I found Village Pilates on ClassPass and booked the "beginner mat" class the night before. Getting there- There is meter parking right in front of the studio and you ring the doorbell for an instructor to let you in. As a first timer, they asked me to fill out a waiver upon walking inside. They ask for some generic information like birthdate and home address, but they also have a space where you can notify them of any injuries or health needs that should be known before taking the class. When I wrote that I had scoliosis, Len checked in with me and said I should let him know if I feel any pain during class so that he can provide me a modification. The experience- I was pleasantly surprised by my ability to follow the instructors sequence and pacing. "Len" was the instructor for the beginner mat class. He was super patient and helpful in correcting any errors in my form in a kind and respectful way. Overall a great experience and I can't wait to go back!

The vibe is very friendly and supportive but rigorous. Everyone encourages each other. By rigorous i mean the instructors help you do the move correctly so you benefit from it - whether mat class, reformer, or other apparatus - doing it right makes you stronger, more flexible and minimizes the chance of injury. Modifications are always there for people who don't can't do an exercise the "standard" way for a range of reasons. MBS is very beginner friendly but great for advanced people too. Some advanced classes will really kick your butt if you want/need that.

This pilates studio focuses on Stott Pilates, which I'm told is a more contemporary approach to pilates, and takes more pressure off your spine. I came here today for my first session, and boy oh boy, was I in for a surprise. I was put on a stott pilates machine, and this was a work out that I've never experienced before! I ache (in a good way!) all over! My instructor focused on demonstrating me the proper way of performing the exercises as well as focusing on my breathing. I have already made a commitment to come back and try this out on a weekly basis. Feel the burn baby!
