We stayed 2 nights in early July. We were really looking forward to our stay, which was our first time in Munising. We reserved their best suite, which was a wonderful room. But for $435 a night (including tax), in a small northern Michigan town, we were very disappointed. That is a boutique hotel price, and while the room was really nice, this is far from a boutique hotel. The balcony of our room overlooked a very busy/noisy road and the roof of the local high school across the street (though the lake was visible beyond the school, through the power lines along the street). There is no hotel lobby or entrance - we had to drag our luggage up a flight of stairs, and then through the restaurant/bar (both the outdoor and indoor seating) to get to the stairs that led up to our room. We had to take the same route each time we entered or exited the hotel. So when returning from a swim in the lake several times, dressed in swim suits and towels, with sand on our feet, we had to endure the gaze of tables of people eating dinner. The restaurant/bar was right below the room, which made the room noisy at night - it was like having a hotel room above a bar. We turned the fan on high, and could still hear the voices downstairs and outside for a while as we went to sleep. There was also no privacy on the balcony of our room - when we sat outside, we looked down at the people eating on the patio and they looked up at us. On smaller issues, there was no one to help with suggestions for local activities; when I asked for things to do, they told me I could get information in town. When we checked in, the restaurant hostess had to call a number to get someone to help us, and that person was not very friendly. I will say the hostess, who we saw regularly as we entered and exited the hotel through the restaurant/bar, was very nice. Bottom line, while we liked the room, the price was way too high for what we received, and we would not stay there again. read more
