and I got on one hoping that it wouldn't totally suck like the Precor treadmills---happily, it did not, though I was disappointed at how tiny the screens were after being spoiled by the huge 24" screens of the Life Fitness treadmills at my home Y in Cambridge. BUT it had one beautiful feature the big fancy LF treadmills lacked: a built in cooling fan at the top of the console, which was absolutely delightful! Wish this feature were standard on EVERY piece of gym cardio equipment, lol. Only a few minior gripes about this place: - Almost all the stationary bikes were the geriatric recumbent kind. No Keiser bikes, which are the only ones with decent ergonomics and that actually feel like you're pedaling a real bike. - Kettlebells are few and max out at 22kg, which is barely enough for one handed swings and presses, but much too light for loaded carries or two handed swings. - Oh and it'd be nice if they had some hanging boxing bags, or at least one. This is one of the things that sets the Cambridge Y apart: an abundance of free-hanging real boxing bags, not the useless water-base standing bags. This gym appears to have neither. Overall though, this is a very good Y and I will be sure to return next time I'm in the area!

They stink and they're in it for the money. The classes are pretty good, but so overbooked and it's hard to get into them unless you're really early. The equipment is pretty nice and they seem to be on top of replacing things, but sometimes the handles are worn and not replaced. Here's the worst part (for the gym, I think)...the people who run this place have NO clue what is going on in their gym. I used to walk in repeatedly without scanning my pass and no one ever questioned me at all. Then, a year later, out of the blue, I had a manager ask if she could see some I.D. I told her I had been attending for over a year and never had my membership questioned. She said, "well, I've never seen you...what's your name?" I knew her name and I also knew she just sat in her office or did a once around the gym....ugh, so rude. The owners since have been just as clueless and the people behind the desk just watch Cash Cab for hours on end. I give an A++++++ to the cleaning crew who deserve a heck of a lot more respect and clout than anyone who works the desk or management. This gym is out of the way for anyone in the town and has been said before, on any game day is hard to get to. I don't like world's gym either, but they are closer and at least the management knows the names of the people there.
