I set up an appointment to get several things sharpened, I texted 30 min prior to my appointment to let them know I was coming, I got no reply and then showed up to my appointment where there was a note on their door saying to not ring the doorbell so I texted to let them know I was there, again no reply. I then waiting for someone to come out for almost 10 min before driving off, I still haven't heard back from them. It was horrible weather to be driving around in and for them to ignore me is very unprofessional. I don't not recommend doing business with them. read more

I was looking for a local business to sharpen my steak and kitchen knives. I ran across Ray with Roadrunner who is at the Farmers Market on Sunday here in Bakersfield. He explained the process of sharpening my knives and gave me several tips in how to help keep them sharp and store them. He was very easy to do business with and sharpened all of my knives within just a couple of hours while we enjoyed the market. His prices are also very reasonable. I can't wait to use my newly sharpened knives. An excellent experience from start to finish. read more

Ray was very professional, he did a great job sharpening my shears, such a smooth hassle free transaction! Would definitely recommend!!! 10 out of 10!!! read more

I have used these folks to sharpen my expensive hand forged kitchen knives a few times. I also sometimes bring them my stainless stuff. They take the time to discuss options with you and teach you about knife care. Their work is top notch. I used to go see them at the farmers markets but had been missing them since COVID. They also do sharpening for restaurants and I was able to meet them when they were near my house. Communication via email and text message was great. Very reasonable prices. read more

Good work, explained the sharpening process, asked questions about the blade, and communicated work progress via text. The work was performed at the Ming ave farmers Market -- 2 knives took about 1.5 hours -- just enough time to explore around the Marketplace or run errands. The finished knives were SHARP -- will be taking my knives here as needed in the future. read more

Needed major work on a kitchen knife and some yard hand shears. Emailed Roadrunner to see what their work arrangement was under Covid19. He responded by email the next day, then moved to text. It worked out for me to drop the knives off at his house (near Buena Vista & Stockdale) and pick them up the next day, although he was willing to sharpen while I ran errands. Roadrunner is a trailer behind a pickup that is his mobile shop. Normally he sharpens for restaurants, gardening services, commercial kitchens and food processing plants during the week. On weekends he is at the farmers markets. Business is slow because many of his customers are not working, so look through that knife drawer and have a good look at your yard tools and take 'em all to Roadrunner. Get the 'edge' of a real pro. read more

10/9/22. Took 3 expensive knives in for "professional" sharpening. Two German, one handmade Japanese Santoku. German knives have a 22 degree edge, Japanese has a 17 degree edge. Told them the specific angles and to please be careful and sharpen to specifications. Operator machine ground all 3 to 20 degree edges. German knifes now pull against meats and have significant friction. Will need to be whetstoned to try and restore edge. I could do a better job with a simple electric sharpener. Japanese knife has a distinct warp to the edge, does not release food and has been rendered useless. Will have to ship the knife back to the manufacturer to attempt to have the edge restored. This will cost hundreds to restore this blade; this may not be possible without destroying the blades temper. Do not take anything more expensive than Costco steak knives and certainly no professional cutlery to this business. They clearly have no idea what they are doing and are not a professional sharpening service. read more

I run a mobile grooming van in the kern county area and I am so happy I happened upon road runner sharpening. Ray and his lovely wife met me at a time that worked for my schedule he explained how the process worked returned my equipment even let me test it out and they did such a fantastic job! I won't ever use anyone else and feel so blessed to have found them! Cannot wait to start my work week knowing my stuff is clean sharp and ready to go! Thanks again guys!! read more

I ran into Roadrunner sharpening at the Brimhall Farmers Market one Saturday morning. They were very friendly and gave me a price list. I really needed my knives sharpened- home sharpeners just don't keep a good edge on the knife and makes them prematurely wear down. So I went back with the two knives I use the most. In 20 minutes my knives were finished and now have a beautiful sharp edge on them. She even took the sharp spot off one of the handles from when my son burned it years ago. They are friendly, and provide an excellent service for a very fair price (and being a frugal person I don't say that much). I was very happy with my visit and I"m so glad I found them, I've been looking for a place to get my knives sharpened and I wouldn't have to leave them for a week, since I moved to Bakersfield. An example of the prices are- Kitchen knives are 4 to 6 dollars depending on the size and a serrated knife is 6 dollars. Household scissors are 7 dollars and they also do profession sheers but an estimate is required for those. They are at the Brimhall Farmers Market Saturdays from 9am to 1pm, and at the Haggin Oaks Farmers Market on Sundays from 9am to 2pm. They do a great job and they are so nice and friendly. Carmen and Ray came to my to home to sharpen five of my knives. I am very particular about who I let sharpen knives. I usually package them up and send them to a company in Seattle for sharpening because I could never find anyone in the local area I would trust. After reading the reviews for Roadrunner and talking to Carmen, I could tell they were well versed in their trade. They actually did a better job than the company in Seattle and charged far less. Excellent work. I highly recommend them. Not only are they masters at what they do but they're a wonderful couple. So accommodating. Especially now with the Covid virus pandemic. read more

What a great service! I have been needing to have our knife block sharpened for months and finally stumbled on this company. I couldn't be happier! Ray & Carmen were extremely professional, considerate, and friendly! My knives were picked up and delivered so quick too. Now they're just as sharp as the first time we bought them! I will definitely be using their services again in the future!!! read more

Love them! This should be your go-to for knife sharpening in town. Extremely friendly couple with great service!!

I really impressed on the great job! Sharp knifes , shears and clippers! I highly recommend and very affordable

"What a wonderful experience" I had bookmarked Road Runner Professional Sharpening a while back and I am glad I did. This past Sunday I went to the Farmers Market that is located at the Kaiser on Ming Avenue. I took in several knifes to have sharpened and meet Ray. What a great guy. Very knowledgeable in his field to say the least. The pricing is I would say below average and the quality of the sharpening is outstanding. Really a great experience overall. Ray quoted me a price and the time my knifes would be done and they were done sooner than quoted. When I picked them up Ray went out of his way to explain how to take care of them so they will last longer between sharpening. Thank you Ray!! Highly recommended! read more

Great service , good advice. Ray is the go to guy for knife sharpening, knows his business and s affordable. Don't shop around, he's the man

This couple Ray and Carmen are honorable people. They come to your house!!! They sharpen with confidence everything you give them to sharpen. If they can't sharpen an item, they don't fake it. ( my clippers were bent). They had my good Cutco knife, scissors, small scissors and yard clippers... and I am pleased with everything! They even bring them back to your home! Great service. Nice people! read more

We were at the Farmer's market on Saturday and stopped by their booth. Ray spent a lot of time explaining what they do and how they do it. I was very impressed with his knowledge and the steps the go through to measure the correct angle of the edge and how they set up the equipment to sharpen the knife. He gave me a flyer, and mentioned they do professional accounts during the week and may be able to bring his trailer by the house and do the sharpening there if it was more convenient for us. That evening I was still thinking about our conversation, so I packed up our Kitchen knives. Sunday we went to the other Farmer's market and dropped them off with him. He sent me a text when they were done. (Which, by the way, was earlier than promised!) When we picked them up, he went over in detail how to care for the knives to preserve their edge. He demonstrated how to properly use a sharpening steel, and provided other useful and helpful tips. I'm a bit of a foodie and have taken chef classes and he taught me some things I didn't know. They really don't need to do that. It's probably better for their business if we abuse our knives and have to have them sharpened more often. But, both he and his wife treat you more like a neighbor, or family, which is why they will get our repeat business. We highly recommend them! read more

I moved from Atlanta where I was spoiled by having a local dog grooming tool sharpener and repairer who had a brick and mortar store I could visit anytime. When I moved to Bakersfield, I couldn't find ANYONE local. There was a nice gentleman from another city to who drove an hour every two weeks but I saw Road Runner driving one day and jotted their number down. I have never had better customer service or been this happy with the work put into sharpening my scissors and blades. I won't use anyone else. I own a grooming salon and they are now sharpening everyone's equipment! They are also the NICEST people you will ever meet. They are thorough and explain everything to you before they do it. They don't nickel and dime you and they guarantee their work! Now that I've found them I won't use anyone else! read more

Ray the owner & his wife had a very friendly upbeat professional attitude at the haggin oaks farmers market on Ming this past Sunday. Got kitchen scissors, fishing scissors, fishing knife & a plethora of different size kitchen knives sharpened by him. As usual it was busy so dropped the knives off and picked them up after he called around 2pm to let me know they were done. Professionally sharpened knives had a very nice clean razor edge to them. A bonus was having him educate on how to properly use a sharpening steel. Nice humble guy. Highly recommend him next time u need ur blades sharpened. P.s that la rosa ice cream really hits the spot in this heat. read more

I'm so glad my knives work nicely again, thank you Carmen for being so professional and doing a great job:)

I contacted Road Runner Professional Sharpening via email to inquire about their services. I received an extremely quick response, and since I live an hour away from Bakersfield, Ray said if he receives the knives in the mail by that Friday, he will send them back the next day. Well, I mailed them to him on Tuesday and received them back on Thursday...wow!! He did an amazing job!! To be honest, I don't think these knives were this sharp when they were new. I definitely plan on using them again. I highly recommend Road Runner Professional Sharpening. They are truly "professional" in every sense of the word. read more

Was in town visiting friends and they suggested we take a walk down to the farmers market. That is when I ran into Ray and Carmen from Road Runner Sharpening, One thing I can tell you from experience, when the owners of the company are the ones doing the work, you know they are going to make sure they do a great job, and let me tell you Carmen and Ray not only were very friendly, helpful and highly knowledgeable, they also sharpen your knife better than factory edge! I had 2 pocket knives sharpened and one had a chip on the tip from me trying to pry something open (big no-no) but not to worry they fixed the chip and my knives are very sharp and look amazing! A++. Now I have more of a reason to go visit my friends in Bakersfield, but this time I will be bringing more knives. Thank you Ray and Carmen for a great job, you have a customer for life! read more
