this quaint little cottage resort is hidden in the small town of Miranda. placed in Humboldt county and having Avenue of the giants flow directly through it, it's a town you don't want to miss. I've stayed here 3 times now over the past few years and every time I find myself not wanting to leave at the end of my stay. everything in this resort and the surrounding small town is so relaxed and a nice break from city life. the staff are courteous, the grounds are well kept, and there are so many hikes and out outdoorsy things to keep you occupied. they have a pool and a fire pit and even some resident kitties that will show up from time to time. the best time to go is honestly at the very end of summer since it's cooling down and the weather is still clear enough for sightseeing. if you're into star gazing also, this town quiets down enough at night and doesn't give off nearly enough light to block your view. the Astro photography here is awe inspiring if you manage to snap a pic or two. you can even use a normal cell phone to get the photo you want! i hope you enjoy your stay as much as i do~ read more

This place was awful and INHOSPITABLE!!! This place is directly out of the late 60's or early 70's and I doubt a single dollar has been spent to bring it up to date. Beyond that, everywhere I looked in this room there were rules hung up in various places with the fine amount that would be charged if the rules weren't followed. "Don't touch the heater" or a $500 fine. Wash the dishes or A $75 fine will be charged, do move any furniture or a $75 fine...... this stay was terrible, the room was terrible and the BS rules and made up fines were terrible! Never again for us, that's for sure!!!!! read more

First the very good: You cannot beat the location. Heart of the redwoods and only 1/2 a mile away from the Stephens Grove Loop Trail. The other trails are just up the road. It's within walking distance to a convenience store/gas station, a coffee shed, and a family restaurant and a fancier diner. The very cute older 'grandma' cottages are quiet with not much noise from the main road. We rented cottage #6 for 4 days which is at the back of the resort and has a back deck overlooking the forest. The bed was very comfortable, although the antique chairs were more for looks. We were worried that the living room couch wouldn't hold us as it creaked and bowed. For comfort we sat on pillows. The bad you have to accept with older cottages is there is very few free plug outlets. We had to stagger times to keep all those 'essential' modern devices charged. Also, the water pressure is lousy. If you take a shower you can forget about doing dishes in the sink. Getting the correct shower temperature takes a while as it goes from scalding to ice after 30 seconds of adjusting. The TV has a number of local stations as well as several streaming networks (with your sign on) They do have two machines for laundry at $3.00 a load at the very far end of the resort. Although I don't recommend using them as the washer smelled of mold and the dryer needed cleaning. Now the very bad: We found the condition of the kitchen and bathroom very dirty to the point of us having to clean up when we checked in. There are multiple signs saying you are responsible for dishes as there is no dishwasher. I guess that means we were at the mercy of the last person who was here, and their idea of clean was lacking. That didn't explain why the floor needed mopping so badly. Also, there were multiple mold spots in the shower area. For what is being charged I thought there would be a minimum level of clean. When we checked in the smell of bug spray was very strong. I would have thought they would have aired out the cabin after spraying. read more

This was a great little trip! We went midweek in winter (late January) and stayed in Cabin 6. It was lovely. We spoke with the owner, G, on the phone who was very accommodating. The cabin was clean and the kitchen was well appointed. It even had an air fryer. The beds were comfortable and the fireplace/heaters worked well to keep it cozy. The deck outside was great to feel immersed in the forest while enjoying a bowl of cereal. We went for several hikes and bike rides through the Avenue of the Giants. It was perfect!!! There's a hike you can do right from the property which is beautiful. There are a few spots to eat or get groceries across the street - very convenient. The two main restaurants were both closed on Weds evening, but we were able to get a hot dinner from the Miranda Market (fried chicken, potato wedges, really delicious biscuit) plus some fresh asparagus which we cooked. There is an EV charger there too (at the Market across the street). All the staff we met were friendly. They were repainting the area near the fire pit and making other investments in the property (our back deck was new this year, I believe). read more

As a teacher, I was always known as a fairly generous grader. I'm afraid Miranda Gardens does not deserve anything more than three stars or,a C. It looks cute from the outside, but inside it's tattered and old and unkept as are the grounds. There is little to no Wi-Fi or Internet so if you want to keep in touch with the outside world, you might consider going somewhere else. And, if you leave any dirty dishes, there is a sign that says they will charge you $75. It's that sort of small mentality that makes this place mediocre at best. read more

The only positive is the location. The grounds were unkept and we were expecting to walk through a garden. Gazebo area was not enjoyable to sit in the debris was all over. Truly needs a outside company to take care of the property. We had cottage #2 the door has panes of glass that have pieces of non-glare plastic on it, however the morning and evening light is brutal to sleep or relax. I asked the manager if they had a curtain or shade, they can put up, she replied no, but I could use a towel or sheet from the room. With so many signs for fines in the room I asked how I was supposed to do that? nail, tape? no not allowed just put it in the door and close it. The lobby is never open and is unmanned. There is a bell it says ring for help during business hours, no hours posted and bell does not work. Signes all over the room posted about fines for everything, yet this motel fails to deliver even the simplest amenity. The shower is extremely small. For the price of this hotel, it lacks upkeep, no internet or Wi-Fi. I love a unique old cottage motel this was not. read more

While on a road trip through California, we were mesmerized by the majestic scenery of the redwood forest. So we decided to stay in the area overnight. Looking online, I found the Miranda Garden's Resort, read the reviews, and then we knew we had to stay here. After we checked in, we drove through an area with flowers and greenery surrounding our vehicle. And with a smooth brick road. When we arrived at our cabin we were amazed. It was very spacious. It had two stories with one bedroom on each floor, a full-size kitchen, a living room with an electric fireplace and flat screen TV. The vintage decor contributed to the ambience. In the morning I enjoyed a cup of coffee, while sitting on the deck looking at the scenery. read more

Charming cabins in the redwoods along highway 101 driving through Avenue of the Giants. Stayed overnight in April during a spring break roadtrip. Room was incredibly spacious, with decor that fits with what we thought a charming cabin in the woods would look like. The fridge and microwave are even retro in look but very modern working. The cabin and grounds are clearly well cared for. The cabin we stayed in had an attached deck patio overlooking the redwood forest with an additional patio that we used to relax during happy hour sipping our traveling old fashioneds before cooking dinner on our camp stove (skillet cooked filet Mignon with potatoes, carrots, cucumber). Bathroom is incredibly spacious with a whirlpool jacuzzi tub/shower that's very roomy. Staying in enough motels, hotels, cabins and you're learn to appreciate a shower that has room to stretch even though I'm not a large guy. The grounds give room to roam, with a basketball court that we used after dinner, a young children jungle gym, horseshoes and a hiking trail just down the street. a tip given to us by the staff who are friendly and welcoming. There's also a pool (owner told us it's being converted to a heated pool), a grill, and a group of fire pits that would be great places for family and friends to hangout. All in all, the exact spot we wanted to stay when traveling through the redwoods on our journey north to the Oregon coast. read more

we stayed here in mid April which is probably one of the better times to do so . No crowds anywhere although the pool isn't opened until May 1 or so . Miranda is the perfect spot to explore the Avenue . Stephens Grove is quite nice and very close . good food served at restaurants across the street . good coffee stand too . the room was nice and quaint but fully modernized .the grounds of the motel are beautiful . the staff was helpful . highly recommended! read more

We came here for a wedding and were so busy we didn't spend much time in the room. If you have time to stay and visit the local river and state parks, you can't go wrong making this your home base. The cabins are dated, but clean and well appointed. We stayed in cabin 12, which had two rooms joined by a bathroom. Each room has its own entry door. One room had no closet or place to hang clothes, but it did have an electric fireplace and television. Our room had a giant armoire but no hangers, so make sure you pack some. We Lso had a mini fridge and TV. No AC, that I could find but both rooms had a ceiling fan. The pool was nice, clean, deep and not over chlorinated. Sue in the office was a gem. She let us know she had a needle and thread so if we needed anything to come see her. read more

Cabins are incredibly clean. Even the blanket we used out of the closet smelled freshly washed. Pool was on the cooler side but that didn't stop my kiddos from enjoying it. We enjoyed the fire pit every night, the sweet woman in the lobby supplied us with fire starters and some paper. My kiddos enjoyed ping pong and the playground. The environment is very calming and quiet. We enjoyed cabin number 7, was perfect for my family of 6. The coffee across the street is super yum as well and convenient. read more

Cabin was clean but dated and dark. Front desk people were very responsive and helpful. Two stars off for not informing me that a rollaway costs $35. Super well-located place just past the southern entrance to the Avenue of the Giants. My cottage (4A) was an adorable 1-BR apartment home that was neat and clean. Full kitchen and bath made for a comfortable and useful place to stay. While family camped up the Avenue in the park, I was comfortable and dry in my cottage home. (It rained during my stay.) I didn't use the pool, but it looked lovely. Loved the organic coffee, gas station, and friendly grocery store directly across the street. Forgot they were all there when I sat out on my back balcony facing the trees! A 95 year-old family member stayed in cottage #14. A smaller version of #4A that was more like a cute studio. Both our cottages had large electric fire place-heaters. I tested mine the second night; worked great. One last thing, the lady who checked me in was friendly as can be. I believe her name was Sue. The lobby-reception has lots of keepsakes for purchase as well as info about local things to see and do. I made sure to pick up a coffee mug at check out complete with contact info. Clean, well maintained, comfortable, and cozy, in a great location near the south end of the Avenue of the Giants. The only negative is that we made a reservation in August 2023 for our stay in April 2024 and in Feb 2024 we got an email with a rate increase of about 50%. read more

The wife booked a couple of nights stay at the Miranda Gardens Resort while we were up in Northern Ca. taking our son to experience The Avenue of the Giants. We were pleasantly pleased and enjoyed our stay. The staff was friendly and helpful. Our cottage was clean, spacious, and had everything we would need to have a comfortable stay. Each cottage had its own patio area as well as parking. There was construction taking place close by, but the sound was kept to a minimum and did not bother us. For the most part, it was quiet and relaxing. Across the street there was a coffee shop, a restaurant, and a gas station with small store. Basically, everything we would need was within walking distance. I recommend taking a look at Miranda Gardens Resorts if you are planning on staying in the area. It is also fairly close to The Avenue of the Giants, and all the tourist stops/experiences. read more

I froze to death last night. Had to sleep in my pajamas with my jacket. The bedrooms have no heat - nice in the summer but not so good when it is 40 degree. Only one thin blanket. No hairdryer. The period piece couch was too low to use!! It sat 6 inches, at the most, from the floor. Many of the outlets will not hold a plug. The setting is beautiful which explains the 1*. I was there last year and did not have these experiences. I will not return next year!! read more

The cabin is cute and decorated with antiques and has a gorgeous deck to enjoy the forest, We walked across the street for dinner and had a lovely stay. Beautiful location and very convenient when traveling with kids. However while I was expecting rustic in the middle of nowhere, I was still expecting clean and smoke free. OUR CABAIN SMELLED OF MARIJUANA ! And we were traveling with myself being pregnant and two kids under the ages of 5. Complained to front desk, the response was to inspect our room and claim that it did not have a pot smell. Why would we claim something like that if it wasn't true? Had to keep all the windows open during the day while we were out and stored our lugged in the car. If we did not have a 5 hour drive with small kids, would've turned around and drove home. Beds are also very uncomfortable, thought it might be more comfortable then camping being pregnant, but should've done camping. read more

We stayed here last summer on our way to Portland. We loved it! We stayed in cabin 7. The pool was awesome, the setting was nice and serene and our cabin was so cute and comfortable. Family of four and two dogs. We highly recommend staying here as opposed to anywhere else in the area. Local restaurants and stores were great. We are returning this summer. Can't wait! read more

After drilling the functions of immunoglobulins along with Greek and Latin roots for months until words like encephalomyelitis made sense (encephalo-: brain, myel-: spinal cord, -itis: inflammation) , a few days at Miranda Gardens was just what I needed. The resort is serene and the forest is magical. We stayed 5 days. In winter. We were the only ones there the majority of the time. And it was glorious. Cottage 5 is the best in the house -- it's the only one that allows pets and has both a kitchen and fireplace. It has a grill and a fairly large patio that backs up right over the forest. Perfect for sitting and staring. The left side of the kitchen sink had a detached pipe that would gush water all over the cabinet, but I figured out to wash the dishes under a trickle of water in the right sink. The smoke detector went off 5 minutes after I turned on the oven, so we opened the windows when cooking so as not to offend its delicate nature. And we GRILLED. Outside. Away from the kitchen quirks. Sausages, tri-tip, you name it. It would've been nice to know ahead of time that pets are not allowed to be left alone at any time, for any reason, no exceptions. Not even in carriers. But oh well. Countless games of Uno and a trash can full of wine bottles later, we left two well rested humans and two happy dogs. Even if they did throw up all over the backseat on the drive home. There is a private driveway to each cottage. We stayed in cottage 1. It was very well maintained and the electric fireplace was a nice feature. We had an excellent time at the Miranda Resorts. The resort is located in the heart of Avenue of the Giants. The resort has its own set of giant trees which surround the cabins. We stayed in cabin 2 which was decorated with an old historic feel. The room was amazingly clean with comfortable bedding and mattress. We ate dinner across the street. There is also a nicely stocked market just a couple of minutes walk from the resort. I would certainly recommend staying. read more
