My dog could not walk on it and it kept getting dragged into RV on shoes and socks. - Pro- Bathroom was close without being next door to this site. - Sunnier spot.

Two nights in a tent site this month…read more Pros: Fantastic service and communication by the camp host, both before and during our two night stay. Bathrooms were very clean, well lit, and fully functional. Firewood and other necessities were delivered right to our site upon arrival - so awesome! The patch of old growth we camped in was long-ago cut large trees which had sprouted a dozen or so normal trees out of them. The woods were DARK due to dense canopies and staved off the rain when it fell, which we loved. Most importantly, this CG doesn't fill up six months ahead of arrival date so you can actually book them like a normal campground used to be (I'm glaring at YOU, California State Parks). Cons: Loud road noise due to proximity to 101 and surface roads. In fact, several of the sites abut the neighboring private property, allowing you to see through an old privacy fence directly into their back yard. Luckily our host let us swap spots when we realized this. Several tent campsites lacked picnic tables, which made me concerned if they'd have been full (they definitely weren't this May weekend). The fire rings were sufficient but also just old wheels. Showers in bathroom were in dire need of new fixtures (hard water made them look quite...eek...just glad I wasn't wearing my glasses while I showered). We recognized this area is a difficult one to have high expectations in due to remoteness and gave an extra star for the supremely kind and helpful woman who hosted us. We may not be back up here again, but if we are I hope to run into her.

As for events, You name the event, I've probably been to it. Auto racing, the circus, I saw the lippizaner stallions here the Sunday flea market. The annual Redwood Acres Fair, (it's a small fair that runs for about a week, but it's always fun.). And one of the funniest shows I ever saw here, was called "extreme midget wrestling." I recently attended one of their summertime monthly events, called "acres of eats." a good sized selection of food trucks/trailers, entertainment, activities for the kids, etc. It was a wide selection of food. I had. A stew and an empanada from a Colombian food trailer. It was absolutely delicious, and the price was very reasonable. If you have a chance to go to this event, or anything else else at Redwood acres, it's worth it. I hope Redwood acres lasts for a long time coming. It's a wonderful asset to Eureka.

Redwood Acres has a series of buildings which accommodates to various needs…read more I have been able to attend the Humboldt Roller Derby, Healthy Humboldt aka Festejando Nuestra Salud (both as a participant and a volunteer, assisting a Doctor give shots to low income families), volunteered with Elders Inner Tribal Dinner (where yummy Wiyot Tacos are sold) & have came here on a field trip with a school to look at heavy machinery (bulldozers etc.) laid out inside where cars usually park while people are having wood cutting competitions and animal demonstrations are being held next door to the brewery. Additionally, the event (forgot the name) allowed the students to go on a hay ride and sit inside of a parked helicopter where race cars /monster trucks arena is usually held. Overall, it is a nice place to experience large events to small events like the county covid testing area.

I absolutely love and adore every stay we spend here. It feels like home. Nearby stores and restaurants too, so it's just perfect in every way. Our last stay Cheyanne was a doll to us, and the boys too. Don't hesitate to stay here- there's not a bad camp site on the property.

Bathrooms were a slight uphill walk from the site with running water, so so on cleanliness. Potable water were by each site maybe two sites per faucet. 138 is furthest from the entrance about 0.7 miles from the camp site entrance. $10 for wood bundle which you buy by the campsite entrance. A lovely camping weekend. Pretty private because the redwood trees block the view between sites and we were lucky that the neighboring sites were empty most of the weekend.

We arrived on the Friday before the start of Memorial Day Weekend, as there are no reservations, at least at this time of the year. The camp already had half a dozen campsites, filled, along the river, but we found a nice one. The restroom wasn't far and it had sinks and flush toilets. There were a couple of outside, cold-water showers, probably useful for rinsing off sand from the beach. The other restroom had indoor, coin-op, showers, which were "out of order". Our campsite had a picnic table, a fire-ring, and a water-faucet. It was a nice, shady, location. The other campers were mostly families and they all seemed friendly. Our closest neighbors loaned us their air-mattress inflator and invited us over for some BBQ! Petrolia is Humboldt's hidden gem, and you will not regret checking it out, the drive through the hills and along the coast, is phenomenal! A.W. Way Campground is family-friendly, with a circular drive that the kids can ride their bikes on, using up that last bit of energy, before it gets dark! We brought roller blades, but the road seemed a little too rough, however, it's perfect for bikes. We will return!

A special shoutout to the owner, Matt -- he's such a cool, friendly guy and made us feel like we were staying with a friend rather than at a typical inn. His hospitality really made the difference. An owner who clearly doesn't care - mold everywhere, no daily room servicing, trash abounds…read more Despite the lovely historic architecture of Ferndale and this building, this is a hotel I cannot recommend until ownership realises hospitality is about more than having a vintage building. From old lumpy pillows and 20-30 year old blankets and bedspreads, to NO daily room servicing, to black mold in the unhygenic common area, to uncleaned ashtrays entrance doors, mold on the orange juice dispenser at breakfast (which is pathetic)... the list goes on. When this feedback was given to the front desk person, the comment was basically - 'Yes, I'll tell the owner this stuff matters - they know but don't care'. To be specific: Bedrooms: while the sheets are likely less than 5 years old, the rest of the bedding is well over 20 years old, and the decor / furnishings are not 'charming', they are just old and run down. Broken handles on drawers, chipped paint everywhere, an 18 inch TV from 20 years ago, no in-room coffee/water, no daily trash emptying or room service. Sleep quality: poor - lumpy pillows, windows that only open a bit, and warm rooms, thin walls so you can hear everyone, bad plumbing so water hammer wakes the building when anyone showers, and not enough hot water to go around all rooms - so they ask you to be quick in the shower! Common Space: As there's no in-room amenities they have a common space with a residential fridge, a residential style freezer box, and a Keurig single pod coffee maker. There is no filter or bottled drinking water. The freezer is rife with black mold all around the rim / seal and the ice is just in a rubber dish bin from the kitchen, with a metal scoop - it's the most unsanitary thing ever and will get people sick. The fact that the owners don't acquire a proper ice making machine just screams cheap and lazy. Dirty dishes pile up all day in this space in another bin (the same style used for the ice). The fridge is for anyone to store something that needs refridgeration in - again unsanitary and unsafe - everything in there could be tampered with. Hotel general observations: The disgusting dirty cigarette butt filled trays outside each entrance door are never cleaned - so that's what greets you on arrival! The breakfast is very poor - a few 'protein yoghurts', dry cereal, banana etc... but with black mold present on the tops of the juice dispensers, who wants to touch any of it without the real prospect of getting sick. Carpets throughout are likely 40-50 years old and look like they've never been cleaned. It's just a dirty, dusty, uncleaned space. We also ate at the onsite pub - the staff at least seemed to care, despite not being trained on basics (i.e. wipe down table first before seating us there, deliver appetizers first, check on us and refill empty water bottle) and the food was very mediocre. Overall, such a shame as it has so much potential.
