We are used to KOAs often being in noisy spots but this one might take the cake (besides the one…read morethat was literally next to an active train track). I5 is the constant source of very loud traffic noise, and I think being on the river might amplify it. That said, we were tent camping. Had a designated gravel spot to place the tent. The gravel was all in our sandals and our feet were very dusty after the tent was set up. Not ideal. But there was electricity to charge our vehicle overnight. I might say that was a nice perk but this place isn't cheap compared to other KOAs we've been to. If you can swing it, I recommend the Mount Shasta KOA before this one. (Update: since the I-5 traffic was constant it wasn't a real issue sleeping. There was a train nearby which also wasn't an issue since traffic was so loud you couldn't hear anything.) (2nd update: took the tent down and dog poop in the sand underneath. We got in at dusk so wasn't able to see much last night. At closer look this morning, the tent sites are clearly not given any attention. Lots of trash, cigarette buttes, poop even though there is a trash can 30 feet away. Boo to the trashy campers but also to the management for not caring about tent sites. This place looks fairly new but at the ridiculously steep price of $65/night for a gravel tent site (and there's grass at the end of tent row that we're not allowed to use), this is completely unacceptable. I reduced my 3 star rating to 2 stars. Since the store doesn't open until 9, I'm also guessing they don't offer coffee or hot water. The woman on the phone yesterday helping with our reservation while we were driving also seemed like she just wanted to get off the phone. For tent camping, choose Mount Shasta KOA 1.5 north.)

I've traveled through here on multiple occasions and it has improved exponentially over the years, in large part due to the staff. Recently, on a trip south I had to stop in to get some shut eye and had all my pets with me. Two cats and a dog. The heat was pretty intense so I arrived late and cracked the window for my cats while I slept. One cat, escaped the vehicle in the night and was missing for a month and a half. The hosts were incredible... I was able to post fliers, they kept in contact with me and my pet tracker, and eventually she reappeared and we were reunited. The hosts went above and beyond to help me during this time, and I am so grateful they were receptive to this situation. As for the campground, the only negative things I do have to say would be other campers. It can be loud at times, but that is no fault of the hosts and the site itself. The staff keeps it clean, and the grounds are beautiful. The wildlife here is amazing, the trails are well maintained, and anyone from boat enthusiasts to bird watchers would enjoy the scenery. I will definitely be camping here again. (Most likely next time I wont bring my cats. If I can help it)

Been on a camping journey and camped at multiple places and have to say this campground was the…read morecleanest and most welcoming of all the places I have been. Upon arrival, the camp host comes over and greets you personally with a smile and meets you with that same smile every time you cross paths. You are given the code to the restroom both when registering and from the camp host. Watching the camp hosts they both go far beyond their volunteer job position as camp hosts. They were doing landscaping work throughout the day. Seems like bathroom hand-soap is no longer part of the park fee, but they have a container of soap on the counter. As for the bugs, that's just nature at its finest! Feel like a where everyone knows your name kind of place because their friendliness seems to inspire some of the other campers to do the same. Being a solo camper, it was nice to not feel invisible! I would give them a vote to be named best volunteers of the state. They both obviously take pride in their volunteer work! Thank you!!!

This terrific area of BLM land has quickly become a favorite of mine…read more It's filled with hiking trails among beautiful oak trees, fields of wildflowers in spring, and is situated along the Sacramento River. The Paynes Creek Wetlands are also in this area, which brings a variety of migratory birds. The trails are also dog-friendly and mixed use - I've seen both equestrians and mountainbikers - but very lightly trafficked. Signage is light so I recommend having a map handy. I come here in particular for backpacking. The Yana Trail to Massacre Flat is an enjoyable seasonal hike, and the ability to camp overlooking the river is just plain awesome.

Despite the jet skis delivery and pick up to/from the lake being 30 minutes late each way, my…read morefamily had a blast. Why the -2 stars? My family and I have been renting jet skis around the globe for years, and not once did anyone perform a post-use inspection. I have no problem with them performing a post-use inspection, but if you are going to do that, you need to also do a pre-use inspection in front of us. We were on the lake, away from debris and the shore, yet she said the jet ski sucked up something and was damaged. We were charged an additional fee for parts and labor for repairs. The thing is, if you didn't perform a pre-use inspection in front of the customer, how do we know this isn't previous damage? Do they do this to all unsuspecting customers? Who knows. Lesson learned for next time.
