So we pumped ourselves out hoping in late summer we can find a company to install a sump pump. Enter Griswold Plumbing Services and Eli. 1. Phase One - Point of Contact: Cold called 4 companies, and no contest, Griswold's office was friendly, considerate, quick to schedule within in days of the call and I knew what to expect before they showed up. 2. Phase Two - First Visit, Inspection, Quote: no contest, Eli and his apprentice Brent showed on time, went right to work, took measurements and immediately provided a quote WITH a detailed and simple explanation of the entire process. Eli was professional, down-to-earth and made everything understandable - honestly it was if i knew Eli, and just a nice person. The Quote was not the highest, not the lowest but affolrdable, provided options (my request) and Eli made me feel comfortable the job would be done right. While I did not have to, nor was i pressured in any way, I accepted the quote and was quickly scheduled. Phase Three, The Job: Eli and Brent arrived as promissed and both NEVER stopped working until the job was done - even when I offered lunch! Eli, who remained in the 4ft crawl space all day, would pop his head out to answer a question or when they were about to perform a "major" portion of the job. I have been in construction my entire life and Eli was one of the nicest young men i have meet. The job was completed in August, the new pump removed remaining water from under/around house and remains working perfectly. We had an awful experience with this company. - They…read moreinstalled a defective furnace in our home that made a loud banging noise (likely a refurbished product). They gaslit us for weeks, saying we were imagining the noise. After multiple follow-ups initiated by us (they didn't want to fix it), they reluctantly admitted they heard the noise and installed the correct furnace. - According to the Town of Madison, Wilcox installed a water heater without obtaining the necessary permit for installation - proof they cut corners to save a few bucks at the expense of safety and compliance. - Upon requesting propane delivery, they delivered the propane to the wrong house (they are so incompetent that they couldn't even remember the house they delivered to), but sent us the bill! They acted like it was no big deal, showing complete disregard for the safe handling of dangerous gases. When they showed up at my house post-error (they assumed it was a gauge issue at first), they inexplicably didn't even bring propane with them to fill up the tank! Despite having "reliability" and a "commitment to customer satisfaction" plastered all over their website, the owner of the company said he "didn't have the authority" to make it right and offer a credit for the hassle and inconvenience. We were gaslit again, saying we were being too hard on them and wanted empathy for the team hustling amidst staffing issues. Based on our experience, this is a sketchy, dishonest and unreliable company despite the empty BS jargon on their website - not to mention their products and services are grossly overpriced compared to their competition. UPDATE BASED ON WILCOX DIATRIBE: In Julie's long-winded diatribe, she admits they installed a furnace that didn't work (even though she comically doesn't think "defective" is a fair word), didn't obtain a water heater permit (either before or after the installation) and delivered propane to the wrong address. She conveniently didn't address someone who claimed to be the "owner of the company" (who really wasn't) not having "authority to make it right," basically admitting their website jargon is complete BS. It would be lovely if Wilcox spent as much time doing their job (which they do very poorly) as they do writing encyclopedias in response to customer reviews. They're so incompetent that they don't even realize that saying "we don't gaslight customers" is gaslighting in its purest form. Lovely company.

Longtime Customer Betrayed - $10,000 Soot Disaster!…read more I had been a loyal Pennywise customer for over 25 years. My heating and cooling system was replaced in 2021 and worked flawlessly--until my trusted service person retired. In September 2024, I hired Pennywise to service the system. When I turned on the heat for the first time in November, my home filled with soot--a "puff back," which is a rare and serious occurrence. After ruling out a chimney issue (which had just received a new liner), the cause was determined to be a faulty or possibly improperly installed fuel nozzle. I was in a panic and didn't think to demand the part. Pennywise refunded the service call--but that's where their accountability ended. The estimate to remediate the soot damage was $10,000. The company president promised to investigate, then ghosted me. To add insult to injury, they charged me for the very service call that triggered the disaster. One year later, I'm still cleaning up the mess myself. No apology. No follow-up. No ownership. For a company that claims to care about its customers, this was outrageous. I should have sued.

They sent someone out the next day and over the course of four hours, I was told I needed a new pump, a new oil tank or just a brand new system. The price tag associated with each "solution" was comically large and none ended up being necessary. After the rep left, I solved the problem, thanks to a friend's advice to change an 8 dollar cad cell eye. Zero stars.
