I enjoyed my MONA trip a lot but unfortunately The Source disappointed a bit. The restaurant was super dead and empty. I ordered oysters, truffle cheese toastie, cauliflower, and boats in the source. The oysters were delicious as expected and my favorite dish was definitely the toastie!! Insane cheese pull on that one and so flavorful! The cauliflower was just okay and I actually did not like the boats in the source dish much at all. Overall I felt a little let down with the meal but the service was amazing and I had a very kind and helpful server. I'd consider trying out FARO the higher end fine dining restaurant inside MONA instead of The Source if I am able to visit again!

Ferry boat to the museum and into a fancy lunch? Sign me up. It was everything I imagined and more. One of the handful of memorable meals during our trip. Beautiful interior, floor to ceiling windows, fantastic staff and local food. Yes wallaby tartare is on the menu, we ate it and recommend. Another local twist is the incorporation of individualized designs to the plates from local school children and the modern uniforms are designed in AUS and unisex. Beautiful, thoughtful meal and space. We loved it. Ate a leisurely lunch, then wandered downstairs to the ice cream cart and then walked it all off in the museum. A perfect afternoon.

The menu here consists of typical cafe fare along with a nice selection of baked goods (including cake) and coffee. I had just finished touring the MONA, but still had some time before my ferry ride back to Hobart. Thus, I decided to head over to the cafe to grab a bite. Not feeling terribly hungry, I opted for a slice of hummingbird cake ($7). After paying, I took a seat at one of the tables. I waited a good 10 minutes or so and my order wasn't ready yet. The cafe wasn't busy, so I headed up to the counter to check on it. I explained that I was in a rush as I needed to board the ferry soon. I got my slice of cake shortly after. I do wonder why they didn't just give me the cake at the counter since that was only thing I wanted. The hummingbird cake was pretty good. It has coconut shavings on top and the cake was fluffy. Satisfying enough to tie me over till dinner. While you may come here for the food, the views here are an extra bonus. From the cafe windows, there is a nice view of the Derwent River. There is even outside seating on the lawn if you would like to get a closer view. If you feel hungry while visiting the MONA or Moorilla Winery, the MONA Cafe is a decent option should you want something standard like a salad or just looking for coffee and a pastry. Otherwise, wait until you head back to Hobart to have a meal. Or if you really want to splurge, try The Source instead.

Mine arrived with a substantial char. Their menu is eclectic, and I took it upon myself to try a kale-based pizza. I'm not entirely sure what type of pre-cooking they did on that kale, but it totally worked. Kale on pizza and you wouldn't question it. I was a tad disappointed that it was a white pizza without sauce (hard to tell from the menu since sauce wasn't listed on any of them), and I could have gone for more choices. That being said, it was one of the better pizzas I've had in Australia, and if you are looking for somewhere to eat post-MONA, this is close. That being said, it seemed to be thriving instead on a vigorous takeout business from the surrounding community rather than tourists like myself. Local indeed.

I personally prefer a slightly tougher base as I have a tendency to get take away and need it to hold up well on the trek home. Website has full menu and it was a low key nice atmosphere inside. Love it, wish I was a local.

Fish and Chips and a local beer were on tap for our meal, and it was all very good. We ordered and paid for our meal at the bar, and enjoyed our time at a high table by the window. We were here early afternoon, so things were relatively quiet, vs. an more boisterous and crowded evening pub atmosphere. There's 3 rooms (including the one with the bar) downstairs and an upstairs, with the local Hobart Brewing Company running this historical establishment. It looks like they have some work ahead of them in terms of upkeep of this elderly building, but the food, clientele, and atmosphere all fit together well.

Here's what we noticed: - It was a Monday night and we came in around 6:30 PM, and the place was already packed. We didn't have a reservation and the wait was going to be about 45 minutes or more, so luckily we were able to find a couple of open spots at a table in the bar area, where you order at the bar and the food is delivered to your table. It worked great! - There are a lot of great beers on tap, including several from Hobart Brewing Company. - Based on prior reviews, my wife and I ordered the Fish and Chips and the Seafood Chowder to split both dishes between us. The Fish and Chips were excellent, not overly breaded and the fish was perfectly cooked, very juicy. And, it came with a little salad. The Seafood Chowder was really good, including the bread that came with it. - The vibe inside is really fun, just a bit loud as you would expect a pub to be. Bottom line: We're glad we spent our first night at the Hope and Anchor Tavern.
