I really don't understand the bad reviews on here. I have been involved in about ten auctions now and have won some really good items. It seems some people didn't do their due diligence at all when buying liquidation/return auction items. I have made that same mistake with RL Liquidators and they were very quick to help me out, even though the mistake was mine. Reta was great!!! I won't make the same mistake again. I have found the items to be 10X better than any other liquidation business. They don't try to hide defects or problems with the items. Bid here for awhile, and I get their perspective... They don't have time to inspect or make promises about everything. But they cut too many corners. False advertising on A LOT of items. Bought an air filter that was pictured as new, box undamaged. The one I picked up was literally impaled, right through the center of the box and all the way through the machine. Obviously not functional. Recently bought a shed for $400. The box pictured was intact, maybe a little beat up, but together. Also it was advertised as complete, there were other sheds that were labeled as incomplete sets, which I of course wanted to avoid. Just laid out all the parts, I'm literally missing HALF of them. Also they are pretty rude when you go to pick up your things. I don't even blame the employees, its just a bad work environment. They trash your things because they hate their job and they know they can get away with it. Occasionally you can get a good deal, but its just not worth it anymore. Ok ive spent alot of money i mean alot, here at rl liquidators im going to give you a true unbaised opinion, the good the bad and the ugly, the good...the 2 best rl locations in my opinion for quality, accountability, great management and honest, trustworthy, our 1} Galt the manager their Ceasar is a honest amazing guy very down to earth is about his business but definitely makes you feel like hes thankful for you being a customer and extremely helpful good crew there too... 2} Turlock is one of the best its a one man show there Albert the owner is amazing he does it all hes a stand up guy and very customer oriented really takes care of his customers and he runs a tight ship but hes fast and his location is by far the cleanliest of them all, the rest of the rl stores can learn from these two guys for sure. 3} Stockton guys are super cool too...4} Fresno GUYS are super awesome too, always fast and ready to help...The bad is the 1} modesto crew not Phil or guys on the oversize they are awesome. getting concerned with the ever increasing product's with undocumented problems. I'm usually content having an item or two with an issue or missing something they didn't document but the last few times seems like they just didn't care. got 10 items from elk grove and 4 didn't work, one was missing attachments that weren't noted in the pics and one had a rusted base that shouldn't have been pictured. i think it is relative to them opening up a bunch of retail locations. all the good stuff goes there and they are selling all the duds now on the auction. bummer. read more

Make sure you look at all the pictures not just the box. Just bought a re-boxed item. Box said Shimano, the reel was an Okuma. One of the employees even said they were having boxing issues? I have purchased many items from rl auction. I try to review everything I look at, but, they take forever to give you a preview, so sometimes you have to rely on the blurry pictures they take and take a chance of buying garbage. I have purchased many and I mean many items, and I would need to repair or just throw away. But sometimes I will find some diamonds in the rough. The last straw was when I purchased two separate items, with poor pictures, it was garbage, they agreed to give my money back. About a week later I saw the same two items bundled as one auction item, and sold to someone else. These two items were brought to their attention as junk and they should've trash them but instead they sold them again, hoping the next person would take the hit. I get it, the employees could care less and they get what they pay for. They are taking hundreds of pictures a day, and adding descriptions, has to be tough to do, but, they should at least pay someone more to properly take pictures of items, like: Item out of the box (don't need 6 pics of box) Pictures of model numbers Clear and in focus All main angles. My guess, 99% of these items are returned items, they buy truck loads from amazon, Best Buy, Home Depot ... some items work just fine but most are returned because they are broken or nonworking items, then RL buys cheap and hopes that you do not go and review, and buy it. Hate to give bad reviews especially when the owners of the business are wonderful individuals, but the service and negative aura from one employee, Reta, just brings a sour taste to the whole business. I have been buying and selling items with RL for several years now and the service has gone downhill since she has managed the online auction side of the business. I have seen them grow from a much smaller warehouse on Richards, to their 5th St. location and to where they are now on 10th street. My advice to the owners is to move her into a position that does not deal with customers or around customers. The only reason I say move her is because I know it's hard to fire family. read more

The review is for the Elk Grove location ONLY. I've shopped at the downtown locations since 2012; bought tons of stuff there and loved it all. But the second time I went to pick up stuff in Elk Grove, they "couldn't find it." The employee evidently found this entertaining and laughed as he told me they didn't know where it was. Don't even bother going to the main location on N. 10 St if you are disabled/wheel chair bound NO ACCESS!!! They tell me they don't need wheel chair access because they are not a store. They are discriminating against us! The ADA states they must provide public accommodations for all, including me! Too bad none of the 4 paper shredder i got from them don't work - I would shred any remaining mention I have of them in my home. They rarely show sizes or defects of items. Items like canes, gloves, hats, shoes, pants, car covers, wheel covers, speakers, computers, tablets, linen... These all have different sizes. They use to be good, but unfortunately they lack customer service. I realize everything is sold as is, but when you are auctioning off 30-40 air mattresses. and you go to the preview and see the sticker labeled as "Used" and the sticker saying "Damaged" is unchecked you assume they are functioning. I purchased 8 or 12. all but 2 were popped, some were not even the mattress that was in the box, and when i went to email them about an exchange or a refund I was told everything was sold "as is" and I should have previewed the item before hand. I did preview the items, but I did not think it would have been practical to open each box and blow up every single air mattress and inflatable object in their warehouse. pretty disappointed. I have been buying from RL for years now. You must understand that they are auctioning off hundreds, if not thousands, of store returns each month. They cannot test every item and you are ultimately responsible if you make any assumptions without previewing the items before bidding. **Be especially selective when purchasing electronics** Store returns are often missing accessories and may be damaged. That being said, I have made hundreds of purchases from RL and have inadvertently purchased many broken items BUT, this is the cost of business. I did not take the time to preview those items and it is my responsibility to do so. In the VERY rare cases that items were misrepresented in the listing, I have was given a full refund without any trouble. These one-star reviews from idiots crying about purchased broken items are hilarious. What did you expect!? You are bidding on "As-Is" items that are selling way below retail... Act like an adult, take some responsibility for your carelessness and stop embarrassing yourself online. read more

After bidding on items here in less than half a year I quickly learned to read very carefully and to zoom in on all pictures. Still when you been on things you get them missing parts or broken only work for a little bit and then break. Other things are not as represented. They want you to bid on things win them pay them take them away and they're disclaimer in their policy prevent you from doing anything about it if it breaks. So if you see something advertised with no notation about missing parts broken items etc then I guess you can assume it's all in one piece. Or when you see items with the power cord in all parts that you know come with the factory box you take it home you plug it in and it doesn't work but there's no notation on the pictures at all that tell you it hasn't been tested or it doesn't power up or something to let you know be aware when you buy this. I have $100 of items that are junk got them home either known power cord or they don't work. They are junk and so is his business this is my personal experience with been around it's based on facts as I experience them and I had the broken parts with missing power cords or broken parts that are broken when I get them to prove my point. I have bought over 20 items from this auction house before it became a problem. Be careful when you receive a call from Keana. She is the receptionist who will swindle you out of money just to get a re-listing fee. She called me 10 days after the auction ended for payment. I pay the full amount only to find out it was to get the re-listing fee and my items were gone. She had a report to create and therefore she call outstanding customers for a FULL payment and NOT the re-listing fee!!!!!! Their policies never enforces until this very moment. Let me start this by saying that I have spent thousands of dollars at RL over the past year. About a year ago a good portion of their merchandise was good and not broken or missing pieces. However, in the past 6 months over 90% of the things I have bought have been broken or missing pieces and there is no way of knowing this unless you go down and preview each and every item you want to bid on. I would stay away from anything electronic at this place. Every electronic item that I bought (and I mean EVERY) was broken! Lesson learned. Although I really enjoyed the people that work here and did have fun on the site (it's addicting) I will no longer give RL my business. It is not worth the time and effort of bidding and picking up the items only to find out that they are broken or missing pieces and now you paid half price for something that is pretty much useless. The baby items are a good buy and the shelf pulls but that is about it. But lately there are no great deals since there are just too many people on the site now. I believe that RL knows what is wrong with each and every item (as the person returning the item must fill out a reason why they are returning it to amazon) and they just throw away that slip as to get more money out of people. If RL was more honest about the stuff they are selling then people would not bid so high. I will not be back, and I can tell you that my life has been better because of it! They document the item as damaged so that you don't see it when you are bidding. The owners won't return calls and they kept the damaged merchandise and my money of over $168. They were to have refunded my money over a week ago and no return, kept the merchandise. I have shopped many on-line auctions and this is a consumer nightmare. I will proceed with filing a claim against this company. Please do not make the same mistake I had. Stay away from RL Auctions. I don't understand the negative reviews on here. Yes they resell reopened items and some are missing pieces or damaged. They allow you to preview the specific owns you're interested inn you avoid surprises. I've won many great items from here but have had a few disappointments but that's to be expected. I continue to bid happily because, for me, the benefits of the savings have far outweighed the disappointments of bad bids. I recommend this place if you're interested in saving some $$$. read more

I discovered this site in February 2016 while I was looking to buy the DeWalt Compound Mitre Saw on Craigslist. So, I went to the site, bid, and won a brand new one in the box for only $200 vs $325 from Home Depot. Since then, I was hook and was so addictive to the site. Everyday, I went to the site and bid on junks that I don't need but think that I got a good deal on them. I started spreading how wonderful this site was to all my friends. Since I live in the South Bay, it would take me 2.5 hours to drive to Sacramento to pick up the merchandise. Initially, I was very motivated driving 2.5 to pick up junks that I bought. Since I bought many of them, I did not get a chance to test all use all of the tools that I bought. Until recently, I found out that items that are in box are broken, tools that don't work (paint sprayer cannot spray), pressure washer that cannot start, Table Saw in which the saw cannot roll up, etc. So, even though you pay half price compared to the brand new from the store, but you cannot use them. So, all money is wasted. Furthermore, as the other reviewers stated, this place has NO customer service whatsoever. Employee such as Audrey thinks that he is a big man with a power to black list your account, sending out threaten emails, charge for re-list items that were not re-listed. Since I was so fed up with this place, I told Audrey to go ahead and cancel my account as I would never want to do business with this company anymore. I hope that people that are bidding on this site would read these reviews and stay away from them. I wished I have read these reviews so that I would not spend so much money and drove to Sacramento 3 times to buy junks. read more

This place buys lots of other customers returns from Amazon ans other retailers. 9 out of 10 items are damaged, missing pieces and completely useless. They say you can come in and preview but if you show up with a list of items to review they roll their eyes at you and take all day to allow you to preview. Most of the stuff is pure junk. They don't take honest pictures to show you the damage or write in the description whether it is missing pieces or not working. Very deceptive. The owner is getting rich selling useless junk. You might get lucky to get a working item but it's not cheap if you consider the cost of the other items you purchased that go into the trash. read more

I had several Items that I purchased that were sold on a previous auction and were no longer available, or the item was lost and couldn't be located for purchase. There was never an apology, just assumed as a way of doing business. Also, you can expect to wait for up to an hour when you go to pickup your merchandise, they know one speed slow. Hmmm... it's hard to even decide where to start because there is so much that is wrong with RL. I started off loving this place but it seems as they grew, so did their contempt for the customers who helped build their business. I have purchased thousands upon thousands of dollars worth of storage units and goods from Ryan. I was also one of his consigners for quite a while and made him thousands of dollars with items that he sold for me. Without going into specifics I can tell you that he takes the best storage units for himself so please don't think that you will buy a great locker from him. Also his word is worth about as much as a ball of old gum stuck to the bottom of a bus bench. He has an evil harpy he calls his mother running the auction house and she will treat any customer like trash. If you buy a storage unit from him he will stand behind the owners of the storage facilities on any issue even if your legal rights are violated arbitrarily. Of course RL has so many customers that they are in no danger of ever being harmed be this review. Its just a shame that they cant have a little respect for the people who make their lives possible. I guess the best course of action is for me to report RL the Better Business Bureau. read more

I called about a photograph I saw advertised for an upcoming auction. I asked on the phone if they could tell me the dimensions of the photograph as it wasn't in the description. The woman asked me to call in 30 minutes and said she'd have an answer for me. I called back about 50 minutes later and she said she was too busy and that I should call back in another 30 minutes. I asked her if I could give her my number and have her call me when she knew the answer. I never heard from her. Terrible customer service and her tone on the phone sucked. read more

I have been doing business with RL from way back in the storage days. The staff here are great except for the witch, Rita. The funny thing is even the staff talks about her behind her back. She will drive her sons and Larry's business into the ground with her stubborn attitude. I am not the only former customer that has the same feelings about this person Rita who considers herself the manager of the warehouse located on 10th st. I wish she does read this review, she absolutely has no business skills. If her son was not part owner of this business she would not be there. Overall RL is a great auction house. The staff such as Laura and others are great and very helpful. One bad seed is what they have. You would think all the complaints of Rita would initiate some action however like i said, it is a family business and if not for her son she would be gone long time ago. Any other professional business this is known as "conflict of interest" but not here. Owners got her back. I personally use to spend thousands every month here both buying and consigning but not anymore. As like others I left and started doing business with other auction houses and return centers due to the unprofessionalism of Rita. RL has been getting more business from return centers such as sears and bed & bath etc and have come a long way from the only storage auction days however with this more business the old lady has developed more of an ego. They will no longer accept publics items for consigning, hello don't forget what got you to where you are today. Overall, at its prime RL was a great place however with the combination of the newly opened return centers in Modesto as well as other locations in the valley and the unprofessional staff i can see RL auctions and RL liquidators starting to loose a lot of customer accounts soon and going back to being a thing of the past which was selling second hand garbage from storage lockers. On the last note, yelp reviews are very important and help put a face on a business. For those fellow yelpers that have previously stated in their reviews "i don't understand bad reviews on here" try holding a conversation with Rita preferably on a Monday morning and your conversation will be one to remember, if she dosent blow you off that is. read more

I have bought over 4k in items from RL Liquidators. This Co. will make up their rules as they go along. They will not honor the written rules on their receipts. The main issue I had was customer service. It is non-existent. The lady that makes all the decisions , The office manager, Rita has no customer service, and she treats her employees like slaves. All this would happen in front of the customers. Everybody had the same experience, whether you were a customer, employee or a vendor. It was sickening to me to be a witness to this type of behavior. I have spent thousands with Rl when they first opened, but now I have learned my lesson and will no longer be bidding on items. They are trying to maximize profits from salvage truckload items.
