Had the grilled salmon with crab on the side. This is one of the best salmon that I've ever had. Highly recommended.

My parents moved to this area about four months ago and thank goodness we found this place the first week! We insist on eating here every time we visit and they frequently eat here when there are no visitors at their house. The seafood is amazing! The portions are generous. The fried choices are lightly fried and flavorful and not the hard little fried nuggets you get elsewhere. Peel and eat shrimp are so fresh and seasoned just right. The fried squash is to die for. The deviled crab are homemade and full of crab not just breading. As you can tell we've had most of what's on the menu! We always want pie at the end of the meal but never have room. We eventually just purchased one to take home to enjoy later. It was delicious of course. Service is great and servers are very friendly! read more

Excellent service and atmosphere for the family. We had the coconut shrimp which were delicious. Husband got the blackened tilapia, fries and beans. I got the teriyaki chicken, fries and cole slaw. Son got chicken tenders and fries. All were good and more than enough. The complimentary hush puppies were yummy! Nice view of boats and a perfect spot if you are too early to check in and need to kill some time. Bathrooms are clean too. We will be back for sure. read more

Riverview is the best casual seafood joint ever, in my opinion! It is situated in a building circa 1950 on the sound near Camp Lejune in a little town called Sneads Ferry, NC, which is nothing more than a fishing village. It is also a hop, skip, and a jump from Topsail Island. They have the best whole flounder I've ever had, which is flounder fried up golden brown with the center bone still in, which helps to keep the white meat moist and tender. It is about 3/4 to one inch thick and about 12 inches long. Last visit, my buddy and I both had the whole flounder (his first, but not last), salads, oyster stew and big, locally caught steamed shrimp (prawns for you all from out west). The shrimp were firm and as sweet as can be. For those that only eat shrimp from a frozen bag from Argentina or Chile, you don't know what you are missing with NC caught wild shrimp. Not sure what happened, it was great back this summer when I came to visit my marine son, today it sucked, waitress did not care about us. I ordered calamari, it was soggy and greasy, all she said was, " I'm sorry" she did ask if I wanted something else in a un respectful tone. My son ordered a Rueben, it was very greasy and small. My other son had a BBQ sandwich, there was hardly any BBQ and a whole lot of slaw on real big bread. Slaw was good, not sure about BBQ, not enough on bread to taste. I will not go back. After reading reviews on here I expected MUCH more than what I found. WAY overpriced, with the food being of lower quality than an Old Country Buffet outing during a slow day where the food is sitting under the lights for half the day. Whole fried clams!!!! Yeah and the seafood is fresh from the water they have there own boats and everything. While eating here I suddenly found myself thinking of my childhood in Massachusetts and my Uncle Tommy's fishing boat in Canada from when I was a kid. They give you a ample amount of food even on there pick 3 and pick 4 platters. The scallops were giant and the oysters were good even though they weren't in season. One of the best restaurants we have been to. Pulling up to the restaurant, we were not sure what we were going to get. However, it was the best food our group ate while on vacation. The "riverview clams" were delicious, along with the fried chicken. Every item we encountered was phenomenal.. One member of our group even stated "hell, even the water is good!". Unless someone tells you about this place, I doubt you will come across it. However, once you find it, you will be back again. My husband and I just came from a great lunch on a Saturday afternoon. We sat window-side and looked across the river, which was raging and stirring from all the rain. Try to get a window seat so you can enjoy the view. Hubby had fried spots, which he thoroughly enjoyed. I had the broiled shrimp, which were delicious. Hush puppies were eaten quickly. Our server was helpful with suggestions and quick to refill our drinks. We did not feel rushed. If you are looking for ambience, this isn't the place. Decent hushpuppies . Nice view sorta hard to find. Had lunch here with 6 others. Busy which is a sign of fresh seafood as were all the local fresh seafood stores. The flounder was fresh and tasty. The shrimps were delicious. Recommended good value for money read more

I went for my annual serving of fried shrimp and hushpuppies, and they delivered on that. I am only giving 3 stars, as the ambiance is somewhat lacking. It's a very casual place - do not go if you want a nice dinner out. However, it's perfect for a family with young kids. The menu is old-school NC seafood - a variety of seafood you can have fried, grilled, or broiled. Sides are fries or potato, coleslaw, etc. However, they did have fried okra, which I thought was a nice alternative to the slaw. My parents were coming to town and I wanted to take them out for some North Carolina seafood. I had never been here but saw the favorable reviews. I don't think I'd ever return. The service was good but the food was nothing special. I ordered the broiled shrimp dinner. My shrimp tasted like the frozen ones I buy from Walmart and they were quite small and missing the 'fresh' taste- I was just confused considering the location. My moms scallops were quite good though. I don't know if it was just an off day for Riverview Cafe or what, but it was not worth the $16.95 I paid. We walked away disappointed. read more

This place really wasn't anything special. I got crab soup which was fine and catfish sandwich with fries. The sandwich was lackluster since it was just a piece of fried fish on a cheap bun. I had to smother it in tartar sauce for any flavor. The fries were the crinkle cut and seemed like they were just made from a frozen oreida bag. My mom got a soft shell crab sandwich which looked so small it barely covered half of the cheap bun. I would expect this quality from a shack that just bangs out food during a festival or something. Our party of 23 adults went to Riverview Cafe last night. It was great! Very fresh seafood and reasonable prices. The hush puppies were great. The only complaint out of the whole group was that some didn't love the clam chowder... But they were expecting New England style and it wasn't. And my husband didn't love his steak (but who orders steak at a seafood place anyways?). All of the appetizers that we tried were great (the hot crab dip was amazing!) and my fried shrimp were awesome. The chocolate and coconut pies were fabulous too. Great local old style seafood restaurant located right on the water. I watched shrimp boats come and go while we waited for our food. Prices were reasonable and the seafood tasted very fresh. They also feature homemade lemon, chocolate and coconut meringue pies that taste as good as the desserts at a family reunion! read more

OK. We're from South Louisiana, so we're no strangers to good seafood. Today was our third visit to the Riverview Cafe and we'll be having a meal there every time we get to North Carolina. Real good down home food and everything unpretentious. Had oysters on half shell and crab soup. Delicious, and made even more enjoyable by the real friendliness of the staff. If you are looking for coastal NC seafood near Jacksonville, it doesn't get better than this. I have coming here since I was a kid. When Hurricane Florence came through I didn't think they would reopen, but when they did it was even better than ever. I love that they have expanded the menu with more modern options but have kept the calabash style fried seafood. My wife and I love the Bang Bang shrimp, the Mahi is great and the fried okra are just like my grandmother made. Be sure to check the white board before ordering! Great beer options too! read more

Actually visited the RC based on inside information from an employee at our Inn. Decided on local knowledge versus Yelp. Lol Definitely use your GPS because it is off the beaten path, but well worth it once you get there. Upon arrival, I was skeptical based on its dated appearence. (both inside and out) But we were quickly overwhelmed by Eastern North Carolina friendliness. Talked to 3 ladies on their Waitstaff, and they were all Sweethearts. Our Waitress, Noel, (1 of the above mentioned Sweethearts), took our drink orders, H2o with lemon, (duh) explained their menu including their platter options, and took our order. Appetizer-Bang Bang shrimp-4 star. Good appetizer with a lil kick. Entree-Grilled Mahi Mahi-5 star. Grilled perfectly and tasted delicious. Two sides-Fresh peach bites, and applesauce-3 star. Average fruit offering and would have liked if they had been chilled. Prior to eating, we snuck outside behind the RC, to check out their great view of the New River. Beautiful, especially at Sunset. Fantastic seafood. So fresh. Not greasy. We had the fried flounder and fried shrimp. Both were melt in your mouth. The oysters in the oyster stew were tender. And my husband who dislikes hush puppies thought these were wonderful. Prices were more than reasonable. Portions so large I will need to return to try the yummy fresh pies. We arrived at the Riverview Cafe on a Thursday evening about 7:30. We were seated in the back dining room overlooking the mouth of the New River. We ordered a seafood platter to share: fried shrimp, scallops, oysters, softshell crab, and flounder. The platter arrived minus oysters. They were out of them. Everything was very good, except the fish filet was definitely not flounder - maybe perch or mullet - but not flounder. The wait staff was friendly. We'll go to Riverview again the next time we visit Topsail Island. read more

Excellent fried catfish. Horrible coleslaw...the worst I've ever had and I love coleslaw. Fries are just like regular frozen fries.

Slow service. No real butter for the baked potato, just something labeled "whipped spread." The "key lime pie,"served topped with meringue, was most certainly not. Those who rave about it have never eaten real key lime pie. If you must, come very early, even off-season, to get a table with a view, as locals like it. Service was less than stellar. There are few eating choices in Sneads Ferry, & local food tastes run to bland fried grease. I've lived in coastal NC a quarter century & write from local knowledge. read more
