Bowling

I have tried the variety of food options. We have bowled and played virtual golfed. Listen to live music. Drank from the Tap bar. This place offers just about everything in one place. Definitely a must if you're in Downtown Winston Salem. Service was great, servers were very attentive.

We attended a private event upstairs at Roar. This was for admitted students to a university in the NC system. I had never heard of the venue, but it was very cool! All sorts of games, bays with virtual sports, bowling, table games, and lots of food upstairs near our event. Downstairs was more of a bar area plus some more games. The food was catered by roar and this is why I'm giving it 4 stars. It could have been the selection available, or cost savings by the planner, but it was very lack luster. Put it this way, fudge rounds were in a shading dish. The staff was very nice! They encouraged us enjoy ourselves and refilled the trays. I would like to return on a weekend night during a non-sponsored event and try it again. I would describe it as Greensboro's bourbon bowl meets Dave and busters.

I want to like roar because they have great ideas but man does it all fall flat. We recently went for twisted putter and it was fun but the lights were on so it wasn't really glow in the dark. They changed the upstairs food hall (wasn't really a food hall) and made it into an arcade. It seems like they have limited staff so it took people a while to get drinks. Overall, I'd go back for the bull pin bowling and the twisted putter but that's about it.

Strawberry Pineapple Texas Style Margarita, you gotta try it and you'll thank me later!

I love a good food hall! This place doesn't stay quite as packed as I would like to see, but I love it here and I hope it survives finicky Winston-Salem. 3 levels and a rooftop, very spacious. Let's get into the food and drinks. I love margaritas and the bartender at Tequila never disappoints, so while my to go order is being prepared I enjoyed a Strawberry Pineapple Texas Style Margarita. Another fav for me here is the grilled shrimp, OMG so, so good, make sure to try the elote corner as a side with cilantro lime rice.

I love food halls because you can have so many choices in one However the choices and food quality at Roar left me lacking on dinner last night. I went with the fam-bam to an almost empty food hall, but Wednesday evening in WS sometimes is slow. I got a single patty mushroom Blue cheeseburger for $11 and his $4 side of fries from Joey Corrells American. It was okay, but not $15 okay when there are so many other restaurants for less. My wife ordered the Margherita pizza at Est Est Est. It was a cheese pizza and not a Margherita so be aware of that if you know what a Margarita pizza is and what to expect. For a cheese oily individual $12 pizza it was overpriced and underwhelming. The beer wall was good, but yeah...not really that impressed to have me come back.

Good: The mini-bowling was awesome, staff was really friendly and available. For 4 of us it took about 40 minutes for a game. It was clean. Mixture of kids and classy date nights... the ambiance was odd, like they couldn't decide to be a speak easy or a chucky cheese. Disappointing: The food ... is low level cafeteria level pizza and same for the nachos. I really was expecting a higher level of food options. The simulator area was missing so much, I wish there was an archery option. I'd suggest for 4 of you, 1hr is plenty here. Bar area, they really need a menu, good quality options but no cocktail menu. No food or beverage delivery; you just have to "guess" when the food is ready and go get it, and for drinks, if you are on another floor with the bowling and simulator, you will need to find a bar, versus delivery or close bar options.

Went to Roar for the food hall. I felt like pizza so ordered the margherita pizza at Est Est Est. It should have just been called a "cheese" pizza. The dough was light and airy but when I order a Margherita pizza, I expect a mozzarella melt in your mouth pizza with a light marinera sauce and basil. This was just a cheese oily individual $12 pizza. My husband was underwhelmed by his $11 mushroom Blue cheese burger and his $4 side of fries from Joey Corrells American St food. I did try his fries though and thought they were kinda amazing. My son ordered biria tacos at Centenario and was very pleased. We did the beer wall which had a lot of options and the beer was nice and cold. Upstairs was entertainment such as music and bowling. I did not go upstairs so I'm reviewing based on our food experience only. Would we come back?....mehhhhh...maaaybe. Really not sure, I wasn't blown away.

Twisted Putter: Prepare to level up your mini-golf game like never before at The Twisted Putter located in the basement of ROAR! Step into a world where traditional mini-golf meets cutting-edge technology for an unforgettable gaming experience. The Twisted Putter takes mini-golf to a whole new level with their state-of-the-art electronic courses. Say goodbye to the traditional windmills and obstacles--here, you'll find interactive challenges, stunning visuals, and immersive gameplay that will keep you on your toes. Whether you're a seasoned mini-golf pro or a beginner looking for a unique gaming adventure, The Twisted Putter has you covered. Bring your friends, challenge each other to epic battles, and see who can conquer the electronic courses and claim victory. So, grab your putter, unleash your competitive spirit, and embark on a mini-golf journey like no other at The Twisted Putter in Winston-Salem. Get ready for a gaming experience that will leave you craving more! Each course will cost you $15, and there are 7 holes per course. The courses are interesting because rather than counting strokes, it's based on how fast you can putt the golf ball in the hole, which makes sense since their goal is to expedite the players and have groups move through each hole quickly. I spent about 20 minutes per course in a party of 3 people. There is a full service bar there but it wasn't in service when I visited. There was also a beer wall where you can get draft beer. Overall a unique experience! FOLLOW @zackaryeats for more Winston-Salem foodie finds

Overpriced, not much of a variety. Drinks were average and food wasn't anything you couldn't eat elsewhere.

Food was okay. Beers on tap doesn't have dark beer, just light hoppy beer. Ew. Could be better about the food though.

Spotted Cow Steakhouse - New York Strip, baked potatoe, and green beans

Spotted Cow Steakhouse

For a birthday dinner, I love a good steakhouse but wanted to try something new away from my usual…read morespots, and my wife suggested Spotted Cow. When we first walked in, it was busy and we heard the hostess tell the couple in front of us they would need to wait over an hour for a table - Lucky for me my wife made reservations and we were seated immediately! It was a bit on the noisy side but not so bad we couldn't have a conversation. Our servers, Thomas, was fantastic start to finish with good recommendations, attentive service without being overbearing, and a great personality. Good staff make a business shine! We started with glasses of wine and were impressed with how generous they poured. Perhaps it was a visual illusion, but they felt like very large glasses of wine and made it feel like a very good value. They have a good selection of wines to choose from along with a full bar. Appetizer was the Crab Cake Egg Rolls, something I don't think I've seen anywhere else. They're cooked in Beef Tallow which gave a very savory flavor and crispy texture. They were a bit on the oily side but overall flavor was delicious, and I really liked the dipping sauce which was like a very herb-heavy tartar sauce. For entrees, my wife had the Filet and I had a New York Strip. I don't have the words to describe how delicious and perfectly prepared both of these were. I didn't even bother asking for steak sauce because the perfectly tender and seasoned steak didn't need it. Nobody wants to pay high prices for a steak and receive something low quality, and I was thrilled with the quality of the steaks here. Surrounding tables likewise had great looking meals and I overheard them voicing pleasure too. As sides go, the baked potatoes and salads were excellent too. I got the hot bacon vinegarette dressing and was surprised it was actually served quite hot. It had a really rich and slightly tangy flavor that was unique and I really enjoyed on my salad. I have no complaints here and will absolutely be back. Of course it's on the pricey end, but this is the type of establishment you reserve for a special night out, not your average Tuesday night. Give it a try and you won't be disappointed!

To be fair none of us ordered steak... at a steakhouse, so that could have been our issue. Our server was really friendly and attentive. We did have a small mishap and one friend's meal was forgotten and came out late, but the atmosphere was so pleasant and we were enjoying chatting so it was easy to overlook. Don't leave without ordering the cream corn. Just trust us.

I didn't realize that I'd not written a review of this fine seafood spot for quite a while now…read more This is the premier fried seafood spot in triad area in my opinion, stretching from Mebane to Mocksville, from the Virginia line in the north to at least Salisbury in the south. I stop in here for lunch at least twice a month. This is a family operation that began in 2006 when George Paloumbas remodeled a John Deere dealership building, turning it into a casual seafood restaurant, that at the time was in the middle of nowhere. Despite the location, the restaurant prospered, attracting folks from Burlington to Mocksville, and north to the Virginia line, south to Salisbury! Jimmy Shipman, the current general manage, had been a customer for a number of years, often dining with his grandmother. He started busing tables there about 2015, married George Paloumbas' daughter, Maria, in 2019, and was made general manager in 2020. He guided the restaurant through the Covid time frame by concentrating on providing efficient take out orders. He had to hire someone to direct the traffic, it was so popular. This is certainly a family and community operation - a number of the employees have Been there for years, and much that the restaurant sells is sourced in the region. Seafood from Todd's Seafood in Thomasville, and deserts from Cake & All Things Yummy. I almost always get fried seafood, although the Broiled Captain's Platter is very nice as well. My favorite item is the bone-in croaker!

Yummmm!!! I'm always happy when I get to go eat seafood at The Seafood Shack in Walkertown!…read more Be ready for a small wait if it's a Sunday afternoon. It gets quite busy. The wait is worth it. The onion rings are good - I forgot to request extra crispy, but since I didn't finish them, I took them home and used the air fryer to rewarm them the next day. Man they were greasy (thank you air fryer for caring for my arteries)!!! But very crisp like I like. I'm not one for a lot of batter in my seafood, so I opted for the salt & peppered version. It's a lot lighter and tastes good seeing it is the only seasoning you'd need on fish. This visit I opted to try the broiled jumbo shrimp with my combo (with an up charge) and I'm so glad I did!! I think next time I'll get a broiled platter and skip the fryer! Seasoning was delicious!! #OldBay Looking forward to another visit soon.
