Sometimes a few social media posts are all it takes to convince you to hop in the car and make a trek to somewhere new! That's exactly how we ended up at Roadhog Willy's BBQ in Mount Vernon, Ohio--and I'm really glad we made the trip! We arrived around 2:30 p.m., right in that weird window between lunch and dinner. We met Justus, who was incredibly friendly and answered a ton of our questions while making some great recommendations. Since it was Thursday, it was Reuben Day. Now, I love rye bread and corned beef, but I'm not a fan of sauerkraut. Hopefully they don't take away my German card for admitting that! I asked if I could substitute brisket for the corned beef and coleslaw for the sauerkraut, and Justus checked with the manager. The answer? "No problem!" That kind of accommodation goes a long way. My wife went with the brisket sandwich, and we shared fresh-cut fries, mac and cheese, and a piece of cornbread. Let's talk about that brisket! WOW. It was absolutely amazing. So tender it practically melted in your mouth. The brisket is smoked on a huge smoker right out front by a 70-year-old pitmaster. I didn't catch his name, but that man definitely knows his way around a smoker! The flavor and tenderness were spot-on. The coleslaw was sweet with a nice vinegar kick--really well balanced. The fresh-cut fries came out hot, crispy and delicious. Definitely worth getting as a side. And then there was the cornbread. I had heard they had a unique twist on their cornbread, so of course we had to try a piece. It was super moist, buttery and just a little sweet. Honestly, I'm kicking myself for not ordering some to take home! For a smaller BBQ joint, Roadhog Willy's delivers BIG on flavor. And then there was the bar experience. We sat near the bar and met Shawn, the bartender, who was incredibly personable. He shared some of his mixology background, including experience at some notable restaurants around Columbus. He makes his own mixers and juices, and you can definitely taste the difference. We ordered a blackberry margarita, made with hand-muddled blackberries, house-made simple syrup and fresh lime. 10/10! That margarita was fresh, flavorful and perfectly balanced. It was one of those drinks where you immediately realize this isn't just a bartender pouring something from a bottle--they actually care about what they're making. Between the fantastic brisket, homemade sides, unique cornbread, craft cocktails and genuinely friendly staff, Roadhog Willy's really impressed us. If you're looking for a great BBQ spot where the people are friendly, the food is made with care and the flavors deliver, get yourself to Roadhog Willy's in Mount Vernon! This place is a hidden gem that deserves to be discovered. And yes...we'll definitely be making the trek back! read more

Drove an hour to get here for lunch after hearing great things about this place. Wow, so glad we did! Justis helped us by explaining the menu and answered all of our questions. She was super friendly and knowledgeable. I ended up with a brisket sandwich and my husband got the Rueben but he switched up the meat by choosing brisket and coleslaw instead of corned beef and kraut and he said it was amazing. We shared a few sides. We had the handcut fries which were made fresh and delicious. We had the Mac and cheese which was creamy and hot and we shared a slice of cornbread, yum! To top the meal off we had the made from scratch Blackberry Margarita and it was fantastic. The bartender is a transplant from the Columbus area and has spent many years in some finer dining establishments and it really shows. He is knowledgeable and very creative. You can tell he loves what he does. Overall this place is well worth the visit. Its a cute casual spot with great food and tasty drinks. The brisket was so flavorful and tender it just fell apart when they were preparing my sandwich. Run, don't walk to this place. Its a hidden gem in Mt. Vernon. read more

Ribs and they are good at them. 4 different sauces on each table a great bar and brisket was great. Enough to share but probably better to take home and eat again. read more

THE best brisket I've ever tasted and the eggrolls are amazing!! We've been coming here regularly for over a year and have not had a bad meal. Sean, the mixologist, is amazing! His unique selection of old fashioneds are the kind of thing you won't find anywhere else. Fairly extensive selection of bourbon for little Mt Vernon! The staff and service are great as well. Must tries: brisket, egg rolls, Wednesday smash burgers, Nashville hot chicken sandwich, ribs, an old fashioned or a fresh homemade margarita! read more

Ok. It's been a while since I've posted anything but pay attention. Get here ASAP and I don't care where you live. It took me 51 minutes to get here. I would drive double that with no issues. I'm very specific about my BBQ. What's offered here is top notch on point alll day. The bar is that of a hometown feel with Camren Mitchell quality without the price tag. Get here !!. Seriously get here !!! See Sean for a drink. Dude is on point and passionate about his craft in drinks. read more

Popped in after riding the Heart of Ohio trail. Got the rib sampler with chicken & brisket. It did not disappoint! Meat is tender & plentiful. We got green beans that were good, but I recommend putting bacon or ham in them! The coleslaw was also good. Order at the counter & grab your own sauces. The white sauce was outstanding & the bold & tangy was excellent too. Ate outside & it was pleasantly quiet. read more

Absolutely incredible food and atmosphere. Staff was so kind and helpful. They even have great merchandise! Highly recommend!

No, this place is to die for anything that they cook in here. I've never had any complaints of anything that I've eaten in this place. The ribs are the die for and the mac & cheese is really good. Everything in this place it's really good. I can take out too. You can stay in if you want to too, but it's a really good place to go. read more

We will definitely be back. read more

The interior is very nice. It's clean and the service was prompt and polite. My wife very much enjoyed her corned beef sandwich (a Rueben without the sauce and kraut). I had a brisket sandwich, which was good. We'll definitely be back. read more

Place is definitely set for outside seating (perfect for great weather days) a little small on the inside, so not much room for parties more than 4, there is two tables for more and also a bar!! With the food- I'll start first with saying that, they run out of some things even before 6pm, BUT that only shows how freaking good the food is!! It was our first time (yes a Saturday night) but they were BUSY! We got the pulled pork and it was just so good, and their sauces are pretty darn good too. They have plenty so you should be able to find one you like (I liked a few). They also pour the cheese on the nachos, so if you order for littles and they don't like that, order with cheese on the side overall experience was excellent and we cannot wait to go back read more

I had the two meat platter brisket pulled pork, mac & cheese baked beans. The brisket was good pulled pork was tasty. If you put barbecue sauce on it the mac & cheese kind of looked like it was store-bought aluminum pan baked beans were decent. I'd go there again and try some other things. read more

Food is amazing and it's always a must stop for me when I am in town that way you have to stop in and try it and the banana pudding is so good read more

We shared a RHW sample platter and 4 bones. The ribs and brisket were great! Sean the bartender was very entertaining!

Best BBQ brisket we have ever had. They have 4 or 5 sauces that they make that just adds to the experience. Pork ribs are SPECIAL according to the wife ( I let her have them because she gnaws them to the bone.) Something she never does. We have been there 5 times and always look forward to going back. Hey it's a drive but when you want the BEST ! Mount Vernon is a nice little town and if peaches or apples are in season - got a place for that. read more

We had to come up to Mount Vernon to pick up a motorcycle and this restaurant was next door. Be sure to watch for it, there's limited signage so it's easy to pass up. It's in with a coffee shop. Excellent food and service. We had the sampler meal with greens and Mac and cheese. Best BBQ we have had in a while. Highly recommend. read more

Road Hog Willy's Real Pit Bar-B-Q - Barbeque Near Me - Mount Vernon, Ohio

Road trip to Mt Vernon to try another BBQ place. Place has only been open for about a month and a half. Tried some pulled pork which had a nice light smoky flavor, portion was huge They have a number of sauces which included the smoke House, mustard, also jalapeno catsup. The smokehouse had a nice sweet taste to it. Mac n cheese had a ton of cheese which was baked. Corned pudding was off the chart good. I hold it up there with City BBQ's. Baked beans were straight out of can. Nothing special at all, kind of disappointing. Greens had a ton of pork in them, they weren't bad at all but could have used either salt or a little vinegar. You get a couple of slices of bread with your meal. Place has only been open for a month and a half. While I was there they were definitely doing the business, pretty much non stop. They have inside and outside seating. read more

Pleasantly surprised. Very large portions. The pork had a good smoked flavor but not over powering. Good sauces too.

Let me start by saying I love BBQ, i currently travel frequently to KY to eat my favorite BBQ at Sonny's !! I have been to so many BBQ places and I know what's good (at least to me) today was my first time eating here, the staff are kind with smiles and that is nice to see. Service was top notch! The atmosphere inside is very typical for a BBQ place many TVs and booths are cozy! Lots of different sauces to try and all were good. I thought the pulled chicken was excellent and I would buy again! They other meats were average. Sides left a lot to be desired!! They all lack flavor! I mean zero flavor! My suggestion to Road Hog is a few things! 1-add some baby bag ribs! 2- add smoked turkey! 3-make sure someone revamps your sides, they need some seasoning in the worst way! 4-GARLIC TEXAS TOAST, come on, it's a MUST! I was given two pieces of Texas toast (bread was not toast so I can't call it that really) you need a good garlic butter toasted Texas toast!!! My husband said the burger and pulled pork was great, when or if we see some changes to the menu, we will definitely be back! read more

Such an amazing addition to our town. I love that it's off the beaten path on Harcourt Rd. Their 2 meat combo is delicious! We had the pulled pork and brisket. The eating area was clean and accommodating to our young family. We walked in just in time at 11:30 am, because it was slammed by the time we left. We will be going back just for the southern peach BBQ sauce read more

Great local BBQ restaurant with daily specials. Nothing better than homemade food and a welcoming staff. We will definitely be back.

The food was decent. The ribs were tender and the variety of BBQ sauces at the tables is nice. Greens were tasty but they don't have hot sauce, just XXXBBQ sauce which sufficed. My friend's chicken sandwich was a bit dry..."I wouldn't get it again". The fries were really good. Not my style of mac n cheese, also dry. I wanted to try the corn pudding but they had just run out, which was fine (because I ended up with the fries). What wasn't fine was the way the shorter, blonde woman in the back kitchen area was being extremely rude to her exceptionally sweet, competent cashiers. One cashier had asked about the corn pudding and the shorter blonde answered it would be about 30 minutes--The cashier waiting on me did not know that. When my cashier asked about the corn pudding the blonde yelled at her something to the effect "I just said it'd be at least 30 minutes". So, no corn pudding was a bummer but the management's response to good employees killed the ambience. In a climate where good employees are dwindling to see them being treated this way was disturbing. A. Management should probably prepare more corn pudding to keep up with the demand, and B. Management should not vent their frustration at their own lack of preparation on their kind, accommodating staff. The rudeness really killed the vibe. read more

Such high-quality food and friendly staff! Highly recommend for any special occasion.

I found that the meat was on the dry side, limited menu and high in price. The service was sparse, more of a self serve type.

I was a certified Kansas City BBQ Judge for years. They would have never even placed in an event. The brisket was dry with no smoke ring. The ribs were meat falling off the bone but also dry. Flavor was mediocre. It's the only show in town. I won't go back again. read more

A little pricey but good food more of a carry out then eat in - and a variety of condiments to add. Fast service in older divided business so not much charm read more

Best beef brisket sandwiches i have had in a long time with out having to drive like 30 miles to Route 66. My daughter loves the cornbread bake. I only wish he has hoagie stem buns. His XXX BBQ sauce is to die for. An he makes killer ribs but have to order some or they are gone. I usually buy couple lbs of the brisket an makes sandwiches at home. Always more meat than 2 lbs... stop by an give it the taste test. read more

We just ate there the pulled pork was excellent SS always so we're the collard and southern style green beans Bev love the Mac& cheese

Quality food, Great portions and Friendly service at good prices. Have visited many times and have never not enjoyed each item I ordered.

Food was pretty decent, but they did not offer wet wipes. I have never been to a BBQ joint that didn't give you wet wipes to clean up after destroying some ribs. read more
