Roadhouse came highly recommended by friends of ours that have relatives in town. We were in Green Lake camping for the weekend so we went on a Friday night to check it out. The service was pretty quick and the pizza was amazing. The place was recently remodeled and is very open, warm and inviting. We got our drinks promptly and our appetizers were hot and fresh. I was astonished at how the cheese curds are not at all greasy! Our son raved about the fried pickles. The pizzas were out of this world and worth twice the wait - which was surprisingly short for a Friday night. We ordered a Hawaiian which was perfectly balanced on all ingredients as well as a meat pizza (pepperoni, bacon, sausage, hamburger) and it was a delight as well. The real surprise was how light the meat pizza was - no grease and the taste was out of this world. All of this made an already reasonable bill for a group of seven even more of a deal. We drive past Roadhouse Pizza often, and finally made a plan to stop in for pizza. Walking in, I was surprised to find mod looking light wood booths and tables in an airy space. The restaurant, which used to be Gus' Pizza, with the pizza prep area in the front window, was reconfigured and remodeled several years ago. We sat at the bar and boards on the wall noted drink specials, food specials, and mocktails. They also had about 10 draft beers available. We ordered some garlic cheese bread, and I had a red wine while we waited for our pepperoni sausage pizza. If seated at the bar, you can order there, otherwise there is a station where you can order and then head to a table to wait for your food or wait to grab carryout. They had two double deck ovens, and were busy, but our service was attentive. The dining area was full early on a Saturday night with families and sports teams. Our pizza, with house made crust, and hand seasoned sauce had delicious flavors with a sausage nugget carefully placed on each pepperoni slice. Despite the name, Roadhouse Pizza also features hoagies, sandwiches, burgers, and more. If I lived closer I would be a regular patron at Roadhouse for sure. read more

Stopped in here tonight for some Dinner on the way home from work, and left completely stuffed and satisfied! I ordered a sausage and peperoni pizza and honestly did not expect it to be so much food, and so filling. I've been coming to this iconic pizza joint since I was a kid. Absolutely AMAZING. Stellar pizza. GREAT location amongst beautiful historic buildings- all architectural gems. The classic unchanged neon sign hanging outside is to me as important as the Eiffel Tower. I made a large carryout order at Roadhouse Pizza while visiting family in Ripon, so this review is focuses more on the food than the dining environment or the level of service. While the food quality had its high points and low points, portion sizes were generous and we fed our group of eight for less than $50. Since this is a pizza joint, let's talk 'za. If you enjoy a crispy crust, you definitely appreciate the crunchy cracker-thin crust served at Roadhouse. Despite an overly generous dose of tomato sauce, the crust in the interior of the pie maintained its crunch. The crust did not provide much flavor - it could have benefitted from a little more browning. The dull, thick tomato sauce slathered on the pizza overwhelmed the thin crust and toppings - there needs to be better balance between the sauce, crust and toppings. The sauce lacked an element of brightness, tasting more like heavily season tomato paste than fresh tomatoes. Roadhouse was a little stingy with the quantity of toppings with this order, with a light application of cheese and sausage. Unlike the sauce, the sausage needed a heavier hand with the seasoning. The cheese quality was above average from a flavor and stinginess standpoint. Though far from perfect, Roadhouse still provides the best pizza in town. Roadhouse is more than just pizza - they offer a full menu of appetizers, burgers and sandwiches. My sister-in-law enjoyed her juicy bacon cheeseburger on a lightly toasted bun. The only negative was the limp, thinly cut slice of bacon - a thick slice of crispy bacon would have made this burger truly special. The quality of my daughter's grilled cheese sandwich was disappointing with a slab of American cheese between a couple slices of grocery-store white bread. This is the heart of America's Dairyland; the kitchen can do better than this uninspired effort. The fried appetizers were typical freezer to fryer fare, but were well prepared. The mozzarella sticks had the right batter to cheese ratio and the broccoli bites, a breaded concoction of cheese whiz and broccoli, brought on a wave of nostalgia for my mom's broccoli casserole. Other than an error on my brother's grinder sandwich (it came with mushrooms instead of bacon he wanted), the ordering process went smoothly and our order was waiting for us when we arrived to pick it up. For a small town pizza joint this place had some interesting and out of the ordinary topping choices. We tried the Radiccio parmesan pizza that included parsnip (I did say out of the ordinary) and caramelized shallots. The crust was very crisp, which I really like. There was also balsamic in the pizza. Overall good flavor but the parmesan could have been more thinly shaved and the balsamic was a bit heavy. Drinks seemed crazy cheap and the bartender was on the ball with service. The atmosphere as casual, clean and I'm sure we will be back. read more

Roadhouse is totally remodeled, clean and modern vs the five of my college days. The pizza is the same as I remember think crackery crust,slightly spicy sauce, good cheese and very wisconsinesque toppings links sausage and mushroom. Had a Spotted Cow with friends and an appetizer of cheese curds. The accompanying bbq sauce is a bit thicker and not quite the same but close enough. Split the turkey sub with my friend and we were transformed to college daze which was aided by a jagermeister shot. Still good and a Ripon classic despite the snazzy new digs. read more

Well this place sucks! We ordered chicken Wings and a Burger and fries that took 2 hours! They said it would be about One hour and 35 minutes! Then 35 minutes later they brought our order. The chicken wings were tiny as a pinky next time I rather not lazy and go to past time to get actual good chicken wings! Also the burger did not have mushrooms or onions and we pacifically said to put mushroom onions and bacon the only thing they put on there was the bacon in the cheese and meat. The only they got right was the pound of fries! We may never order from here again! I've been here twice and ordered a gluten free pizza both times. I appreciate when local restaurants offer gluten free options. The first time the edges of the crust were a little burnt and the second time the center was a little under cooked, but I still enjoyed the pizza both times. read more

I don't go to Ripon often, but I will definitely be making this my first stop when I'm in town. The inside is brightly lit, and has an extensive bar with some really surprisingly varied beers in their selection. I haven't had Dogfish beer in ages, and they have it. That's worth a star right there. I ordered the Aloha sandwich, which was perfectly portioned and delicious. My friends all enjoyed their orders too, and nobody had a single complaint. We originally were going to stay just for a meal, but we ended up talking to the bartender and staying for hours. You just can't beat that kind of service and friendly attitude. Not only was he friendly and attentive, he offered to make us specials, and if we didn't like them, he'd make us something new, on him. We never were able to take him up on that offer, since everything he served up was fantastic. I never thought one of my favorite old fashions would be from a pizza/restaurant joint in Ripon Wisconsin, but life is strange sometimes. There's plenty of room for large groups, and an upstairs area with a bar as well, so no matter what you're intown for, a quick meal, or an event, they can cater to whatever you need. This is exactly the place to get a start on your night, and put you in a good mood before you go out. I'm not in town often, but I will be going back to Roadhouse when I am. read more

I'm scared every time I walk in this place. No, the staff aren't horrific and the food is all good, but what is up with that messed up witch or troll painting!? Gives me the heebie-jeebies always. And the down stairs bathroom? I swear somebody is going to pop out of the stall wearing a scream mask and stab me into pieces! But I'm kind of a wuss, I'll admit. But even if you're a wuss like me you still need to eat here (or maybe just takeout?) for the food itself. This place is basically run by college students and has that appeal going for it. The pizza is thin crust and is fantastic -- oh, and make sure you get double cheese. The sandwiches are huge and just as good as the pizza, and the cheese puffs and sauce.. the best. Aside from the scary witch whom haunts my dreams and a bathroom reminiscent of a horror flick's opening killing scene, this place is absolutely top notch. Must go-to if you're in Ripon. read more

I would have to try a few more of their pies to say that they are a five star but my guess is, they probably are. Our pie was 15 dollars which was cheap for what we got. Loved it. Went back. Have to lower them a star. Didn't care for some of the staff attitude. Somewhat detached. The crust was not as good as last time. Still ok. We recently were staying in Ripon and stopped by to get some pizza to take back to our hotel. We ordered a supreme pizza and a cheese, sausage and pepperoni. As we waited for our pizza we sat at the bar and had a drink. They have a huge selection of craft/specialty beers. Just about anything you could ask for, and they change it up several times throughout the year. Roadhouse is an upscale towny restaurant and bar. The food is great and they always have a great beer selection. They recently renovated their building and it looks amazing. The servers are super friendly and are always on the ball. My personal favorites are the cheeseburgers and aloha pizza. PS. I've never had a better cheeseburger anywhere else. read more

So I would like to start by saying that roadhouse has been a true icon in ripon history. No matter the owner we have always loved having their pizza. I recently called to order pizza and found they were closed and getting ready to open under new ownership. so we waited the week and called to order our favorite pizza. We ordered a roadhouse, sausage & mushroom and a cheese pizza. The last 2 came just fine but the iconic roadhouse pizza was missing toppings. It was missing green olives and was extremely light on green pepper and onion. I called to talk with one of the new owners or a manager and was told neither was present. How can you not have one of the owners or a manager there at a crucial time as opening under new management? So I told the lady who answered the phone that my pizza was not right and was not offered anything, no replacement or coupon to try the food again or not even I am sorry your food was not right. If this is the start to the new ownership, we truely are in big trouble. such a great loss to ripon's history. read more

As previously noted in many of my reviews, I am a pizza snob. Having been to Ripon many times now - our son is a student at the college - I've always driven/walked past this place and been singularly unimpressed thinking it a very old school, small town, pizza, and bad Italian joint. You know the type: Worn linoleum, faded prints of the Italian countryside, banquet chairs with ripped vinyl covers, etc., etc. Well, Roadhouse is definitely NOT that. Went last Sunday with my wife, son, his girlfriend, and his friend. Atmosphere and decor are cool: Kind of muted Scandinavian clean/modern, with sports prints and photos on the walls. Beer selection is so big that it took me three minutes (no joke) to read the board. And they're unique beers, mostly microbrews from Wisconsin, so all good there. You need to order up front when you walk in, they give you a number, and you take it back to your table. Drinks are ordered directly from the bar. We got three pizzas, all of which were FANTASTIC. Crust was thin and super crispy. Sauce was sweet, tomatoey, and slightly spicy. Ingredients we had were all very fresh. Pepperoni and sausage were sufficiently spicy that I didn't feel the need to load up my slices with crushed red pepper (which I always do). Staff were super helpful, attentive, and friendly, even though the place was completely full. I will most definitely go back. read more
