Had to knock off a star because our room was so cold the first night: 64 degrees. Another couple complained about the low temp while we were at the front desk. The second night we were plenty warm enough, and they did give us another blanket on request. We did not try the restaurant, but definitely will on our next trip. I was in the bar briefly (we didn't have a corkscrew) and the staff ladies there were most accommodating. The hotel is 100 years old this year, and running some promotions to celebrate. Complimentary sherry in the room lasted both nights. Room deco was very nice. This hotel has personality, in the rooms, the hallways, and all areas inside and out. Fascinating antiques throughout. Would make a lovely place for a wedding and reception!!

The room was one of their bigger rooms. The only thing missing was information at check in about scones and tea from 3-4 pm. which would have been nice to know. Their side flower garden was super cute, and the oaks in the back are majestic. Make sure to look for a room with a fridge and tv if that's important to you- this room has it! but the historic ones don't always have those. Menus in the rooms of some of their basic fare would have been nice to peruse at one's leisure.

My grandfather and I booked a room here with double beds for a single night on a road trip up the coast a few days ago. I woke up at 3am to the feeling of someone watching me. I turned my phone light on and looked around and no one was there. As I laid back down I felt the space beside my bed depress like someone was getting onto the bed. Then, it was like someone wrapped their arms around my body. I felt like I couldn't breath or move. When I finally mustered enough oxygen in my lungs, I leaped out of the bed with all I had in me and turned on the light. Again, nothing was there. Room #23. My grandfather and I drove the whole length of the Avenue of the Giants looking for a decent spot to say for the night - with the idea of exploring the Redwoods the next day. We decided the Humbolt was our best option after seeing that many of the residents of the town were living in the hotel rooms of the other motels in the area. There seems to be a large homeless population here. Also many forestry service trucks were parked in the lot, which seemed to indicate something positive if they were staying there. However we were so wrong about that. The other issues with the room were that it REEKED of cigarette smoke. We've been back on the road for 3 days and our clothes still have a twinge of that smell - even the clean items in our suit cases. The shower had no official nozzle, it's like one you'd see at Venice Beach and there was either cigarette ash or mold on the shower curtain. My grandfather also found pubic hair in the tub matt. The overall cleanliness of this place was insanely gross. The other patrons of the hotel were also loud, kept their hotel doors open and were pretty intimidating.

The Tides Inn of Shelter Cove - I took this 11 steps from my room. It's unbelievable!

Let's be clear: the number of stars here isn't indicative of a four-star hotel. But overall it didn't disappoint. GREAT view and the sound of the waves crashing outside were high on my amenity list. The unit itself is pretty bare bones. Cheap but comfortable furniture. Kitchen has pretty much everything you'd need to cook. Bed is okay, maybe a little hard. Really hot showers, which was nice. Managers are super nice and 100% responsive to any needs. We got one night free bc of their spring special, which bumped it up a star for us. Would I recommend it? Yes. Would I HEARTILY recommend it? Probably not. But I have no complaints.

The rooms are comfortable and have everything you need. Complete with coffee maker refrigerator and super comfy bed. There is a television but I never turned it on because the view was intoxicating and I couldn't take my eyes off of it. I was here right around solstice and so the day was very long and by the time it was too dark to enjoy the view it was bedtime. The hotel managers were friendly and kind and helpful. This place is walking distance from Gyppo the local favorite brewery. And also right on the lower Pacific Road which runs along the ocean. Close to Mal Combs Park. I absolutely recommend this place to anyone wanting the experience of sleeping right next to the ocean. You could hear the surf and waves all night long. It lulled me to sleep.

Property is an old 1940's "Motor Court", nestled along the Avenue of the Giants, which is actually "Old Highway 101." You're not getting the Ritz Carlton, here, but that's the charm of the place. The Room was spotless, and came with a TV with Dish Network, microwave, and fridge. The A/C worked fantastic. The bed was VERY comfortable, and the bathroom was small, but very clean. I had a problem with the Wi Fi, but I sent a message to Dottie, and she had the problem fixed within a half hour. That's the sign of a great host that when something *does* go wrong, they take care of it right away. I would happily stay here again in a heartbeat!!!

I had a very nice stay, and it was a memorable experience! We stayed in room 6 and 7. My friend let me pick the room and I chose the outer one with more light. Both rooms look like there were some updates done not too long ago. Each room has a refrigerator, coffee machine, TV, AC, small table, pretty much all the essentials for a comfortable night stay. Oh and the coffee pods are Newman's organic coffee! It was my first time to see any hotels/motels provide organic coffee. There's a porch that connects the two room. In the evening, a very friendly cat came over for a visit. That was a total bonus! I only took a star off 5 stars because my friend said he didn't have hot water. It could have been just him. And the doors in between the rooms are indeed a bit thin and light. The noise woke me and kept me up for a little while. But I'm a light sleeper, to be fair. If there's a 4.5 star, that would have been what I would have given. In the evening, we sat on the porch and enjoy the coolness of the forest air. I don't know when was the last time I was able to do that (sitting on a porch.) It was a refreshing change of pace for a city dweller like me. And it was a pretty good value too, I think. In fact, just last night, my sister came to the Bay Area for an overnight visit, before heading to her next destination. I booked a room for her and her two children near SFO. I paid 30% more for a very very plain, uninteresting room, at one of the chain hotels (it was Travelodge.) Not exactly an apple-to-apple, but it did remind me to go ahead and post this review. Madrona Motor Court was a thumbs-up for me.

Our group actually filled up all the rooms, which made it feel even more enjoyable. The hospitality is top notch - especially Katie, who went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable in every way! My husband and I stayed in their Rose Room and it was the perfect place to unwind after a full day of festivities. The oceanfront balcony connects to the next room (where my parents stayed hahaha) and we loved being able to stargaze at night and watch the sunrise in the mornings. One of the highlights - freshly baked scones and coffee delivered to our door each morning. I've never had a proper scone until this weekend.... they were perfectly crispy on the outside, flavorful and not too dense. Breakfast in the parlor was another treat - always beautifully prepared, delicious, and such a lovely way to start each day with family. We also appreciated how they had an EV charger, which saved us multiple trips into the next town (20-30 minutes away). We even went for a morning run along the coast and the views at sunrise were unbeatable. + the in-house dry sauna was SUCH a treat. Overall, this was such a special stay. We truly felt like we were on vacation ourselves and can't wait to come back someday soon!

I loved that in the morning they will bring a pot of coffee and a selection of pastries to enjoy in bed, or on the balcony. It is truly something to see, if only for a quick drink. The food is fantastic! I was also lucky enough to get married in Westport. We used the hotel to house my family. They were so accommodating. We had the rehearsal dinner at the Hotel as well. They were an absolutely pleasure to work with. They went out of their way to ensure the flowers, menu, and overall feel would match the wedding. There was not a single detail overlooked. I cannot say enough great things about this place.
