Despite the shorter session, I still felt like I got a great workout. The class was completely full, yet I still felt like I had room to workout both on the floor and at the barre. The studio is very clean and well maintained and all of the props are also like new. The instructor was very clear on how to do each exercise and came around to give adjustments, as needed. I love the combination of cardio, yoga, Pilates and ballet that the class provided. I even love how the short class still ends in a quick meditation to allow you to leave the class more relaxed. I like how they have a little store there where you can purchase some workout clothes. They even have a babysitting area to make it easy and accessible for parents who want to workout. Parking was very easy in the 2 hour free lot behind the studio. Just make sure to look for signs to ensure you aren't in a permitted spot! About six months ago I made the switch over to Crossfit Boston Iron and Grit and it has been…read moreeverything I was looking for in a Crossfit gym and more. Here are the reasons why: The Coaches: There are four main coaches- Owner Tina, Brian, Miguel, and Mel- and they are all top-notch. They are a dedicated, knowledgeable, and dedicated to their craft. No matter whether a class has 2 or 15 people in it, they make sure each member is getting the coaching he/she needs to participate safely, get a great workout in, push themselves, and get a great workout in. Each coach also brings his/her own style and expertise, so if you get a chance to work with all of them you get a great all-around experience. The Community: There is a great mix of people here- old and young, from elite athletes to day-one beginners. The common thread is everyone welcomes and encourages everyone else no matter what level they are at. Coming from another Crossfit gym, it would have been easy to feel like an outsider for a while. Not here. People were friendly, encouraging and immediately treated me like I was part of their gym. From the start I have made friends and look forward to talking to them before and after class as much as the actual workout! Countless Intangibles: In the short time I have been there they have renovated, added to their rig, and brought in multiple orders of equipment. This reinvestment in the gym shows- it is in GREAT shape. The gym is clean, equipment is organized, there are three clean showers (separate from the bathrooms) with towels and toiletries provided. There is always a community event to look forward to- from charity workouts/fundraisers to nutrition, weightlifting, or running challenges to pot-luck parties. There is a wide range of hours (including classes on Sunday) and I haven't seen anyone turned away from a class yet. Whether you are curious about trying Crossfit for the first time or maybe you are an experienced Crossfitter and are thinking about changing boxes, I am convinced Crossfit BIG is the right fit for everyone.

Before pregnancy I was encouraged, coached, pushed, and supported by the coaches. The coaches make classes feel like it's an individual experience even in a big group. They call people by their names and they are so knowledgable, and attentive, always keeping safety as a top priority. They encourage you to do what is best for you. When I got pregnant they came up with whatever workout worked for me, especially when I got bigger. Miguel and Brian, two of my favorite coaches, were ALWAYS checking on me. I loved how Miguel never treated me like the pregnant lady. He believed in my ability to finish workouts, in the meantime asking about my heart rate, correcting my positions and encouraging me. Because I used to go to the 5:30am class (before it got too popular), Miguel was the primary coach so I can't speak for ALL coaches, but I've had classes with them all and enjoyed all classes. Life is busy and I don't go as often as I'd like to, but I'm still enrolled because I love the classes and I enjoy working out there.

There was an iPad/tablet set up by the front desk where I was able to check myself in. I was not sure where the class was located but staff was very helpful and walked me downstairs to the spin class. Their upstairs/main level seemed to be where all the machines are and yoga/pilates classes. The gym was actually a lot bigger than I thought. Downstairs was where spin classes are held and they had a women's locker room down there as well. The locker room was clean, had showers, hairdryers, etc. This was the first spin class I have taken that was not through SoulCycle and the bikes were a little different but similar enough that I was able to figure it out. Overall, not a bad class. I'm used to a bit more choreography on the handle bars but still a nice class! I would totally switch to this gym if only they were open a little later because I do enjoy working out at night sometimes. Parking is a little tricky in this area. If there's not a spot on the main street (Granite), I would check on the side of Bruegger's Bagels or on Adams St.

True Performance Training came as recommendation from a friend, and Filipe Cotas (the owner and…read moretrainer) did not disappoint! I was looking for someone who would work with my 14 year-old brother on the 5x5 program that his school had assigned for the upcoming soccer session. Filipe was fantastic. He modified the program to better fit my brother's soccer needs and was incredibly patient and down-to-earth. My brother worked with him for about 8 weeks (roughly 3x a week)and felt huge difference during tryouts. The facility is brand new and well equipped plus Filipe's pricing is incredibly reasonable. You pay as you go and there is no need to sign up for an annoying gym membership. Here is what my brother has to say about his time with Filipe: Filipe not only helped me to become a stronger person but a more determined one, as his deep knowledge of fitness combined with his welcoming personality and unending patience created an environment of hard work and perseverance. His emphasis on proper form taught me the importance of not only the weight of what I was lifting but the technique I was using to lift that weight. Additionally, Filipe did not judge me but rather encouraged me to keep going when I made mistakes, giving me pointers to do so, all leading me to not only obtaining the strength I needed but the knowledge and work ethic to continue to develop. So in closing, Filipe's knowledge and understanding of fitness not only create a friendly environment to work out in but a mindset centered on hard work and dedication. P.S. - I recommend arriving 5 minutes early for sessions to accommodate yourself before Filipe starts working with you. Also, do not be afraid to speak up if you are not certain about something, at any point during your work out. Finally, push yourself -- no matter how exhausting it may be, Filipe will be right be your side to encourage you the whole way.
