I have to say that I'm VERY fortunate to have Rix only a few towns over from me on Ridgedale Avenue. I've used other pool companies and ended up having Rix come out afterwards to fix not only the mistakes the previous pool company did, but the initial problem. Suffice to say, I've learned my lesson and now I never go anywhere else. I let them open and close my pool for me but I maintain it myself during the pool season. They also offer a service to store my pool cover for the season which is nice being that it takes up a huge amount of room in my pool shed. They treat it with an anti fungal during it's storage which is nice. They also service the pool heater which is great because I usually have families of mice move into it during the Winter. If I ever need any extensive work done, they always do an outstanding job. Quality work too and I trust them to not rip me off. If I ever have a, "Pool Emergency" they come right out. Usually that day or early morning the next day. I know that I can always count on them to fix the problem. My only issue is that their pool chemicals are very expensive. For that I go to Leslie's for my chlorine and shock. Like a boat that is basically a large hole in the water that you throw money into, so is a pool. Today was the second time I drove 8 miles to Rix and they were closed at 5:42 when the sign on the door and your website said open until 6:00. The first time was almost an hour before they were scheduled to close! And it's mid June when pools are at there peak and need the most attention! Although I didn't purchase my spa here I use them for all of my chemical and water testing needs. Staff is beyond friendly and helpful. Prices are more than competitive. They always seems genuinely happy to assist with any questions that I have. They've also taught me quite a bit about water balancing and general maintenance. The only downside is that they only service spas that they sell. Otherwise I would use them for that as well. Kudos and much thanks! read more

About 2 weeks ago, we had a very large tree come down in the backyard. It fell toward the house and in addition to destroying part of a fence, the very edge of the roof and other smaller damage, it landed on and destroyed our hot tub. I contacted the company we had originally bought it from on Route 10 (no names to be nice) and could not get anyone there to return a call, email or anything. I contacted Rix and spoke with the nicest gentlemen, Anthony, who came out to survey the damage and see if the tub could be repaired. Rix determined that the tub was a total loss; a fact that I showed to our insurance company who also stepped up and gave us a fair value for the old one. We then met Anthony and the store and he carefully and professionally showed us the tubs they had, their features and costs. Helen, also in the store, was as helpful and friendly as you could find. We ordered the new tub on Saturday and it was delivered on Thursday. The delivery team was also excellent, neat, clean and very efficient. There are many pool and spa supply places within 5 miles of our home but from now on, Rix is the only one I will be dealing with. read more

Amazing customer service! After ordering two separate replacement parts for our Jandy pool filter that were incorrect, I called Rix in a panic. It was close to 5 pm and I did not expect that they would be able to help before the days end. Not only were Imani and Helen able to help but they both promptly responded with addition questions and asked for photos before recommending the part I needed. The service people are alway courteous and prompt on scheduled appointment day and time. They are not cheap, but no one can provide the quality of service as Rix does. Been meaning to write this review for awhile. Rix Pool & Spa; specifically Jim Silverstein, Owner/President, are unprofessional and encroach on illegal practice. After up-selling products and services for our pool over the years, when a specific problem arose relating to one of those products rather than to be there for us to support/resolve the issue, Jim Silverstein ultimately sent this email: "We elect to no longer offer any service or support for your pool care." When Rix Pool & Spa, Jim Silverstein decide that they have sucked enough blood out of you ($$$) and you're no longer worth their while, they kick you to the curb; when you needed them the most. When it came to water testing, or a vanilla pool opening/closing there was never a problem. However, when there was a 'bigger issue' (ie: water leak from solar heating system purchased, installed and warrantied by Rix) Jim Silverstein and company used it as a reason to stop offering support and service. Rix Pool & Spa is not accredited by the Better Business Bureau. There are very similar negative experiences to mine listed under the customer review section of the BBB as well as many sites such as this. I will leave a review there as well as warning so that others don't fall into the same trap I did. Please do your research and save yourself time and money and avoid Rix Pool & Spa. As a result of this ordeal I have found there are definitely better, more professional and affordable pool service companies than what Rix Pool & Spa, Owner/President Jim Silverstein have to offer. read more

I recently purchased a hot tub from Pelican in Whippany, NJ for $8,200 and it was a quick sale! I had issues from day 1 and visited Pelican 4 times to try and correct the water levels. The ph, alkalinity, chlorine, etc. were not normal. They instructed me to dump the water and start over with the same instructions. Long story short, it didn't work so I had to dump it again and repeat the process all over. I was so frustrated! I finally went to Rik's in East Hanover and they came to the rescue. I dumped the water and they provided me with opposite instructions from Pelican. They test your water with a special machine which then gives you step by step instructions. Not the case at Pelican. Thanks to John at Rik's my hot tub has a perfect water reading, it's clear, and I've been using the tub. I'm very disappointed with Pelican given my investment. read more

We have been customers of Rix for over 20 years. On my latest visit in early September, Jacqueline offered a friendly greeting as soon as I came in and asked if I needed help. After I told her that I couldn't find my regular chlorine tablets, she shared that the company was impacted by the recent hurricane and explained how another brand was a good replacement. Knowing the stock and acting quickly to resolve problems is the hallmark of a good employee. I have been using Rix for over 15 years. The owner Jim has always been rude to me, but the technicians are great. They opened my pool this year and did not check the spa was working. I called and asked them to come out and get it going, and I was told by Jim that it would have been on a specific day. It did not happen, it was my third call asking for someone to come out. Jim was quick to tell me that they had other openings to attend to and that I would have to wait. After paying over $700 for my opening I was not happy. Paid RIX to Close pool last year. Went to open pool, they never blew out lines or plugged skimmers. All valves froze and split, piping froze and split. Now I have to replace piping to filter and pumps. -Do not use for pool service!!! read more

We have been a loyal customer since we built the pool in 1995. Anytime I've had any issues with anything, I call and they offer solutions that I can do myself, and if they don't work they send someone out to fix the problem. I have had bi-weekly valet service all these years and am very happy with them. My valet, Eric, is very knowledgable. I recommend them to my friends with pools. They do a great job. Price wise - they are comparable - anything having to do with inground pools is expensive no matter whom you choose - but worth it for a summer of fun!! read more

I have been a customer of Rix' s for almost 20 years and have purchased 2 hot tubs over the years. They serviced my tubs annually and provided repair services on several occasions. While their services are expensive and usually required a follow up visit due to the quality of their initial visits, I continued to call on them over the years, out of habit or misplaced loyalty. Unfortunately, my loyalty and trust in Rix' s were greatly misplaced. As my hot tub was no longer serviceable, I visited the Rix 's stand at the recent Morristown Armory Home and Garden show. I dealt with the owner, Jim Silverstein, and we agreed on a replacement tub . The price was agreed upon, as were the accessories, the cost of removal and installation . Jim offered a price of approx $6400, if financed or $6,000 in cash. I called Jim and arranged to meet with him on this past Monday. When I went to finalize the deal, Jim was not available which should have been a warning. I had the misfortune of dealing with one of his associates, who complained about the price quoted and the amount of work involved. I made the mistake of trying to deal with this person as he tried to offer an accessory that was not in the original proposal. This accessory should have added $950 to the cost. However, he can back with a total price that was $1,500 more than the original quote. He was unable to reconcile the differences and considered the original quote a mistake. At that point, I left and called Jim who said he would speak with his associate and get back to me. After several days , I called and eventually spoked to Jim. He proceeded to explain that he had the option to rescind his offer under the law as he underestimated the amount of work involved. He did offer to start over, but at that point I realized that these were not honest business people and refused his offer. This experience was clearly a case of "bait and switch". I don't know if Mr Jim Silverstein and associates are the original owners of this business, but they have certainly tarnished their reputation. So disappointed with this company. They have serviced our pool for over 10 years. They acid washed the pool in 2011 and closed the pool that year. When they opened it in 2012 there were black streaks and marks throughout the pool. They charged us hundreds of dollars using chemicals to clear it but nothing worked. They closed it in 2012 and promised when they opened it again in 2013 they would address the issue. If it needed to be acid washed again, they would do it at no cost to us. Yesterday the pool was opened, black streaks still there and they called the manager/owner who said they would acid wash it. Today they want us to sign a contract and pay once again for the acid wash because somehow it must be the water and not their fault. Beware of what will happen if something goes wrong. read more

In a word, DON'T. As long as things go as planned, there is always satisfaction. The test comes when there is an issue. I have (had) been a loyal Rix customer, even as a high-cost provider, for over 25 years. Upon opening the pool this year, a series of missteps (they broke bleeder valve and faucet handle) resulting in no pressure and, therefore, no pool for two weeks over Memorial Day. Sure, accidents happen. But it took them four trips, and a number of calls to the service manager, to get them back out, diagnose and finally fix the problem. But, rather than stepping up to the plate, the service manager denied it could possibly be Rix fault; alleged that it must be mine. Then billed me $240 for the labor and material...on top of $825 to "open" the pool. Oh, and serviceman left door tag stating broken faucet was "WWII" vintage. So much for customer satisfaction. Jim and team did a great job on my installation. Even when a problem arose, they were there to help walk me through the issue and also come to repair it at no extra cost. They are extremely knowledgeable about their products and the staff are all very courteous and patient in going through their product line. read more

Has the person in NH ever used this company??? AWFUL and OVER PRICED. They raised their rates this year to a ridiculous amount for the poor service we received. They say they have you pay for their expertise the person they sent to my home was no expert and told me they had only worked there a year. They didn't know what they were doing, they had to send someone else out on another day and they charged me for both visits. Just had my pump replaced by these guys and they tried to rip me off by charging an initial visit fee of $179 (15 minutes at my house - you kidding me) on top of the $550 to replace the pump and the labor (which I'm fine with). Told the guy no one mentioned this and seems totally unfair. Called them and they sent the guy back to remove the newly installed pump - the tech guy said Tom Cochrane (service manager)told him to do this. Paying the bill but you kidding me or what.Totally arrogant attitude - do not do business with these guys - no fairness or customer focus - just trying to rip people off. read more

I tried a cheaper company to close and open my pool and my pool heater was not working and the other company wanted to charge me 600 for a new board plus they messed up our filter. I called Rix and they looked at it even after me telling them I might need a new board they found that a mouse chewed a wire and that was the problem. I purchased pool chemicals from this store for the first time. I bought gallon plastic containers of liquid chlorine. As I opened the first container I noticed that the container was not full, and I opened second container, the same. On the third container, I decided to measure and realized each container contained 11 cups of chemical. A gallon is equal to 16 cups. Called the store and manager told me that the liquid within container goes by weight and it did not matter that I only measured 11 cups. I will never shop at this establishment again. For the high price they charge per gallon of liquid chlorine, they should at least give you a Gallon. I would give this store 0 stars. read more

Rix is well known in the area to be expensive but I all I needed was a o ring for a chlorinator so I stopped in. The girl fetched the o ring and said it cost $25.00!! I said I replace these every year and never paid anywhere near $25. She then said "yeah, these are made of special rubber". REALLY ? The exact same item online for $6.00.
