IF you order soft drinks your paying for each one you get there are NO REFILLS and when I was going to check out I was shocked to see $20.00 added to my order because I was thirsty. I think I had 4 glasses because it was so hot that day and I was walking a lot that day but damn they could offer free refills. 2nd time here a year later and it was just as good as the first time. Be sure to try a special off the board on the wall. More than just fried seafood. The grilled and blacked fish and shrimp are just as good as the free hushpuppies!! No wait when we went, and food was quick to the table. Wait staff was actually glad to see you, made you feel welcome in the resturant (a rare find in todays society of people putting in there time). What a humble and good quality seafood joint!!!We ordered the fried oyster, catfish, fried shrimp and baked potato with fries. They brought out hushpuppies which were a treat. We ate here for the first time and we will definitely be back! For starters, the hush puppies are FANTASTIC! Probably the best we've ever had! We had the grilled Mahi and fantail shrimp. We came here as a group of 9 and there was no problem. Alyssa was our waitress and she was awesome. She took the time to explain the menu and tell us her favorites. The food was really good. I had the fried shrimp and it was some of the best I have ever had. Large shrimp and very lightly breaded. Also any place that serves fried okra is all right in my book. We will come back here again! Tried the Riverview Cafe for the first time. It was great! Hushpuppies were excellent. The shrimp and flounder was fresh and cooked just right with a soft texture. The coleslaw and baked potato were fresh and good. We wanted seafood again that week, so we returned to the Riverview Cafe. Our second meal was just as wonderful as the first time we ate there. Disappointing, is really not strong enough. Waitress was extremely unprofessional, unmotivated, and just not good. Food was below subpar. I had 7 people in my party and 2 felt like they could eat their food. So disappointed, it's not funny. $170.00 tab and we had to stop on the way home to get food we could eat. Seriously, avoid the supposed 'local' charm. If it's not fried, these folks cannot make it. read more

Great seafood options. Can be a bit pricy, though. My only gripe with this restaurant is the service. Any time it's relatively busy, I always seem to get subpar service. Waitresses often forget your order and take forever to bring out your order. In my last visit, my friend ordered mozzerella sticks and didn't receive them-- yet was expected to pay for them. The food is good, but it's not special, and the service is iffy. If you're in for a casual dinner, this is place. If you're expecting a great customer experience.... maybe go elsewhere. read more

We visited riverview cafe after seeing it recommended on local topsail FB groups. The food was just ok and the service wasn't great. They seemed to be doing lots of to go orders so maybe that's more of their thing. We went on a Monday, party of 6 with no reservations. We didn't have a wait, but the staff was pretty rude when we walked in. Telling us to just have a seat in a booth. I didn't see any cleaning of table or booths while I was there and the place seemed pretty run down. We could see into the kitchen and we are obviously out of towners on vacations and they all seemed to be staring. I don't know if this is more of a locals only place but we definitely didn't feel welcome. We were told to take a picture of the specials board to look over at our booth, which seemed strange. We had two different waitresses and they kept asking us the same questions, taking drink orders twice, etc. I did like that some of the adult dinners could be made into kids items, but they only took off $2! Hush puppies were good. One guest had the fried flounder that was good, okra was good, catfish ok, bbq chicken sandwich was good, special of ribeye was over cooked. Very thin slice ordered medium rare and came medium well. Ordered with scallops that were very small and tasted like they had been frozen. We ordered pie to go that tasted like it was from a grocery store. It was very over priced. Definitely more home cooking style. They seemed to offer a lot of everything, but didn't do anything particularly well. I'm very surprised this got such good reviews. I won't be back. read more

Rent a GPS so you can find this place because it is awesome. My wife had the grilled mahi and I had the fried shrimp with a shrimp cocktail appetizer. Everything was fresh and tasty, right off the boat. The lemon meringue pie was to die for. We were looking for fresh seafood and we certainly found it! This no-frills place is worth the drive. The locals eat there so you know it's great and it had an "A" from the health inspector (98%). Clean and great food. read more

A lady in one of tourist trap stores in Topsail recommended this and I am ever glad she did! Well worth the drive! The first thing I noticed when I walked in was this glass container of home made pies with mile high meringue!!!!!! Traveled all the way from Texas and found the best fried shrimp, tasty crispy hot hush puppies and pie. Had a piece of pie there and took two pieces of pie back to Clayton NC with us. I had the lemon and coconut cream meringue. The food was not greasy and the prices were very modest. Come to find out the great grandson of the original owner is learning the business so that the business will stay in the family. The grilled Mahi - way over done - as if a dry piece of steak / scallops charred on one side undercooked on the other, very rubbery / blackened catfish wasn't... It was greasy as were their zucchini. Best local seafood around! Great location right on the New River. Fresh seafood not like the garbage at Red Lobster. Whenever we have family in town we make it a point to go to The Riverview.
